Note to all Trap Architects[]

Please test you trap out before posting it. People don't want theoretical designs that may not work once finished. It wastes time and resources building worthless contraptions.--JSan 01:24, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

This page is way too simple you know. These are basically the only ways to make a mob spawner trap. btw I added a cactus mob spawner section.--BURRITO333 01:21, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

This is the first page I started. I'm a begginer at this. But I just started the page and left it to be improved on.--JSan 01:24, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Skeleton/Zombie drowning trap needs clarification[]

This paragraph contains many run-on sentences and is very difficult to follow. An improvement in the form of making the instructions more clear would be greatly appreciated. I attempted to build said trap, and I will say from experience that it does not work quite the way it said it would due to how water physics function. Tedious 00:17, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

I agree, and a simple diagram would help enormously. Thanks.--J-wad 12:46, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Sunlight trap[]

A sunlight trap won't work. The zombies and skeletons won't spawn since you're letting too much light in. CactusTrio 01:42, 2 May 2011 (UTC)CactusTrio

I have built an efficient sun trap : the dungeon is next to a sunlit room. The skeletons walk gently to the sun light and die. I build a double door command between the dungeon and the sunlit room to collect the items in security. It is possible to work on it : water can push the zombie to the sunlight. Cleanup[]

Cleaned up the article a little. It should be somewhat easier to comprehend now without the constantly repeating "Then", optionals in the main instructions and a complete disregard for paragraphing. HUGE PENIS OF EDITING 10:29, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

drowning trap wrong text[]

its posiable to make an drowning trap that dont use glass and thgat works faster than the traps whit glass, I wil post a link when I have timeFerry 15:10, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Improved "tail" trap[]

if the floor of the tail trap is fences, it forces mobs into the lava. only fences dont have the air pocket other half-blocks have, so fences not only force the mobs into the fiery death, they drag the drops to you too. it tried it, and its awesome!

Youtube video[]

I found this video, which is probably the better video out there about making a MS trap, could someone put it in for me? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T18p71Qbs7s&list=FLgvcgMtGrjEBNpJJCiJ6lcA& --Delo997 13:56, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Maximum number of mobs[]

I've built a XP farming mob grinder on a zombie spawner using fall damage. It works fine, but it seems that after around 500-600 mobs no more mobs are spawning. I've tried leaving my game on for 8 hours while sleeping and when I wake up and kill everything I get around that amount of rotten flesh/XP. Once I instead tried waiting for around 32 hours and got the same number of rotten flesh/XP.

Is this because the gaming is lagging after a while, or because of despawning? Is there anything I can do to get more mobs at the same time? The answer to this would be a nice addition to this tutorial. ZkilfinG 19:53, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

There's a mob cap. See Spawn#Mob_Spawning 108.23.47.55 09:40, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

The normal mob cap has nothing to do with this. The mob cap is around 70 for normal spawning methods, but as said above, many more than that will spawn from a mob spawner. I've never tried letting more than around 400-500 spawn at a time because it causes lag issues.186.43.182.120 03:52, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

Regarding the Video at the bottom of the page[]

Though I respect the creativity in using pistons as automatic walls, considering what this trap does, it's essentially a waste of resources. You can pretty much replicate its exact effect (and even potentially improve on it) by just making an edged hole in the ground or a fence box with stairs all along the outside (though the latter wouldn't be spider proof). Do we really need the video here? --I Like Pie 23:59, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

The Flow Trap[]

I made the Flow Trap, and it's great. Me and my friend did it, and we basically cashed in the drops and became the richest on the server after 3 hours! Then life was good. Post comments here about how the Flow Trap worked for you. - TexasMike10 96.226.64.167 02:27, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Finding a Dungeon[]

The finding a dungeon section offers almost no information about finding a dungeon, but rather types of dungeon and their usefulness. I suggest the section needs revision, or the name should be changed. 97.91.104.111 03:24, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Clarify spawning area?[]

Can someone clarify the spawning area around a spawner? The page currently says "Horizontally, that's 8×8, from the northwestern-corner of the spawner." which isn't really clear... --StarChaser Tyger 02:40, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Dungeons spawn ALWAYS underground?[]

I've witnessed a couple of times dungeons spawning on the edge of a hill/cliff exposed to the outside (meaning sun-lit area; obviously not in the Nether). Although I have to admit it is very, very rare to happen it is possible. However I've never seen a dungeon completely under the sun preventing mobs from spawning. So They appear to spawn in random places, but almost ALWAYS underground should be changed to IN MOST CASES and maybe even add this rare occurrence.

The centre of spawn has changed[]

As of version 1.8, the spawning area is centred on the middle of the spawner block, not the northwestern corner, meaning a 9x9 room is required. Could someone verify and edit the page?

[Resolved] Revert my edit[]

Somehow my submitted edited version of the page was missing 9600 bytes at the end!? Please undo my edit as soon as possible (I'm on phone right now). Thanks. Lê Duy Quang (Make some words | Contributions) 14:57, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

Leduyquang753, I've restored the content you removed from the experience trap section to the end. Is that what you want? If so,  Done-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed TerracottaTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta 15:00, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, that was exactly what I wanted. Thank you. Lê Duy Quang (Make some words | Contributions) 15:10, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

Outdated[]

I will try to work on this article soon, but wow its outdated. Most of these methods are never used, or if they are its on special farms such as guardian which is not a spawner trap. Should I try to salvage all this stuff or do I try to keep tutorial to more common solutions? Most of these look like they haven't been updated in years, and the few useful ones don't have enough details on how to optimise. (how far to drop, how close/far to spawner it should be, etc.) BloonsDooms (talk) 01:01, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

I'd say go ahead and remove anything outdated. I just looked it over and there's a lot here that seems still valid.
This is also an example of a well-formed tutorial article, because it is self-contained with its own diagrams and images, and not reliant on numerous links to Youtube videos. Ideally a good tutorial shouldn't need Youtube at all, and too many of the tutorials here are nothing more than Youtube directories. Amatulic (talk) 02:33, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
