Why islands are considered a rough place to start out on in Survival[]
I confess I don't understand why islands are considered such a rough place to start out on in Survival in this article. Yes, Drowned with tridents can be QUITE dangerous, but that's what a hut is for.
As long as there is at least one tree on the island, you have everything you need to start digging right then and there.
No tree? Pick a direction and swim. Seriously. Just. Swim. The only thing in the water that's honestly dangerous (as of v1.16) are Drowned with tridents - from which you sprint-swim away and outdistance, and Pufferfish (same). 198.30.200.0 05:46, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
- You mean 1.13 for Java Edition or 1.4 and 1.5 for Bedrock Edition.
- I don't know about that but maybe this page was created before update aquatic, which at the time, survival in small islands without tree in middle of ocean was rough as there no trident, turtle shell, shipwreck, ruins, buried treasure, coral, better swimming, item float on water, kelp as food, or fish mob.
- Other than Drowned, underwater ravines may add little difficulty (but not much) and so is Frozen ocean as it spawn polar bear and stray.
- Also as update come, some features may change in future which can increase or decrease the difficulty of surviving in specific biomes, an update not just affect ocean survival, it also affect other challenges such as Village and Pillage that change difficulty of some resource in superflat survival and desert survival. - Yes, and in the Exploring section, why do you need to make shelters and tree farms? Why don’t you just make a boat and leave the island and go to a mainland and live there? I don’t understand. In re of unsolicited and wrong revision undoing; 'Social Network' & 'Link spamming'
Let's firstly begin the discussion of the inappropriateness and recklessness of undoing a revision on baseless and distasteful message like such, this is not an appropriate form of message to leave on a revision.
Next; providing appropriate links to assist end users in their tutorial of said subject is an appropriate form and avenue of content provided to the user on a wiki page, such content allows the user to not only receive a suite of information, but also a suite of content, bringing them back to the same tutorial for additional information and work.
We should be providing users with appropriate and acceptable content that guides them to their goal. - Thank you for bringing this up on the talk page. Aside from the past that the material reverted included style guide violations and promotional prose (which would justify reverting anyway), I'll make these points:
- This wiki is a reference site, not a directory of external links. As I said in my edit summary, this wiki is not a social networking site (meaning a site for link sharing). In particular, external links to user generated content is also inappropriate, particularly if that content is redundant to the content of this page. Readers are fully capable of googling this on their own.
- If there is any tutorial information in those links that repeat what this tutorial article already says, then there is no reason to include the link. Conversely, if this article omits information that may be included in those links, the information should be included in prose rather than link.
- The "ease of access" argument does not justify linkspamming. There are thousands of seeds that spawn the player on an island. Ease of access is accomplished by listing those seeds. This tutorial already mentions a few.
- Finally, and most important, these links violate Minecraft Wiki:Wiki rules. See #5.
- These are inappropriate links. Not only are they not permitted, but there are alternatives as described above. Amatulic (talk) 18:17, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
- Oops, I erred in one statement above, where I said this tutorial already mentions a few seeds. Looking it over, I see it mentions only one, the "Ocean monument ahead" seed from the Bedrock Edition seed picker.
- It would be good if this tutorial included a section of interesting world seeds, in Java and Bedrock. The Bedrock seed picker already includes some island survival seeds. Some Bedrock Edition seeds also generate similar terrain in Java Edition, so they may work in both editions. Amatulic (talk) 18:26, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
