Colonel Autumn's uniform is the uniform of Augustus Autumn in Fallout 3.

Background[]

Main article: Enclave uniform

Based on the pre-War LAS-009 general's overcoat,[1][2] the Colonel uniform has a single-breasted coat worn over a base black uniform with a high collar and boasts large pockets on the thighs, two smaller pockets under the lapels, and the front can be closed with six buttons. A utility belt with two large metal clasps, a storage pouch and a pistol holster completes the design.[Non-game 1][3]

Characteristics[]

When worn, it provides 10 to Damage Resistance, 20 to Radiation Resistance and gives the wearer an additional 100 Hit Points. The statistics were revised in Broken Steel, removing radiation resistance and increasing hit points gained from the uniform.

It is the only Enclave uniform that is unique in Fallout 3, and served as basis for General Chase's overcoat in Operation: Anchorage (unplayable) and Mothership Zeta (playable albeit bugged outfit). The coat was reskinned, and geometry modified by adding the general's ribbons. A third version was added in Lonesome Road, as the US Army General outfit.

When worn on female characters, the heels are raised as if wearing high-heeled shoes, but Autumn's uniform is outfitted with regular boots.

Location[]

  • Worn by Col. Augustus Autumn. It is directly obtainable during Take it Back!, by killing Autumn and looting his corpse. There is only a brief window of opportunity to use it, unless Broken Steel is installed, which enables post-Purifier play.
  • The uniform can be obtained during The Waters of Life. When Autumn falls unconscious, his body can be looted by manipulating the camera angles until the prompt to loot his body appears. As such, two copies of the uniform can be obtained as he will wear another one during Take it Back!, rather than appearing in his underwear.

Behind the scenes[]

Rommel-Enclave Comparison

Early concept art for Fallout 3's Enclave drew heavily from the uniforms of the Nazi military.

  • Colonel Autumn's uniform went through several iterations, with the final design being a refinement of what Adamowicz called "Colonel Autumn: Teutonic Version,"[Non-game 2] as identified on the concept art. Some exploratory concepts included an all-black uniform evoking not merely German militarism, but the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany, with the peaked cap (featuring an eagle pin), goggles and pose almost perfectly matching a portrait photo of Erwin Rommel, one of the key Nazi generals.[Non-game 3] The final version simply updated the details and defined the colors: Black for the underarmor and tan for the overcoat. The coat's model was then reused in Operation: Anchorage, as General Chase's overcoat, and in Lonesome Road, as the US Army General outfit.
