Entering from above?[]

Has anyone considered going into a monument from above? That's how I did it and I barely took that much damage on normal difficulty. It used buckets of laval to solidify the water above the monument and then I had to bring a cow to milk over and over again. My only caveat to that would be to still bring the usual potion station but then you can set it up over the monument itself.

Yes, I also enter from above as part of a comprehensive, early-game strategy. I use sand and a bucket to manage the water, though. Then I just have to mine a single block of prismarine. I use a number of other tricks and techniques so that I don't need any enchantments or potions at all, so no need for a potion station, either. Scudobuio (talk) 15:09, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

If you want to tackle one before you can brew potions, I found that strategy of using ladders and sand to "soak up" the water is very effective. Works best if you can lure a cow nearby so you can easily go back for more milk as needed. I usually carry 8-10 buckets of milk, a diamond shovel, a stack of torches and fill the rest of my inventory with sand and ladders.

Conduits (with Activation Frames) in 1.3[]

There might be a useful write-up here, for anyone who wants to do it, about that 1.3 (Aquatic Update) addition. For example, the Mining Fatigue might be somewhat-mitigated by the Mining Speed increase.

But of course Breathing (infinitely), as well as Night Vision (UnderWater vision is already being-increased in 1.3); but also its Light source: level 15 Light brightness. And attacking Hostile Mobs within 8 Blocks every 2 sec's. doesn't hurt (the Player). 6 /16 /18 10:34 p.m. Yilante 108.215.209.201 05:34, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

Ocean monmumnt in update aquatic[]

What stuff in this article is still relivant with update aquatic? Quickhakker (talk) 20:58, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure almost all of it will still be relevant. The only thing that changed in the Update Aquatic for BE regarding ocean monuments is that they now generate in the new types of oceans. So as far as I know, there won't be any major changes to ocean monuments in the Update Aquatic that will make a lot of the article irrelevant.-- Madminecrafter12Orange Glazed TerracottaTalk to meLight Blue Glazed Terracotta 22:46, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
There will actually be more relevant because of the new features (tridents, bubble columns, conduits, etc). However, visibility-related information will need to be rewritten.

Move to Tutorials/Defeating a monument[]

As of the Update Aquatic, ocean monuments are just called monuments. We should move the page accordingly. The BlobsPaper 15:01, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

A lot of unnecessary advice here[]

I've been working on taking over the nearest monument to the world spawn point in the "Ocean Monuments Ahead" seed from the Bedrock Edition seed picker.

I have found the advice given here about equipment needed is mostly worthless and needs paring down.

So far, starting with a couple of stacks of sand and a stack of slime blocks (which took me a long time to collect; I had to build a slime farm on my home island), I have managed to clear out most of the top three levels of the monument. Finding a sponge room helped. I built a conduit frame but I haven't yet needed to find a Heart of the Sea to make a conduit. There is a shipwreck nearby, which can be seen from the monument, so I would be able to get the Heart of the Sea if I need it.

My equipment:

  • gold helmet with Respiration III (got from a zombie spawner farm) - I haven't needed to swim much but the extra insurance is comforting
  • shovel with Efficiency (these are dropped from my zombie farm, but I also fished up a book with Efficiency)
  • gold pickaxe with Efficiency (gold is efficient all on its own)
  • stone pickaxes (after defeating the top elder guardian, I stopped getting hit with Mining Fatigue so stone pickaxes work fine)
  • about 50 slime blocks (could have been honey blocks but I built the slime farm before trying to farm honey)
  • a couple stacks of sand
  • a couple stacks of cobblestone
  • a bucket
  • a bow and arrows for killing any nearby land-mobs (but I was able to shoot the bow into the water to kill a couple of guardians)
  • some ladders
  • a stack of glass blocks (decorative, I like undersea windows)
  • a stack of torches
  • and after clearing out the penthouse:
    • a chest
    • a furnace
    • a crafting table
    • a bed

Pretty basic stuff, nothing fancy like recommended in this tutorial. Diamond or netherite equipment? Ridiculous. I've already removed those materials from the list. No need to go into the Nether before taking over a monument, and so far no need for diamonds either.

I spent a long time fishing for enchantment books. I spent a long time building farms that allowed me to obtain the helmet and slime blocks. This wasn't hard, just time comsuming. I also spent a tediously long time growing and removing oak and birch trees near flowers on my island until I got a bee nest, and then built beehives to get more bees to have a supply of honey blocks instead of slime blocks, but the slime farm has been more efficient. I converted a zombie spawner to a drowned farm, but I haven't needed anything from the drowned; the gold armor dropped by the drowning the zombies has been far more useful, a good source of gold to make tools that are efficient (gold is the best, just not durable), and a good source of enchanted armor.

Since 1.17 came out, I haven't been hit with Mining Fatigue after killing the top elder guardian, which makes things easier. I suspect that axolotls spawned in the area eventually took care of the other elder guardians. I won't know until I get around to clearing the wings of the monument. Also since 1.17, the slime farm has become far less productive, making me wonder if the slime chunks moved.
