It's Rose again.
I've got the most amazing idea, but I'm not going to be naggy and ask everyone to photoshop examples for me so here it is.
Imagine Minecraft had a more functional online system (More customizable, more personality, more features, more friends etc...) You could have a friends list of all the people you know play Minecraft, you could chat with these friends you could connect to their world to assist with building, you could invite them to your world for assistance, You could trade your in-game items with them via a transaction feature.
These are only pictures (but good ones at that).
Hopefully any member of Mojang will notice this thread.
The new menu, featuring the "Online" button
The friends list, a players icon will be by default the facial region of the skin
The options a player can set for online play, With the feature to direct upload a skin from the game
The trading system between 2 players
*Sorry, the trading grid will be bigger and the grid on the right is the other persons inventory.
Looks good but:
A: Its very likely that this is never going to happen. (Aside from invite to your world)
B: There are already other programs for chatting to your friends.
C: Trading makes no sense. Seriously WHAT ARE YOU TRADING?
EDIT: To explain I like the idea I just have the feeling that this is never gonna be a feature.
A chatting system would be nice, but having a connection to a friend's world to build would be pretty difficult to set up I believe... Maybe not. I'm not a tech EXPERT.
I personally like the trade idea, but nowadays a lot of people use InvEdit to get stuff and it would be a little pointless.
Still, maybe 64 to you. (not quite a )

I love it, but it will probably never get in. Notch is too lazy to implement at least one of these, or at least spend money setting up the chat and rank things.
I'd agree with the world rank thing not necessarily making sense in a game with no real goal. So i'm not keen on that.
Your trading system I like, BUT it should be in-game only. I'd trade with someone on a server, but I want to be in the world so it's more physical where you have to meet up with someone some where and click on them to trade or something.
Lastly, I agree a friend's list, skin-uploading from inside the client and other similar social features like messaging and whispering cross-server would be good features to look into. However whispering cross-server would probly require a central coordinating server for ALL chat across ALL MC servers.. which may be a bit redonkulous.
good ideas :smile.gif:

Very cool stuff,
But I have a suggestion. For trading, would it not make more sense to show your whole inventory not just this 3 by 3 square that only give you 9 options. Also, theres no real point in showing your friends inventory (assuming thats what the other 3 by 3 square is) so really, my way the trade box would be no bigger than a craft/fernace menu.
Also I agree a quick chat would be necessary for this too.

~ Larger than life, Greater the fear, If you love me I will always be here. ~
Yes world rank is a bit ridiculous, I think total time played would be better. (Format: 3 Days, 13 Hours, 24 Minutes).
Just say i had 50 Diamonds in my inventory (I wish) and my friend was willing to trade me a sh*t load of refined gold for it. You'd request trade and trade them (In-Game Items).
Yes InvEdit and Inside Job will be a pain but they could use a technique utilised by Jagex, Online data storage and retrieval (all your items and progress are stored on Mojang's Server/Online HDD) they are retrieved everytime you play online. (No you will not be downloading 1-3 MB of data every time you play, your generated world will be on your HDD and therefore does not have to be downloaded).
That appears to be all the questions answered.
Ask more... I love it.
Oh and I did send an email to [email protected] and it looked pretty damn informal/professional. (Chance of being included just grew.)
This is freakin amazing, but would trading only work on singleplayer? Because I only play on a multiplayer server I host, so I'm assuming it wouldn't connect to that one? But anyways, 10x
Player 1 needs torches because night is falling and his house will be destroyed by mobs if he doesn't find some.
Player 2 needs glass to complete his mob-trap
Player 1 will trade 20 blocks of glass to Player 2 in return for some torches.
I really like the idea of being able to jump into a friend's world or invite them to mine. Even if the guest could not really interact beyond opening doors or flipping redstone switches. Simply being able to show them around your creation without having to build it on a SMP server and risk getting grieffed in one form or another.
Online data storage and retrieval (all your items and progress are stored on Mojang's Server/Online HDD)
Putting that much data on the servers isn't a good idea. We're talking multiplying the bandwidth used to JUST to login by at least 10 times. The servers are already struggling with just logins so why multiply that traffic by 10?
Why should we even care about items obtained through cheating? Seriously if you don't want cheated items just don't trade them. No ones forcing you to trade.

side note: I think there is a 'suggestions' area somewhere around here
it's platforming...not parkour <<
But what are the criterion for achieving ranks? I think that feature could be left out, as it's putting an objective into a non-objective-based game.

OP still hasn't told us what we are even trading in the first place.
I guessed that you switch Items in your singleplayer game with your friends.
"Hey man, I'm on my first night and I just run out of torches; mobs are gonna be flooding my bathroom all night. Can I have some coal?"
"Sure bro, but my tree farm just got burnt down, and I need a few saplings."
"No problem - trade?"
"It's a deal!"

Ok then. That would be fine if it doesn't affect multiplayer in any way otherwise:
"Hey I found this server that has TNT enabled. Could you give me a few stacks."
"Yeah sure bro I'll just open up my memory editor and get a few on my singleplayer to trade with you."

People can only trade single-player items.

The following is true, the former is false.
