— Guide to Minecraft Dungeons: A Handbook for Heroes |
The Illagers are villager-like hostile mobs that can be found within the various missions of Minecraft Dungeons with the exception of gold rooms and Coral Rise.
Story[]
The Illagers are members of a cruel society in which the strong rule over all. Until the Arch-Illager came along, they were never strong enough to pose a threat to the peace of the Overworld. Yet, now they are unified as the Illager empire under the rule of the Arch-Illager. Being the most numerous of his followers and minions, Illager bands have grown bolder, being now capable of burning villages, destroying iron golems, and even enslaving villagers. Now, heroes must arise to oppose the Illager empire, rescue the villagers, and save the Overworld...
According to The Rise of the Arch-Illager, illagers were hostile to undead mobs until the Arch-Illager reached an agreement with nameless one.
Appearance[]
Illagers are humanoid mobs that look similar to villagers, merchants and witches, but have gray skin and big, poofy eyebrows. Their clothing style depends on their occupation type, which is traditional warrior and magician dress style.

Trivia[]
- The illagers have a runic alphabet called Illageralt.
- In the early Beta version, trailers and poster, illagers used the texture of 1.14 Texture update, but later the head texture was changed with the exception of the illagers with decorative details on their head and main characters such as the Arch-Illager, royal guards, mages, and iceologers.
- Because only the head texture has been changed, the base color of the geomancer's limbs are different from the base color of their head.
- In the later DLC, mountaineers and their variant's faces use the new head texture. However in the cutscene in the End Wilds of the Echoing Void, the unidentified end illager's head uses the old texture.
