Redirect removal[]

Can I remove the redirect to Java Edition 1.16?--Delibirda (talk) 17:47, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

Probably best to wait until piglins appear in a development version, per the style guide, which is likely gonna be somewhat soon.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 17:53, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
OK.--Delibirda (talk) 10:07, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Bartering[]

We've got a WIP bartering page: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Bartering, however the bartering info was just added to the main page. Do we want to keep that or move it to its own page? --Morpheus836 (talk) 16:18, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

Well, trading has it's own page separate from the villager and wandering trader pages, so I think barter also should. CrCl3 (talk) 16:41, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
I agree, I'll leave it up to someone else to change it around though. Not the best when it comes to adding page redirects and such :P --Morpheus836 (talk) 16:42, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
It was done --Morpheus836 (talk) 16:50, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

Unarmed baby[]

Baby Piglins spawn unarmed, so shouldn't the image on the page be unarmed as well? Why are they holding a Golden Sword and a Crossbow as well?199.187.209.28 10:16, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Now fixed that image. Thank you. Pneuma01 (talk) 11:07, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Piglins with NoAI tag shake[]

this doesnt happen with any other mob and its super weird. to summon piglin with NoAI, do /summon piglin ~ ~ ~ {NoAI:1}--Diamonddemon669 (talk) 14:38, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

That's the transformation progress when in the overworld, it's not specific to NoAI (it's not AI, thus not disabled). FVbico (talk) 14:44, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Piglins should be classified as hostile[]

Hello. Piglins are classified as neutral mobs, i think they should be classified as hostile and here are my reasons:

Piglins attack player on sight, which is exactly how hostile mobs are described. But the reason they are described as neutral is because of theirs neutrality towards players with g. armor. The thing is that naturally, players dont have golden armor, so piglins cant be fundamentally neutral, but hostile. Wait, let me tell you that again, better and with example:

Spiders. Spiders are, just like piglins, very unique mob in their classification. Spiders are both neutral and hostile, then why theyre classified as neutral? BECAUSE theyre hostile only when it is dark and that is temporary variable, making spider's neutrality go above its hostility. The same thing is with piglins, their hostility goes above their neutrality, because neutrality after g. armor is secondary trait of their behaviour.

Neutral mobs are those that attack us AFTER certain interaction, be it attacking, looking at them in enderman's case and possibly others. BUT piglins attack us without any interaction, just like hostile mobs and become neutral AFTER we put on golden armor, after an certain interaction, they are like reverted neutral mobs and just like spiders differ from "traditional" neutral mob, piglins differ from "traditional" hostile mob.

ALSO, hostile mobs are not mobs that allways attack us (or at least, logically, shouldnt be), but mobs that attack us on sight, unlike neutralobs, WITHOUT provocation, which piglins do, unless you use their secondary behavioral trait, the one with golden armor. If they fundamentally, without interaction between you and said mob, attack you on sight without provocation, boom, hostile mob, if they attack you AFTER certain interaction, boom, neutral.

We dont need to change anything anywhere else but that one word, that one and only word in piglin's page telling everyone, what mob they are.

These are my reasons, thank you for your time. Klusimo (talk) 08:56, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

If the definition for neutral is hostile after a condition post-spawning, then spiders are hostile too, they can only spawn in darkness, and are hostile in the darkness; even more true for cave spiders. The definition the wiki uses, which is way more simple, is it can have both hostile and passive behavior; no "passive/hostile after X", just "passive when X and hostile when Y".
So piglins really should be considered neutral, not hostile. FVbico (talk) 13:02, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
I dont want to sound rude, but spiders spawning in dark, thus being hostile is like talking about piglins that spawned with you already having golden armor. But you got a point, lets forget spiders. Piglins still are hostile for most time unless you wear armor and that is little specific variable, that is TLDR version of my argument. Klusimo (talk) 14:39, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
I agree. Piglins are hostile by default. They are neutral if you wear gold armor. To me this is analogous to (but not quite the same as) wearing a carved pumpkin so you can look at an enderman. Looking triggers an enderman's hostility, and proximity triggers a piglin's hostility. In either case, the hostility isn't triggered if you wear something specific. The piglin's hostility (triggered by proximity) is no different than the trigger for any other hostile mob. ~ Amatulic (talk) 15:35, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Making Piglins a hostile mobs is making this whole hostile/neutral thing very confusing and doesn't make any sense with the history of how mobs were classified. I didn't understand why they were considered hostile when I first saw the very first sentence of this guide. I even went back and checked that spiders were still neutral... Either the definition of what an hostile mob is is changed (thus making spiders and maybe other mobs hostile) or Piglins are considered neutral, like they should be. Klusimo doesn't seem to understand what the classification is all about. Spiders aren't "neutral and hostile". They are neutral because they can attack the player or not depending on the conditions. Mobs are always only hostile or neutral or passive. They can't be more than one thing. Hirondelline (talk) 20:13, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

Iron Golems[]

Breaking blocks[]

So one of the ways piglins can become hostile towards players if a player starts mining a gold block, but do they become hostile if the players mines nether gold ore?73.208.227.101 20:50, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

Don't add pigmen to this article[]

Pigmen and piglins are completely different mobs with different AI's because pigmen are passive mob that lives in villages on overworld as pigmen are more closely related to villagers than piglins as according to Notch pigmen lives in villages just like villagers lives in village not in the nether Source: https://twitter.com/notch/status/62531431175421952

Netherite vs. gold[]

I find it kinda odd that piglins value gold more than netherite. Mabye they haven’t discovered netherite? But I doubt that, because… well… I mean, of course they discovered netherite! …but they still like gold more? Even though gold is much more common and less valuable? I mean, I kinda find that odd. 98.17.82.123 14:59, 19 July 2020 (UTC)

yea but i guess that is part of their culture or something. James Haydon (talk) 21:31, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
My interpretation is that perhaps they have forgotten the use of netherite, which they only used in their days of glory (i.e. perhaps when bastions were first built? Just a theory). These days they neither know how to use it, nor have any use for it because they have only some diamond armour/tools to use it on, which are hoarded as treasure.
Please Not Me, a Ranger of the North Enter my secret hideout 02:05, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Well the Zombie Pigmen used nothing but gold, so it probably comes from that. Also, there’s an abundance of Nether Gold Ore, compared to a rare commodity of Ancient Debris. TBFTE123 (talk) 11:21, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Do not call piglin hostile[]

because piglins are neutral 49.146.40.160 08:52, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

They’re only neutral if you’re wearing gold armor, except if you open chests or mine nether gold ore near them. They become hostile without you wearing gold armor. It’s confusing, trust me. TBFTE123 (talk) 11:23, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Yea its kind of like pufferfish, where people say its passive, neutral and hostile. James Haydon (talk) 15:36, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
A mob's behavior can't be neutral (at any given moment). Mob's behavior is always passive or hostile, and mobs that are sometimes one and sometimes the other are classified as neutral. An unprovoked piglin is passive towards the player wearing gold armor, and upon being provoked, either by being attacked or the player opening a chest, it becomes hostile - this makes it classification neutral. This can be compared to e.g. spiders, which are by default hostile, but are not always hostile, and are thus neutral. Blue Banana whotookthisname (talk) 10:36, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello.[]

Hello, call me Kuro, although my username is Bobosigianan. I recently edited the page, and someone changed all my work. Not that that is the problem, but people keep typing Mob names starting with a lowercase letter. But it should be typed starting with a capital letter (i.g. piglin, dirt, iron sword → Piglin, Dirt, Iron Sword). This includes things that exist in real life, like the Pig or Wolf. So please type in all Mob names, biome names, block names, and item names starting with a capital letter. If you disagree, or have any problems with this, please reply to me with a reason. Thank you. Bobosigianan (talk) 00:56, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

According to the Style guide, items use common nouns but if it is in the beginning it use proper nouns. TheGreatSpring (talk) 01:05, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

Celebration Bartering[]

For some reason, when I barter with piglins, I hear the celebration sound coming from the piglin sometimes instead of the admiring sound. Baby Piglin On Hoglin Zombiefied?[]

friendly piglin[]

Maybe with hacks, but otherwise, no. Amatulic (talk) 02:50, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, just use /summon piglin ~ ~ ~ {IsBaby:1}[Java Edition only]. You can also find them naturally, if they are 1 block tall, they are friendly. The only problem is you can't barter with them. Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 07:02, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
You definitely can in vanilla with a command (although it's not exactly "friendly", rather that it can't detect you, but i assume that's close enough) /summon piglin ~ ~ ~ {Attributes:[{Name:generic.follow_range,Base:0}]} CyanAqua54 (talk) 04:45, 16 August 2021 (UTC)CyanAqua54

Piglins not spawning on peaceful unless you're wearing golden armor[]

Just FYI. Running Java 1.16.5, and never saw a piglin, even though I'd been all over the Nether Wastes. Baby piglins drop any item they pick up[]

So the article says that piglins drop whatever they pick up except gold ingots (unless the piglin admiring it is killed in one hit) and porkchops, but baby piglins drop literally anything they pick up, so maybe add that baby piglins drop whatever they pick up? 76.64.55.165 14:41, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

Remove "Gold-like items not wanted by Piglins"[]

I just don't see the point of that entire section, as only one (the totem of undying) could be mistaken for a gold-related item for an experienced player, while the glowstone and yellow dye can easily be differentiated by anyone with Minecraft experience.

There also isn't any specific guidelines to what counts as "gold-like" unlike the "Gold-related items not wanted by Piglins" section

It's not even useful, because it's just "not gold-related and not wanted by piglins", which makes the only difference from other items is that it's "sorta yellow", and is just confusing.

Support because the “Items piglins want” should be enough, the sections about what items piglins don’t want can just confuse people not noticing what section they are reading. TheLegendaryOrb (talk) 06:24, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
I agree. I have removed the lists of items that piglins don't want, replacing the lists with a single sentence that piglins don't want any items not already listed. Amatulic (talk) 19:20, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

Is this true?[]

"Items picked up by a piglin do not drop when the piglin is killed."

99.252.150.246 12:44, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

That is not true, if piglins are killed, they will drop armor, gold (excluding gold ingots), and porkchops that they picked up.

Piglin151 (talk) 02:18, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Piglins will attack all players in the area if one player mines gold[]

I've recently noticed that if a player mines gold, piglins in the area attack them, but also any other players in the area, even if they never did anything (they are wearing gold armor, didn't mine gold or open a chest) Does this happen in Java edition also? And is it intended behavior, or a bug?
