Humanity's come a long way since players were first introduced to the post-nuclear world of Fallout in 1997. Join us as we celebrate the franchise's legacy with special events, sales and community giveaways!

Fallout 25th Anniversary was a promotional event created by Bethesda Softworks to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Fallout series, marking 25 years since the release of Fallout in 1997. It consisted of a number of giveaways and promotional events throughout October 2022.

Monthlong events[]

  • October 3 - November 1: Fallout 76 was free for Amazon Prime members, who could redeem a code for it on the Windows Store.
  • October 3 - November 1: The Fallout 1st service for Fallout 76 was free for one month for Xbox Game Pass users.
  • October 4 - November 2: Various Creation Club content was put on sale or made available for free.
  • October 4 onward: P.A.L.S., a choose-your-own-adventure style questionnaire to match players with factions suited to their play style, was made available.

Week 1 events[]

  • October 4-11: Fallout 76 held a free week, allowing anyone to try the game for free during the week.
  • October 4-18: Invaders from Beyond ran as the ongoing seasonal event for Fallout 76.
  • October 4-18: Fallout franchise titles were put on sale for up to 75% off.
  • October 4: A Fallout-themed Dynamic Background for Xbox Series X|S was made available.
  • October 7: A kickoff stream for the Fallout 25th Anniversary was held on Bethesda's Twitch channel.

Week 2 events[]

  • October 10: The 25th anniversary of the release of Fallout.
  • October 10: Multiple developer interviews were published, including the first video of the "Fallout Retrospective" series: "Conceiving Fallout," with Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky, Brian Fargo and Feargus Urquhart (see Video gallery). Separate interviews with composer Inon Zur and Bethesda programmer Erik Deitrick were also released.
  • October 10: An official Fallout Spotify playlist was published, featuring numerous songs from the series.
  • October 11: A new update for Fallout Shelter was released, featuring the first new content for the game in over four years.[1][2]
  • October 11-17: A Fallout 1st Limited Preview ran, allowing access to some Fallout 1st features on all consoles for the week.
  • October 14: A developer interview with Bethesda artist Christiane Meister was published.

Week 3 events[]

  • October 17-23: New items and sales were made available in the Bethesda Gear Store.
  • October 17: A "Fallout Timeline" article presenting the chronological order of the Fallout series was published.
  • October 18: A Vault-Tec themed Xbox controller from the Xbox Design Lab was made available to purchase.
  • October 18: Three new "Fallout Retrospective" videos were uploaded, focusing on the acquisition of Fallout by Bethesda Softworks, the live reveal of Fallout 4 in 2015, and the artistic choices behind the use of the color green throughout the series.
  • October 19: The first installment in a new video series, "Dear Vault Boy," was published, featuring "fan mail from the wasteland."
  • October 19: A developer interview with Bethesda artist Megan Sawyer was published.
  • October 20-24: Hunt for the Treasure Hunter ran as the ongoing community event for Fallout 76.
  • October 20-27: Fallout 3 was given away for free on the Epic Games Store.

Week 4 events[]

  • October 24: Five new "Fallout Retrospective" videos were uploaded, focusing on the releases of Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout Shelter, Fallout 76, as well as the score and soundtrack of the Fallout series.
  • October 25 - November 8: The Spooky Scorched community event was held for Fallout 76.
  • October 25 - November 8: Fallout 76 players could claim a free Anniversary Mystery Item in the Atomic Shop. Completing daily challenges with these items progressed towards weekly challenges to unlock the Wild Mountain Rifle Range Prefab, a new C.A.M.P. item.
  • October 26: Two "Dear Vault Boy" videos were published, "Unlocked and Loaded" and "Modder than Hell."
  • October 26: Four new "Fallout Retrospective" videos were uploaded, focusing on the VATS system, the setting of Boston for Fallout 4, Fallout's cross-generational appeal, and the Fallout television series.
  • October 27 and November 2: The Fallout 25th Anniversary Bundle for Fallout 76 could be claimed via Xbox Game Pass Perks and Amazon Prime Gaming Rewards starting on these respective dates.
