Question[]

Is script engine still under this? --Illagercaptain (talk) 15:06, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Plank Blocks in Minecraft[]

Plank Blocks In minecraft were a feature that allowed players to build basic houses or their first one with the oak ones. Apparently in 1.16 there was now Crimson and Warped planks. This is all I could say. 172.14.165.119 21:08, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

Bedrock ONLY???[]

If this feature is exclusive to Bedrock Edition then why does it appear all the time when trying to use modded Java Edition????

The image says Experimental Settings not Experimental Gameplay? It's probably a hidden setting in a world file. (By the way I fixed your image) TheLegendaryOrb (talk) 02:07, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

To add[]

With the new experimental gameplay toggles, is someone able to add what each of them do specifically as i think thats needed to make it no longer a stub (dont count on that though) --Yep,AnotherSlimyPython (talk) 09:03, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed in 1.16.201 there is no longer an "experimental gameplay" toggle. Now there are three things:
  • Holiday Creator Features
  • Creation of Custom Biomes
  • Additional Modding Capabilities
None of these seem to activate experimental features such as new items that are supposed to be available in Experimental Gameplay, such as a lightning rod. Amatulic (talk) 01:33, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

delete redirect[]

I think we should delete Experimental gameplay.it's a useless redirect to Experimental Gameplay.User:Mr._trex_2021 mr. t rex 2021

What on the Overworld do you mean 😕? MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 16:10, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
I mean there is a redirect with the same name except it's in lower case.click on the "(Redirected from Experimental gameplay)"link.° ----)[[1]]User:Mr._trex_2021 mr. t rex 2021
I get it now. I'll fix it. Don't forget to sign your comments with ~~~~MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 16:31, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Wait no MediaWiki is case-sensitive for words other than the first one. It would break the link. MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 16:33, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

ok. User:Mr._trex_2021 mr. t rex 2021

Outdated information[]

It says upcoming 1.17, but 1.17 was already released.--71.114.45.13 21:00, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

It says 1.17.10, not 1.17.0. Nothing outdated here – JEC talk @ 21:09, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

"Experimental Gameplay" is an obsolete term[]

When Mojang first added an Experimental Gameplay toggle, it was specifically for work-in-progress features that changed gameplay. This is no longer the case since at least 1.17 and possibly 1.16. Mojang is now using it for any features and behavior that they don't intend to become default gameplay, whether it's work in progress features or finished features that are only meant for development and testing use. For instance, Enable GameTest Framework was moved under Experiments (in 1.17 I think) after being outside it, always available. I think what that implies is that it's not meant for default gameplay, which is intuitively obvious anyway. Note also that Mojang has rewritten the text associated with the Experiments toggles to remove all references to work in progress, because that's not what they're (exclusive) using it for any more. (Note that the image on this page is out of date.) So we need to catch up. Unfortunately, that's going to take some work, because we have the {{Experimental Gameplay}} template and categories it generates that assume these are all WIP features. The template name is no longer descriptive, and it now generates categories of questionable value since they're based on a false foundation. Thoughts, anyone? — Auldrick (talk · contribs) 22:12, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

Actually everything under this is still in development, including the Gametest Framework, that it extremely work in progress. The only real exception is the scripting engine, which is considered obsolete, but as an unfinished project, so it still would be a wip functionality. --MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 06:56, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
That's one interpretation, but not the one that makes the best sense. You're ignoring the fact that Mojang removed all references to Experimental Gameplay; they must have had a reason to withdraw that word in favor of redesignating all those features as "Experiments". And as for GameTest Framework being a WIP, they may be adding more tests but that doesn't make the whole existing framework unfinished. By that logic, you could say that swamps are WIP because they haven't added the frogs yet. Same argument applies to the Scripting Engine: If it were "obsolete", why would it still be in the game? Did you you mean deprecated? If so, where's your evidence? — Auldrick (talk · contribs) 07:36, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
Experimental Gameplay is an old term, and yes it should be changed to experiments, but I believe that was already voted out, (I remade the template after it was renamed). There are no "finished features that are only meant for development and testing use", or at least no official mention of them being as that, they still are experiments. As for the Scripting engine, I meant not being updated nor supported (bugfixwise) anymore, having been replaced by add-ons. --MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 18:30, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
Well, I'm glad you agree with the section title at least. When/where was it voted out? Consensus is not immutable. Any previous consensus is subject to review unless it was very recent, and I would happily take the lead in raising it again. As for whether certain experiments are WIP, I see no reason we need to agree on that as long as we stop calling them "Gameplay". I only tried to reframe them in support of the idea that Experimental Gameplay wasn't about gameplay any more and should be renamed. (I still don't agree with the way you use WIP, and I think you're factually wrong about Scripting in every respect, but I see no reason we have to agree.) — Auldrick (talk · contribs) 21:53, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
