Downed, Dying, or Critically Injured is an intermediate condition state for players after having their Hit Points reduced to 0 in Fallout 76. From this condition, the player can either be revived by another player or die and respawn.

Characteristics[]

Upon losing all Hit Points, the player is put in the downed condition. While downed, the player can signal for help to players nearby. For the next 30 seconds, it is possible to be revived by another player at the cost of a Stimpak.

The player also has a chance to be revived by the Mysterious Savior or Power Armor Reboot, if equipped, or the Second Wind effect from a Scout's banner, if active.

The downed player is not immune to subsequent damage, however, and can be prematurely killed before the 30 seconds runs out.

Behind the scenes[]

In Bethesda's 2018 E3 presentation, a player is seen losing a limb in PVP, becoming downed, and being executed after several seconds. No player dismemberment function remains in the final game. Given that dismemberment would preclude the player from being revived, this functionality was likely removed because it would invariably create situations where players could only helplessly wait for death.

  • Similarly, the limbs of feral ghouls could be severed in Fallout 4 without killing the creature, but this functionality has been removed in Fallout 76, where their limbs are merely disabled for about two minutes.
