Not a cheatsheet?[]

This seems somewhat "talky" for a reader guide. I was thinking something like a cheatsheet? ("What is that symbol? Oh, that's what it is. Okay!")

Component symbols
Off On Represents
redstone wire
redstone torch
redstone repeater
redstone comparator
block
moving block
etc.
Multi-level symbols
Off On Represents
wire over block
etc.

Also, you might want to use just the SchematicSprite template for individual sprites, rather than the overkill Schematic. SchematicSprites also default to inline, so they can flow easily with text.

Whoops, didn't see your stuff here before I moved the page. I'll probably merge in some of your stuff to the page (and convert to bare sprites), but at this point that's a matter of "improving" rather than "providing the basics", so it can wait for the subpages at least. --Mental Mouse 02:18, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
Clarifying the above before I head off to bed: I don't think it's necessary to show every component/setting, so much as examples of each. I will add more, especially side views and comparators. Also, the examples are chosen to display an assortment of things in context. And I think being "chatty" is OK for the reader's guide, it shouldn't be as dry as the topic pages. I'm going to be working my "day job" tomorrow so I won't be able to do much here, but if you're impatient you can feel free to work on it too. --Mental Mouse 03:20, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
I'm the opposite of impatient -- I take forever to do things. I'll wait to see what you do with it. It already looks a lot better, I may have just caught it mid-edit/composition. : )

@Munin295: Thanks for that. It seems it's still missing the redstone torch. Could we add it? I'm not sure how. Benjaminikuta (talk) 09:39, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Move to Help namespace?[]

This page isn't a tutorial about Minecraft, it's about a wiki tool and so should probably be in the Help namespace.

I suggest moving this page to Help:Schematic.

I could go with that, I just stuck it with the Redstone tutorials. --Mental Mouse 20:03, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

More info please[]

Once I found a wonderful page that gave detailed explanations about R, S, Q, Q hat, T and other diagram conventions. For the life of me I cannot find it again. Just wondering why it isn't here. It also explained about symbols used with hoppers, droppers, dispensers or furnaces and how to tell the difference between those grayish/stone blocks. Again, not here. It says 1 tick repeaters are unlit and 2 tick repeaters are lit. What about 3 & 4? Can someone help me find that page again please? Nothingl (talk) 15:54, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

There's some more documentation at Template:Schematic; maybe that's what you saw before? -- Orthotopetalk 16:28, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Suggestion: Change blocks shown in schematics[]

I'd like to suggest changing the following block images on schematics:

  • Moving block: Diamond → Emerald
  • Any block: Stone bricks → Smooth stone
  • Stationary opaque block: Gold → Stone
  • Transparent block: Smooth stone slab → Glass

The current block images feel distracting and unhelpful, and I feel that those would be easier on the eyes. - 37.248.214.1 05:51, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

This page needs more pictures[]

It's very good for the actual redstone stuff, but it's totally missing hoppers, droppers, dispensers, etc. On page https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Tutorials/Storage_minecarts#Item_unloader, the picture shows what look like hoppers and droppers, but with arrows and squares, and there's no explanation for them. Look at the Layers 2 and 3 pictures under Item loader Design C. I THINK the hoppers with arrows simply indicate the direction the hopper is pointing, but is the one with the white square pointing down? And, the dropper PICTURE seems to be facing up, but I'm pretty sure it has to be pointing into the hopper next to it. Does having the dropper's "mouth" on the hopper side indicate it should point that direction?

So, bottom line is that this Schematic page needs a few more pictures, but I'm not sure how to add them. (I tried one, but all I got was a black picture/box.) SirDaddicus (talk) 22:10, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
