Hi everyone.

This is the vote of my proposed safeguarding policy. I've made some changes with your feedback. Hopefully it now explains clearer what should and should not be done.

Proposed Policy[]

  • If special rights holders become aware of a safeguarding issue, they must report it to the relevant trust and safety team(s). If this involves a Fandom user (even if not on the Fandom platform but still relating to the wiki community), that means reporting it to Fandom; if it involves another platform involved, report there too. If its not a Fandom user, report it just to the platform involved.
  • Do not do any detailed investigation yourself or share details with others unless directed by trust and safety. Leave this to the experts.
  • You can verify that an event occured (logs and screenshots), and isn't just a mere accusation.
  • You can collect information about the immediate situation in order to make your report
  • Do not go looking for further information, witnessess, etc.
  • If there is a need for immediate action to protect people, take it.
  • If a block is neccessary (eg - the harm is occuring now in the Nukapedia Discord), take it.
  • If it involves historic users, the need for immediate action is unlikely met
  • There is a middle ground that involves a judgement call. If the person isn't on right now action may be warranted or not based on the circumstances, and in other circumstances continuing to monitor a situation may be warranted. Take advice from the Trust and Safety team if neccesary.
  • If you are taking protective action, this should be time limited to allow for the trust and safety team to take action. 2 Business days (ie - not weekends) should be enough in most circumstances, but can be extended if you're informed of a delay in reviewing reports.
  • Make sure you've reported to trust and safety that you have taken protective action in the short term, and seek their advice on if it should be lifted
  • Only take the protective action you need to, and don't take action that isn't warranted (ie - activities purely on discord will probably not warrant a temp wiki block).
  • On making a report consider placing an appropriate the following in an appropriate rights holder channel
  • Eg - "A Safeguard report has beem made to Fandom involving (User)"
  • Include additional action "I have placed a temporary discord block on (x)"
  • Share in this channel the minimum possible details - ie don't share the evidence you have or the full details of the accusation unless absolutely neccessary (eg if some monitoring may be required).
  • If you have taken immediate action that a user might notice, share the least amount of information possible. Do not tell that user that a safeguarding report has been made. Do not use the word "safeguarding" in any publicly accessible log.
  • Possible reply if asked "We're aware you can't currently log in to discord. We're looking into it and will get back to you"
  • Safeguarding issues include, but isn't limited to the following actions (or credible threats to engage in the following actions):
  • threats to user safety
  • endangerment of minors
  • the release or threat of release of Personally Identifiable Information (as defined here).
  • If you’re in any way unsure if it’s a safeguarding issue or if it should be reported, report it to trust and safety and let them decide rather than discuss it with other users/special rights holders.
  • If an issue is determined not to be a safeguarding issue, standard Nukapedia rules can then be applied to the situation after recieving an all clear, or after the 2 business day period (if not extended) has cleared.
