Fortney was the supervisor at Grafton Steel in Appalachia, prior to 2102.
Background[]
Fortney was responsible for hiring Donna Mason to determine the repairs that the Grafton Steel mill required to keep its equipment running. He was dismissive of the concerns regarding worker safety at the mill, citing it as an additional reason for management to continue automating its workforce.[1] The workers saw him as playing a significant role in the continued automation and some of them planned to confront him during his smoke breaks to see what they could do about the robots held in the mill's administration building.[2]
When there was an attempted sabotage of the mill's blast furnace by the striking Grafton Steel employees, Fortney was given responsibility for the only set of keys to the area.[3]
