Steals from the Chosen One

Stealing[]

The steal mechanics are as follows:

  • The Den orphan children who stand at the doorways of Becky's Casino Bar, Tubby's, Flick's and The Hole will try to steal from The Chosen One as they walk by. The two Den orphan children outside Great Ananias do not steal.
  • If the Den orphan children successfully steal from the Chosen One, they will run to the nearest shopkeeper to fence it. That shopkeeper will now sell your items back to the Chosen One.
  • The Den orphan children steal from the Chosen One with a skill of 65%. They do not steal from companions.
  • The steal action is instantaneous and always occurs when you go past them, even if see steal animation after you're already safely past. You may not even see the steal animation if you fail a Perception check.

To avoid getting pickpocketed:

  • Enter combat, run past them, and then end combat.
  • Let the Den orphan children steal from the Chosen One but steal your items back from them. They won't run off to sell the item until the Chosen One moves away and won't do anything if they catch you stealing. You'll then be safe from those specific Den orphan children for 1โ€“5 minutes.
  • Sneak past them (only works sometimes)
  • Injure or murder the Den orphan children. See "The Den" chapter of The Nearly Ultimate Fallout 2 Guide for details.

Appearances[]

Den orphan children appear only in Fallout 2.

Behind the scenes[]

Cut content: It would have been possible to create an orphanage (possibly run by Mom), which would cause the Den orphan children to stop stealing.
