Setsuna F. Seiei (刹那・F・セイエイ Setsuna Efu Seiei?), born Soran Ibrahim, is the main protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam 00. He is a Gundam Meister of the paramilitary organization Celestial Being and humanity's first True Innovator. In season 1, he pilots GN-001 Gundam Exia. In season 2, he pilots GN-0000 00 Gundam and co-pilots its variant, the GN-0000+GNR-010 00 Raiser with Saji Crossroad. He pilots the GNT-0000 00 Qan[T] in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie -A wakening of the Trailblazer-.

Personality & Character[]

Having grown up as a Kurdish child soldier, Setsuna was brainwashed by Ali al-Saachez to murder his own parents, and later cast away when he was no longer deemed useful, Setsuna became taciturn, introverted, and wholeheartedly against war at a very young age. He believes deeply that there are key disturbances that prevent the world from coming together in peace and harmony, to the point of developing a habit of labelling specific people and/or forces as sources of conflict towards the world's path to peace. He has little tolerance for diplomats and politicians, believing that their negotiations only prolong wars and cause more strife. He has got a vendetta to settle and his past battle experiences stir up old bitter feelings, increasing his combat potential as a beneficial side effect. Though a self-proclaimed atheist, he often questions the motivations of God with people and worldly events.

Having been saved by a Gundam when he was about to be killed as a child, he came to view the Gundams as the manifestation of salvation itself. He idolizes the Gundams so much that he wants to embody the Gundam himself, a means to eradicate all conflict. Ever since being saved and recruited into Celestial Being, he has devoted his being to realizing the organization's ideals and would not hesitate to fulfill them. However, Setsuna notes the irony of him being someone who is good at nothing but dishing out violence, despite his earnest yearning for peace nonetheless.

Setsuna is notable for his relationship with Princess Marina Ismail; one of mutual admiration and intrigue, with him finding her total devotion to peace through peaceful means and ability to easily bond with others to be admirable, while she finds his ability to make hard choices and execute them firmly to be strong. As a result, both lingered in each other's thoughts often and like to know each other better. Their interaction however, is easily confused by others around them to be romantic. In a letter to the princess, Setsuna revealed more of his feelings and thinking. Setsuna wanted to understand the lesser aspects of humanity. He wanted to know why the world is filled with people with innate dark intentions and inconsiderate of other people's suffering. He wanted to know why did people keep fighting to live in such a violent world. He wanted to find these answers along with his Gundam in hopes to bring mutual understanding and peace.

Four years after Celestial Being's fall, Setsuna has taken an unofficial role as the leader of the Gundam Meisters. He is now able to assert and express his feelings to people without reservation. Setsuna's ideals are still the same, but his recent experiences have led him to believe in the importance of self-change and the need to fight for a better and brighter future, rather than merely go about eradicating sources of conflicts. His determination and strong self-confidence motivates and inspires people around him. He becomes more understanding and compromising, but he is also capable of making hard-but-necessary decisions that would lead people to dislike him. He has no problems making life-defining decisions for other people when they can't make the choice and would kill if necessary.

After Setsuna became an Innovator, he once again became withdrawn and closed his heart to people once again. The crew members had trouble dealing with his change in attitude, but they did their best to adjust to him because they believe he'll eventually turn around. Sumeragi reasoned it was probably because he had become different from the others among the crew and was confused with his Innovator abilities, which later proved to be true. After the ELS Conflict, Setsuna had since become a friendlier and warmer person in his mission to promote mutual understanding.

Skills & Abilities[]

Setsuna is skilled in many ways of war and fighting. Trained by Ali al-Saachez at a young age, Setsuna already knew how to work with a wide range of firearms, close-quarter-combat, use of explosives, infiltration, and other areas of guerrilla warfare by the age of 10. As CB's Gundam Meister, he uses his former combat training in his KPSA days to reflect Exia's combat style. He's been trained by CB to know some MS technical skills to maintain and repair his Gundam.

4 years after the UN defeated Celestial Being, his MS piloting skills had never dulled at all, enabling him to fight against the newer A-Law models with his damaged Exia. Due to the power of 00 Gundam's concentrated GN particles with Trans-Am Raiser, Setsuna's brain has been gradually enhanced to utilize quantum brainwaves. He's able to sense quantum brainwaves (QBWs) near him and track users of QBWs. Eventually, he naturally evolves into humanity's first true/genuine Innovator.

Setsuna's Innovator capabilities aren't completely defined as he's the first naturally evolved Innovator. It has yet to be revealed if he can communicate with Veda or Celestial Being technology like the Innovades can. He can anticipate movements and actions of his opponents and sense impending danger from far distances. As an Innovator, he has heightened reflexes, a longer lifespan than normal humans, and can communicate his thoughts via quantum brainwaves.

After Setsuna joined the ELS, his body is not entirely human. The ELS reformed his body based on their bio-technology, forever retaining his youthful appearance with a metallic shine. It can be inferred that Setsuna became a hybrid of an Innovator and an ELS.

History[]

Early Days[]

Republic of Krugis[]

Young Soran Ibrahim

Young Soran Ibrahim

Soran Ebrahim (سوران إبراهيم, Suran Ibrahim) was born in the Republic of Krugis in 2291 A.D. where the country is at war with the Kingdom of Azadistan. Throughout his childhood, he had a relatively rough life until he met Ali al-Saachez. Soran and his friends joined the anti-government guerrilla organization KPSA and murdered his parents under al-Saachez's orders to prove his devotion to God. Soon afterwards, Soran was trained in various combat. Once he was trained, Soran would fight in wars, with the KPSA also involved in terrorist missions, including a suicide bombing in Ireland, which took the lives of Neil and Lyle Dylandy's family.

The loss of his friends in the KPSA made Soran disillusioned with the world he lives in. By 2301 A.D., the Republic of Krugis is losing against the forces of Azadistan. A number of MSER-04 Anfs battled against Workloader and small ground forces, consisted mostly of child guerrillas. Soran found himself struggling to survive alongside child guerrillas. Ali al-Saachez's propaganda continued to fuel the conflict. Soran's perspective shifted as he believed there was no God in this world.

Soran is cornered by an Anf with its aim locked on him. Soran was prepared to accept death when suddenly, a pink beam shot the Anf down. Soon, more pink beams rain down on the battlefield, destroying all the Anfs in the area. Soran emerges from his hiding spot to look at the devastation. The boy looks up and sees a mobile suit, GN-000 0 Gundam, emitting a green light shaped like angel wings.[1] Soran was the sole survivor of the battle.

Recruited by Celestial Being[]

Setsuna 2305

Soran became a Gundam Meister with a new name: Setsuna F. Seiei

In 2302 A.D., Soran became a potential Gundam Meister candidate. After successfully passing all tests, he became a Gundam Meister and received the codename "Setsuna F. Seiei." He was assigned to pilot the GN-001 Gundam Exia, a close-combat specialized mobile suit, aboard the CBS-70 Ptolemaios (Ptolemy), which was under the command of Sumeragi Lee Noriega.

Upon joining Celestial Being, Setsuna met the other Gundam Meisters: Tieria Erde, Allelujah Haptism, and Lockon Stratos. Allelujah expressed concerns about Setsuna's age, but Sumeragi assured them that Setsuna's test scores met the organization's standards. When Tieria inquired if Setsuna had been chosen by Veda, Sumeragi confirmed that he was. Lockon emphasized that age was irrelevant because they all shared a common resolve to change the world with their Gundams.[2]

Celestial Being's Armed Interventions[]

First Mission: AEU Orbital Elevator[]

00 Enact 9

Exia defeating the AEU Enact

In 2307 A.D., Celestial Being is ready to commence their armed intervention campaign. For their first mission, Setsuna and Lockon sortied to the Advanced European Union's (AEU) Orbital Elevator in Africa to reveal themselves to the world at the debut of AEU's new mobile suit, the AEU-09 AEU Enact.

During the presentation of the AEU Enact, piloted by Patrick Colasour, Setsuna flies down in the Exia for its first sortie and lands in front of the Encat. The arrogant and cocky Patrick returns in the mobile suit and attacks Exia with its sonic blade. However, the Exia cuts down the Enact which also spares Patrick singlehandedly to demonstrate the strength of CB and deficiencies of the AEU Enact.

Once the demonstration was done, Setsuna proceeds to execute Phase 2 and flies away. In response, the AEU military scrambles its mobile suits: AEU-05/00 AEU Hellion Medium and AEU-05/05 AEU Hellion Perpetuum to intercept the Gundam. Once the Helliums catch up to Setsuna, they engage in combat against the Gundam. They try to fight back, but the Gundam has very high maneuverability that outclasses even the Hellium. Soon afterwards, more reinforcements are arriving from the AEU's orbital elevator, confirming the AEU's violation of an international treaty that regulates the amount of forces stationed inside the orbital elevator.

With additional reinforcements, the Hellium squad are surrounding the Gundam until Lockon Stratos in his GN-002 Gundam Dynames fires sniper shots from the ground below. Both the Exia and Dynames proceed to shoot down all the Helliums. Simultaneously, Allelujah pilots the GN-003 Gundam Kyrios and the GN-005 Gundam Virtue, piloted by Tieria Erde, protects the Human Reform League's orbital elevator from being attacked by terrorists.

Before long, a video recording is released, showing Aeolia Schenberg, who introduces Celestial Being, a private armed organization dedicated to eradicating war, by using force through the mobile weapon, Gundam.[1]

Ceylon Armed Intervention[]

On the deserted island, Setsuna and Lockon were visited by Celestial Being's observer and agent: Wang Liu Mei and Hong Long. They are told that Celestial Being will start their second mission Gundams Exia, Dynames, Kyrios, and Virtue are sent to the old Sri Lanka to intervene between the three-century-old dispute between the majority Sinhalese and the minority faction Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, also known as the Tamil Tigers. The latter is being supported by the Human Reform League, who supply them with Tierens.

Setsuna and Lockon, along with Allelujah and Tieria, rendezvoused and headed for Sri Lanka. Setsuna's past traumas resurfaced, leading him to declare himself a Gundam and engage the enemy ahead of the others. Setsuna flies in and decimated all the HRL forces in the battlefield before dispatching the Anfs in the region while being supported by Dynames.

UnionFlagvsExia01

Exia vs Union Flag.

After destroying all of the forces in the region, Gundams Dynames, Kyrios, and Virtue are heading back while Setsuna slowly catches up. He spots a Union Carrier Plane coming into his radar. The Union transport plane flies by and drops Graham Aker with his SVMS-01 Union Flag. Graham turns the machine into its mobile suit form and pulls out his plasma blade to attack Setsuna.[3]

Graham activates his thrusters to push Setsuna downward, but Setsuna breaks off and knocks away Graham's blade. Graham moves in again and grabs Setsuna's shoulder, but Setsuna pulls away. Graham falls back and fires the linear rifle. Setsuna dodges and uses his beam saber to slice Graham's linear rifle in half. Surprised by the beam saber, Graham breaks off and escapes. Afterward, Setsuna report to Veda.

In a separate intervention, the Meisters were assigned with individual missions. Setsuna was assigned to eliminate the remaining military forces at Ceylon. He destroyed the mobile suits and several military outposts. After Setsuna destroys several Tierens and assumes his mission is complete until HRL Colonel Sergei Smirnov arrives in a Tieren High Mobility Type. Sergei tosses aside his gun and draws his carbon blade, which causes Setsuna to wonder if he's being tested. Sergei charges forward, and Setsuna uses his blade to cut off the arm holding the carbon blade. Sergei then grabs the Gundam Exia by the head and blacks out its cameras. He attempts to rip the head off, but Setsuna uses his beam saber to slice that arm off, as well as the Tieren's leg. Once the Ceylon mop-up was complete, he leaves the area.

Setsuna currently resides in Japan where he meets his neighbor, Saji Crossroad. Saji introduces himself, but Setsuna only gives his name before entering his own apartment.[4]

Taribia Republic Secession[]

Setsuna was put in the park, struggling to adapt to ordinary civilian life and encounters his neighbor, Saji again, and he has brought his girlfriend, Louise Halevy. Meanwhile, the Taribia Republic attempts to lure Celestial Being to their country by announcing secession from the Union and launching an anti-American aggression campaign. Because of this, Taribia is the next target for Celestial Being's armed interventions. Setsuna disembarks to the waterfront and jumps into the water to swim down to his concealed Gundam container to dispatch his Exia.

Setsuna, Lockon and Allelujah arrive at Taribia and head for the country's three major cities, anticipating the manipulation, and launch attacks on Taribia's military forces.

With the Gundams decimating the Tarabian military, the Taribian prime minister was forced to call for Union assistance if they retract their secession announcement, and Union forces are deployed to defend Taribia and engage Celestial Being. Having achieved their objective, the Gundam Meisters retreat from the airspace. Enroute, Setsuna encounters Graham again, but this time, piloting new Flag, the SVMS-01E Graham's Union Flag Custom. They engage in a high-speed battle, with Setsuna eventually escaping underwater, showcasing the Gundams' versatility.[5]

Haunted by the Past[]

Preparing for Moralia[]

One of the world's largest private military companies, PMC Trust and AEU have announced a joint exercise together to challenge Celestial Being. Before leaving for the mission, Saji knocks on Setsuna's door to offer him extra food from Kinue, but Setsuna says he's going out. Setsuna arrives at the uninhabited island and meets with Lockon and technician Ian Vashti, who has come to deliver new equipment Exia's new GN Blades and Dynames' GN Full Shield for the Gundam Exia and Gundam Dynames. Setsuna has no reaction from the new equipment, much to Ian's chagrin. Lockon assures to him that Setsuna is grateful since he admires the Exia. Allelujah, having been released from his containment for disobeying orders, and Tieria, flies down in the island.[6]

Battle at Moralia[]

AEU Enact Ali Al-Saachez Custom Blade Rifle0

Exia vs al-Saachez's AEU Enact Custom

The Gundam Meisters conduct an armed intervention in Moralia, supported by the AEU during a military exercise. They devastate both the Moralian and AEU military presence, with Setsuna using new GN blades to fend off attacking Hellions.

While fighting, a AEU Enact Custom attacks Setsuna. The Enact Custom rapidly fired many shots at Setsuna/Exia, landing several hits but they do little to no damage. Setsuna was surprised that the Enact was reading his moves before al-Saachez announced his expectations through the speakers. Setsuna heard his voice, and to his surprise, he recognizes the voice of his former KPSA leader, Ali al-Saachez.

Setsuna was in disbelief that his former leader is now working as a mercenary. When he fought against the mobile suit, he notices that the fighting style were similar to his formers leader, Ali al-Saachez, having to disarm him of his beam sabers before using one of the GN Blade. Both mobile suits clash, and the GN Blade slices the linear rifle. Saachez falls back, and much to his surprise, Setsuna flashed to the Enact to have the pilot exit the cockpit.

Determined to see if the pilot was al-Saachez, he exited his own cockpit to show the pilot he's serious and Al-Saachez did the same thing. When he was out, Setsuna was angered when he confirmed his suspicions to be true as the pilot of the mobile was Ali al-Saachez. He draws his gun out and Al-Saachez did the same, and just when the both of them were going to shoot each other, Lockon intervenes, preventing a confrontation and forcing Ali to retreat. Setsuna returns to the cockpit just before Lockon begins to chew out on him, but Sumeragi interrupts over the radio and tells them to skip a couple of phases and complete the mission.

This encounter disrupts the mission, prompting Sumeragi to fast-track their plans. The final phase involves destroying Moralia's command center. Setsuna, pondering why Ali works for PMC Trust and what happened to his God. Tieria contacts him and tells Setsuna that if he takes any further unilateral actions, he'll shoot him down. Setsuna asks Tieria if he's willing to lose a solar reactor, and Tieria says he's just protecting the Gundams' secrets.

After they exited out of the canyon, the Gundams eliminate the enemy defenses, prompting Moralia to surrender with a white flare. Celestial Being, uninterested in conquest, withdraws from Moralia.[7]

Tensions among the Gundam Meisters[]

After completing the mission, the Gundam Meisters returned to their island hideout, furious with Setsuna for his reckless actions in Moralia. Tieria punched Setsuna to the ground. He tells him that the identities of the Gundam Meisters are a high S-level confidential secret, same as the solar reactors, and though he demands an explanation for Setsuna's actions, Setsuna offers none. Tieria pulled a gun on Setsuna, considering him a danger to the group due to his actions. In response, Setsuna also drew his gun, asserting his place as a Gundam Meister, citing the fact that he's still alive as the reason for his actions.[7]

La Edenra Terrorism Campaign[]

Shortly after, Ian tells the Meisters that a series of terrorist bombs just exploded in several major cities around the world. Wang calls Lockon and tells him that the unknown terrorists have issued a statement declaring that they will carry out indiscriminate attacks as long as Celestial Being performs interventions. Since the terrorists have instigated a conflict, Setsuna declares that Celestial Being will intervene. As La Edenra commits more terrorist attacks occurred throughout the world, Setsuna and the rest of the Meisters were sent to investigate various areas around the world that were predicted to be the next likely target of attack. Setsuna sortied to Scotland, AEU to anticipate and investigate this terrorist group.

Meeting Marina Ismail[]

Stationed in Scotland, Wang Liu Mei informed Setsuna that a suspect was fleeing from the destroyed building in a brown coupe and Setsuna gives a chase. He was chasing the suspect on a motorcycle and attempted to shoot the perpetrator's coupe, but was stopped by police for his suspicious behavior on the highway. The policeman demanded to know what Setsuna was doing and asked for his ID. Setsuna was going to pull out his gun when Princess Marina Ismail of the Kingdom of Azadistan drove by and used her diplomatic credentials to claim that he was with her party, giving Setsuna the run from authorities.

Marina and Setsuna found a quiet area in a park to chat. Marina was surprised that she had met someone native to her country and asked if Setsuna was from Azadistan. Setsuna monotonously replied that he was from Krugis. Realizing Setsuna's nationality made conversation awkward, and since Azadistan subjugated Krugis, Marina introduced herself and Setsuna gave away an alias, "Kamal Majirif (كمال ماجيريف)"

Marina explained Azadistan's turmoil, torn between Conservative and Reformist parties over the Solar Energy System. Setsuna questioned the use of violence over diplomacy, revealing his identity as a Gundam Meister. He warned that Celestial Being might intervene in Azadistan if the conflict continued, leaving Marina frightened and in disbelief.[8]

Destroy La Edenra[]

Celestial Being was given leaked information regarding La Edenra's operations. These agencies did so because of their limited capabilities to deal with terrorists outside of their own territories. Setsuna receives the message and deploys in the Exia to deal with eliminating one of the terrorist cells in an unspecified oceanfront in a simultaneous attack at 1400 GMT. While the other Gundams destroy the bases around the world, Setsuna pilots the Exia and attacked the La Edenra's ship and sank it. During the elimination campaign, an old underwater mobile armor, the MAJ-03 Shuichai. ambushes the Exia. He was initially surprised that the terrorists had such an old mobile armor with them, but Setsuna managed to destroy the mobile armor.

As Marina continued her political tour for economic and food aid for Azadistan, Setsuna did a flyby with Gundam Exia, right on top of Marina's plane, looking down at her as she looked back up to him and then flew away.[8]

HRL's Operation Gundam Capture[]

After 4 months of armed interventions, Celestial Being decided to run a maintenance and repair check on their equipment and the Gundams in the HRL's geostationary satellite orbit territory. After docking, Setsuna wants to assist with the maintenance, but Ian tells him to get some rest.

Coincidentally, in the same location at around the same time, using the GN Particles' nature of jamming communication device, the HRL launched a large two-way communication system network consisting of hundreds of thousands of small, two-way communication probes to locate Ptolemy. The Ptolemy team discovered the HRL's communication probes too late, and immediately had the Gundam Meisters sortied to prepare for the impending attack by the HRL forces.

Setsuna launches in the Gundam Exia, while Lockon stays on deck with the Gundam Dynames to snipe enemy targets. Lockon shoots at a Laoho and misses, so he concludes that his rifle's calibration is off due to the change in mass of the missing leg. The EDI-402 Laohu fires a volley of missiles, and the Ptolemaios deploys a GN field when Setsuna and Lockon are unable to shoot all the missiles.

The unmanned ship closes in for a kamikaze attack. Lockon destroys the ship with small explosives, but the debris hits the Ptolemaios due to Christina's inaction. 36 MSJ-06II-E Tieren Space Types appear from behind where the Laoho was destroyed. They begin to scatter when Setsuna and Lockon attempt to shoot them. While doing so, Allelujah was captured by the HRL forces after suffering a painful headache due to Soma's appearance in the battlefield. A group of Tierens disperse whenever Setsuna attempts to attack them, and he realizing they're stalling for time. The Tierens continue to play with Setsuna, and another group attack the Ptolemaios, but they're too close for Lockon to snipe.

After taking down nine Tierens , the flagship sends a single flare to order the forces to withdraw from the area after failing to capture a Gundam. Once they left, Ptolemy rendezvous with Tieria and Allelujah, only to find that Tieria has revealed GN-004 Gundam Nadleeh.[9]

Chaos in Azadistan[]

Setsuna wearing turban

Setsuna disguised for the mission in Azadistan.

Imam leader of the Conservatives: Rasa Massoud Rachmadi has been captured by unknown assailants, attempting to escalate the already unstable political situation in Azadistan. Ali al-Saachez had been hired to incite civil war between the reformist and conservative parties, leading to chaos. Celestial Being dispatched Setsuna and Lockon to deal with the crisis.

Hong Long tells Setsuna and Lockon that they're on standby. Lockon asks Wang what she's going to do, and she explains that they have to get Massoud to prevent civil war. Setsuna volunteers to head for the city since he is a native to the country. On the way, he is eyed suspiciously by people on the street. A young boy selling water asks Setsuna if there are really tall towers that go up into space, and Setsuna answers yes. An old man then rudely tells Setsuna to leave because he can tell that Setsuna is Krugis.

When Azadistan army mobile suits launched an unauthorized coup attempt, Setsuna fought and destroyed renegade Anfs heading to the royal palace. Wang calls Setsuna and tells him that renegade Anfs have also launched from the Gazuna base and are on their way. As Setsuna arrives at the Kesh region, he sees child guerillas killed while fighting Anfs and is reminded of his own past.

Setsuna rushes in and destroys three Anfs, but he's too late to save the three child guerillas who were seeking cover. He went berserk and engaged Anfs, but his inability to save the child guerrillas left him frustrated, questioning his ability that he can't become a Gundam.[10]

Massoud Rescue[]

Based on the information that Lockon provided when Azadistan's solar power antenna was destroyed, Setsuna was tasked with investigating the site of the missile's trajectory. Unbeknownst to Setsuna, the Union dispatched their anti-Gundam team to Azadistan, anticipating Celestial Being's presence.

Graham and Billy Katagiri encountered Setsuna while he was investigating the area after the solar receiver's destruction. Setsuna pretended to be a local but carried a weapon. Graham suspected Setsuna's true identity and intentionally shared information about an Enact from Moralia. Setsuna realized Ali al-Saachez's involvement but wondered why.

Setsuna followed his instincts to his homeland, Krugis, where he found Rasa Massoud Rachmadi. Just then, he picks up the signal of a mobile suit nearby. Ali's Enact attacked Setsuna, and a confrontation ensued. Setsuna demanded to know why Ali's war continued, but Ali refused to reveal his reasons. When the Exia slashes Ali's Enact's linear rifle, his opponent kicks him down to the ground. Ali tried to pull Exia's cockpit open, but Setsuna used the GN Long Sword to slash off Enact's right arm, forcing him to flee.

While Ali's men escaped with Rachmadi, Lockon and Hong Long intercepted them using Dynames. Rachmadi was rescued, and Setsuna took him back to the palace where Princess Marina Ismail resided. Celestial Being contacted the palace to inform the princess that they have Rasa in their custody and wishes to return him to the palace. The Exia comes descending from the sky, and lands in the palace grounds, but the mobile suit is bearing no weapons.

The palace's Anfs fired on Exia but couldn't harm it. The Anfs then step aside as Exia continues to advance; inside Setsuna silently says that this time, he will become a Gundam. Once he reaches the palace balcony, Setsuna comes out, then Rachmadi, who is escorted by bodyguards inside. Marina deduces the identity of the pilot being Setsuna and rushes out, asking Setsuna if it is really him. He turns around, telling Marina that what she does next will determine if Celestial Being will come back and to fight for the God that she believes in. With their mission completed, the Exia then takes off. Nearby, Graham decided not to capture Setsuna, fearing international political complications.[11]

Intervention in the Taklamakan Desert[]

A Question of God[]

Setsuna received orders for an intervention in the Taklamakan Desert during a military exercise involving the Union, AEU, and HRL. However, he made a detour to Azadistan first to see Princess Marina Ismail. Setsuna entered the palace and asked Marina about the world's twisted state, whether it was God's fault or humanity's.

Marina believed in God's mercy but acknowledged the world's distortion despite humans' potential to understand each other. Before she could elaborate, Setsuna left. While flying back to Celestial Being, Setsuna contemplated the reasons behind the world's distortion. While flying back to regrouped with Celestial Being, Setsuna continued to think about where and why the world was distorted.[12]

Battle at Taklamakan Desert[]

The Gundam Meisters were assigned to stop terrorists from attacking a nuclear facility while a joint war exercise was taking place nearby involving HRL, AEU, and the Union. They knew it was a trap and might be captured or killed. Setsuna and Tieria removed their Gundam cloaks and prepared to support Lockon and Allelujah. They faced retaliation with a missile barrage, leaving them unable to move. Setsuna and Tieria are unable to move due to the constant barrage of missile fire. Tieria tells Setsuna that he needs 170 seconds to finish recharging his GN particles, and Setsuna says that's too long.

After nearly 15 hours of intervention, the united forces were still besetting the Gundam Meisters. Despite inferior technologies, the superior numbers of 1000 mobile suits were taking a toll on each of the Gundam Meisters, pushing them to the brink of exhaustion. After the united forces stopped their barrage (to allow their ace pilots to capture them), Setsuna and Tieria split up.

Unfortunately, all three of the Gundam Meisters were defeated and captured by the enemy forces. Alone, Setsuna wonders what happened to the other Meisters until he picks up something large on his radar. It is Ali's Enact Custom Agrissa Type docked with the mobile armor Agrissa. Setsuna tries to get away, but he's too exhausted to even fight back before the Agrissa knocks Setsuna into the ground.

Saachez then deploys the Agrissa's legs and activates a plasma field that electrocutes Setsuna and the Exia. As Setsuna screams in agony, he wonders if he'll die and recalls the appearance of the ) Gundam. Suddenly, weapons fire from above hits the Agrissa and forces Saachez to eject his Enact from it as it explodes. Setsuna looks up and sees a GNW-003 Gundam Throne Drei descending in the sky.[13]

Gundam Throne Drei descends over Setsuna, and pilot Nena Trinity asks Setsuna if he's alive. Nena introduces herself and explains that she's also a Gundam Meister, informing him that her brothers are also coming to save the other Gundam Meisters. Elsewhere, Nena's brothers also rescue the other Gundam Meisters,

Nena calls in to report that her mission is complete, and Johann orders her to spread GN particles to the maximum distance and cover their escape. Nena activates the Throne Drei's stealth field and covers the sky with red GN particles. Setsuna and the other Gundam Meisters of Ptolemy were shocked that there were machines that can disperse the GN Particles at a wider range. With the deployment of the stealth field, all communications and video feeds have ceased, giving the Gundam Meisters the chance to escape from the battlefield.[14]

Team Trinity[]

The Meisters were given coordinates to attend a meeting with the Gundam Throne Meisters, the latter agreed to meet on board the Ptolemy. Sumeragi had put Setsuna on standby in case it was a trap. Team Trinity boards Ptolemy without alarm, and Setsuna joins them at the briefing room to meet the mysterious Throne Meisters. Nena Trinity wanted to find out who was the pilot of Gundam Exia, Setsuna then arrived and identified himself. Nena was excited to see Setsuna and went to kiss him saying she liked his recklessness. Setsuna didn't react well to Nena's kiss and shoved her away.

Tensions raised when Michael Trinity came to defend his sister by getting angry with Setsuna and pulled out a sonic blade to Lockon who answered Michael back. Johann Trinity had to control Michael to calm the situation down. The Trinity brothers stayed to continue their discussion, but they gave limited information about themselves, only to explain they were activated because of Ptolemy group's poor performance. After their meeting, Team Trinity returned to their ship and left to attack their first military base, a Union's MSWAD base.

Sumeragi informs the Meisters about the attack on the MSWAD base, but no additional information has been uploaded to Veda. Setsuna wonders if the Trinity siblings are really Meisters.[15]

Team Trinity's Armed Interventions[]

After Team Trinity attacked several military bases worldwide, Sumeragi decided to distance Celestial Being from them due to suspicions about their intentions. The team discreetly dissociated themselves from Team Trinity, but the world assumed the Thrones were part of Celestial Being's MS force. With Team Trinity assaulting military bases, Celestial Being's mission plans had been thrown awry and the Meisters were ordered by Sumeragi to halt all interventions until the time was right. Setsuna's attitude towards the Trinity changed from indifference to hatred as they indiscriminately hurt civilians and used total annihilation tactics in their missions.

Setsuna and his group became more concerned when they discovered that Team Trinity's GN Drives were considered imitations and not real solar furnaces, and the technology is similar to theirs, giving Sumeragi the impression that Veda has been hacked. The last straw for Setsuna was after the Thrones attack the Iris Corporation factory in Illinois USA. It wasn't a military target, but a manufacturing facility for producing war machines, housing no soldiers, but innocent civilians. He took Exia and identified Team Trinity as a source of conflict. Setsuna intercepts Team Trinity in the coast and fires off particle shots at them. Setsuna declares that the Trinity's are spreading war and must be taken out. Setsuna pulls out his GN sword and rushes in to attack.[16]

Michael pulled up his sword to defend himself. Johann tries to reason with Setsuna that they are working to eradicate war, but the young man denies it, declaring they are not Gundams. With no choice left, the Trinity's have to defend themselves. Michaels unleashes his Fangs, which Setsuna quickly destroys with his beam sabers and physical swords. Just as two more Fangs were about to strike him in the back, they were annihilated by Tieria and Virtue.

Deciding to work together, Setsuna and Tieria use special formations that they didn't think they'd ever use. Johann and Nena try linking up, only for Tieria to interfere. But the siblings figure his lack of mobility to strike him, only for his to release the Virtue armor, revealing Nadleeh's Trial system, a system that disables any mobile suit linking with Veda, which immediately shuts down Thrones Eins and Throne Drei. He then prepares to strike, only for the system to shut down unexpectedly. The Thrones regroup, only to be shot at by Lockon and Dynames. To prevent a full fledged battle, Johann reveals Lockon's real name, Neil Dylandy, and his tragic past of his family being killed by a terrorist bombing. He also tells him of Setsuna's identity as a former KPSA member. The Trinity's fly away, but this revelation left Lockon angered at Setsuna for his past involvement with the organization responsible for his family's death.[17]

Confrontation with Lockon[]

Lockon targeting Setsuna

Setsuna held at gunpoint by Lockon.

Back on Celestial Being's secret island base, Lockon demands that Setsuna explain his involvement in KPSA. He confirms it was all true from Johann. In return, Lockon admits that his parents and his little sister were killed in a terrorist bombing by the KPSA. Now that Lockon has confirmed his ties, he points a gun at him.

Lockon wanted a good explanation behind Setsuna's past and a reason not to kill him. Setsuna told him, that he had been trained by the guerrilla Ali al-Saachez, leader of KPSA and explained about the time when he exited out of his cockpit in Moralia was to confirm Ali's comeback. Lockon presses him about his future plans and intentions with Gundam Exia. Setsuna expresses his commitment to their mission to end conflict and his belief in their cause, stating that he wouldn't mind being killed by Lockon as long as the mission continued. Unable to pull the trigger, Lockon lowers his gun.[17]

Operation Fallen Angels[]

The world's superpowers: Union, AEU, and HRL, have been severely weakened by Celestial Being's actions and consider their surrender to them. Then, a Celestial Being traitor, Laguna Harvey, contacted the world powers to collect 30 GN Drives in Antarctica, along with new mobile suits, the GNX-603T GN-X. With these new mobile suits in their hands, the world governments unite their remaining military might as the United Nations Forces, declaring their objective to wipe out Celestial Being in a major military campaign called Operation Fallen Angels.

Watching the news, Lockon is surprised that the appearance of the Trinity's triggered the end of their plan's first phase. However, Tieria states that since all the superpowers have been heavily damaged by the Trinity's, uniting forces won't produce any new results. Setsuna thinks something else is going on, and Tieria feels uneasy because the Trinity's weren't mentioned in Veda, which has been hacked. The three then receive an encrypted message from Sumeragi to return to the Ptolemaios with their Gundams.[17]

After returning to the Ptolemy, Setsuna and the crew watched the news of UN forces repelling Team Trinity from attacking a military base. The Meisters wonder why the Trinity's retreated, and Sumeragi explains that the HRL now has mobile suits equipped with solar reactors.[18]

UN Forces Counteroffensive[]

The UN Forces, equipped with GN-X mobile suits utilizing GN technology, engage in battles against Team Trinity, surprising the Gundam Meisters and the Ptolemaios crew. This development signals a shift in the power balance, as the UN Forces now possess the means to challenge Celestial Being. In anticipation of Veda's compromise, Sumeragi plans for the Gundams to operate with a stand-alone system.

While on standby inside the Exia, Setsuna dreams himself back in the ruined Krugis. Marina Ismail appears, and addressing him as Soran, shows him a blooming flower. She says people are returning to the land and tells Setsuna he doesn't have to fight anymore. Setsuna wakes up from the dream and wonders why he's dreaming about Marina and not fighting.

Subsequently, the Ptolemy comes under attack, leading the Meisters to defend their ship. Despite their individual superiority, the Gundams face overwhelming odds against the numerous GN-Xs and experienced soldiers. Daryl and his wingman attack Setsuna with their beam sabers, and he's barely able to hold them off. As the Gundams fight off against the GN-Xs, all four Gundams suddenly shut down. They didn't know that Alejandro Corner had his assistant Ribbons Almark took control of Veda during their battle and forcibly shut the Gundams down. However, Sumeragi was able to anticipate such an event and switched their Gundams to a Stand Alone Operating System, a new computer system separated from Veda.

As he floats in space, waiting for the GN-X to come and finish him, Setsuna recalls his dream of Marina, but he declines, admitting that he's still alive and tries to move. As the backup system comes online, all the Gundams reactivate, except for the Gundam Virtue. Daryl attacks Setsuna with a beam saber and another GN-X closes in on the other side, but Setsuna tosses a beam dagger through the cockpit, and destroying the mobile suit. Just then, Lasse Aeon flies into the battle in the GN Arms. Setsuna was able to fend off the GN-X's to a tactical retreat, but the battle wounded Lockon and badly damaged Dynames.[19]

The Gundams' New Power[]

Setsuna and the Ptolemy group watched the GN-X Squad battling Team Trinity on the news. They contemplated their potential defeat since the world's combined forces now posed a significant threat to them as part of Aeolia Schenberg's plan. Setsuna questioned the Gundams' purpose in the face of escalating conflict caused by the Thrones and UN Forces.

Lockon proposed ending the conflict between the Thrones and UN Forces, with Ian and Allelujah initially objecting to Setsuna's solo mission to Earth. Despite their concerns, Sumeragi provided Setsuna with a mission plan, and Lasse transported him to Earth using the Assault Container, which also carried the Exia.

Later on Earth, Ali al-Saachez appeared before Team Trinity and quickly killed Michael. He then bypassed the biometric scanner of Throne Zwei and hijacked it. After a brief battle, Ali defeated Johann and destroyed the Throne Eins. Just as he was to destroy Nena's Throne Drei, Setsuna and Lasse arrived. After saving Nena, Setsuna was surprised to hear Ali's voice coming from the Throne Zwei and the two fought. Using his superior piloting skills, Ali disarmed Exia of most of its weapons except for the beam sabers. Meanwhile, in space, Alejandro Corner was putting his final plans into work to control Veda after he killed Aeolia Schenberg. Unexpectedly, Schenberg's system trap activated.

Just as Ali was about to strike Exia from behind, it began glowing red and its speed increased greatly. Setsuna's Exia then knocked down the Throne Zwei. While Ali was temporarily down, Setsuna was amazed at the sudden new found capabilities of Exia. Aeolia suddenly appeared in a brief video to Setsuna and all of Celestial Being to give his blessings in carrying out their will to eradicate conflict with his latest trump card: the Trans-Am System.

Ali tried to attack Setsuna from behind, but Trans-Am was still active, allowing Setsuna to easily evade and counterattack. Setsuna continued to attack from all sides. In desperation, Ali ejected one of the GN Fang containers to block Setsuna's attack and managed to escape. After the battle, Setsuna reported his findings to the rest of the crew and headed back to Ptolemy with Lasse.[20]

Lockon's Death[]

Tieria confronting Setsuna

Setsuna confronted by Tieria after Lockon's death

Setsuna sends a message about the capture of Throne Zwei by Saachez and receives a message from Ptolemy warning of the approaching UN Forces. He and Lasse rush to Ptolemy to assist in combat.

On the way back, Setsuna then questions what does Celestial Being really exists for, and Lasse believes that even if Celestial Being can't rid the world of conflict, their attempt to do so will be engraved in people's minds as they have seen the interventions unfold. Returning to space, Setsuna joins the battle in Trans-Am mode, finding it near its end. After Exia exhausts its GN Particles, Setsuna found Lockon Stratos floating in space. He tried to rescue him, but the damaged GN Cannon nearby exploded and killed Lockon Stratos.[21]

Setsuna was distraught over Lockon's death and screamed for him. He returned to Ptolemy to prepare for another round against the UN Forces. Tieria grabs Setsuna and angrily tells them that their forces were divided because Setsuna went to Earth. He asks why Lockon had to die, and Sumeragi slaps him. She tells him the enemy is out there, so if he has time to cry, he has time to work.

Setsuna hooks up Haro to a video monitor to watch Lockon's last battle and was enraged to see that it was Al-Saachez who killed Lockon. Setsuna wonders if Lockon threw away his life for vengeance, and he recalls his comrades from his guerilla days. He also recalls what Lasse Aeon said and realizes that the point of existing is to use one's own will to carry on the will of the dead and face the world.

Setsuna visits Dynames' cockpit to bid a farewell to Lockon, where Feldt Grace leaves a letter she wrote for Lockon. She asks Setsuna if he has someone to write a letter to, to which he replies that he doesn't. After that the alarms were triggered and the crew had to get ready for battle. To their surprise, a golden Mobile Armor with 7 pseudo GN Drives appeared, the GNMA-XCVII Alvatore. Sumeragi had Lasse and Setsuna break through the UN Forces offensive line to destroy Alvatore.[2]

Last Stand[]

Gundam 00 - 25 - Large 17

Exia vs Alvaaron

As Setsuna and Lasse approach the Alvatore, the mobile armor fires its particle beam cannon, severely damaging the Ptolemaios and the Gundams. The Ptolemaios is ultimately destroyed, resulting in casualties among the crew, including Joyce B. Moreno, Lichtendahl Tsery, and Christina Sierra. All the Gundams were damaged beyond repair, with only their GN Drives intact.

The only team still able to fight was Lasse with the GN Arms, and Setsuna with Exia on board the Assault Container. They blasted the Alvatore with their GN Cannons at full strength, but Alavatore's GN Field was so dense that it repelled any incoming fire. Lasse rammed the Assault Container with its GN Field against Alavatore's GN Field in hopes of penetrating deep enough to damage the mobile armor. However, it didn't work as the mobile armor unleashed its grappling arms, splitting the Assault Container's hull apart. The Assault Container was being ripped in half, and Lasse had to eject from it with Setsuna for combat.

GrahamVs

Setsuna vs Graham again

Lasse and Setsuna team up against Alejandro, but couldn't penetrate the dense GN Field. Alvatore deployed its own GN Fangs against Setsuna. Lasse switched to GN Armor and Setsuna docked for a MA (mobile armor) to MA combat. In GN Armor, Setsuna and Lasse were able to destroy all of Alvatore's GN Fangs and disabled its grappling arms. However, Alejandro severely damaged the GN Armor. Setsuna rammed the GN Blade of GN Armor and disabled Alvatore's GN Field. Lasse is eventually knocked out by an explosion in his cockpit caused by the Alvatore's attack, but Setsuna continues the fight and managed to cripple the mobile armor. As the GN Arms explodes from the accumulated damage, Setsuna and his Exia ejects and proceed to cause massive damage to the Alvatore, finally defeating the mobile armor.

While Setsuna was trying to confirm Lasse's condition, a particle beam was suddenly fired at his direction. The upper section of Alvatore's armor unfolded to reveal a mobile suit, the GNMS-XCVII Alvaaron. Alejandro reveals to Setsuna that he intends to guide the world in a new age, one that Celestial Being won't be in. After exchanging several attacks with the Exia, Alejandro fires the Alvaaron's powerful beam cannon at the Gundam. He then assumes his enemy is destroyed, but Setsuna is able to avoid the attack with Trans Am. Getting the epiphany that he has finally found the world's distortion, he attacks the Alvaaron but its GN Field stands in the way.

Setsuna after final battle

Setsuna wounded after his battle with Graham

Setsuna recalls that Lockon Stratos explains to Setsuna as to why Exia is equipped with a physical sword: it's for counteracting GN Fields; within their plan, they also have anti-Gundam measures, so Setsuna is their trump card. With his GN Sword to his advantage, he strikes the Alvaaron with Exia's swords. Using the Gundam's seven swords, Setsuna defeats Alejandro and his Alvaaron.

Setsuna was confident that it was all over, but then, Graham Aker appeared in his SVMS-01X Union Flag Custom II. Graham's Flag had been heavily modified to adapt to space combat as well as utilizing a GN Tau Drive. Graham charged towards the Exia with a beam saber, much to Setsuna's surprise, proclaiming that he would take revenge for Howard Mason and Daryl Dodge with the GN Flag. Setsuna was surprised to see that it was Graham, the person he had met at Azadistan, and both were surprised to see each in their respective mobile suits.

Graham said that the two of them were destined to fight each other and despite being a interior mobile suit, Graham was able to keep up with the Exia as both opponents cut and slash each other. In the final charge, both opponents severely damaged each other's suits, stabbing through each other's MS chest causing a massive red/green GN Particles explosion. The resulting explosion didn't kill Setsuna, but Exia was heavily damaged. As Setsuna gravitated towards Earth, Marina Ismail was reading a message she had received from him.[22]

Setsuna on the desert

Setsuna survives the final battle and went into hiding.

In the aftermath, Setsuna had survived his battle with Graham and inexplicably decided to go act underground with Exia, possibly because he thought Celestial Being was gone. He did his best to salvage Exia, using Tieren components to supplement his Gundam and continued to monitor the actions of the changing world on his own.[22]

Celestial Being's Return[]

By AD 2312, four years after Celestial Being's fall, majority of the world was governed by the Earth Sphere Federation which was formed through the merger of the three major economic blocs: the Union, AEU, and the HRL. The Earth Sphere Federation not only had a military force, the Earth Sphere Federation Forces, it also had an independent peacekeeping force, the A-Laws. The A-Laws initiated an aggressive campaign of further unification, leading to more conflicts instead of peace. Meanwhile, the defeated Celestial Being spent the four years quietly rebuilding its strength for a comeback.

Space Colony Proud Incident[]

Setsuna's comeback

Setsuna, four years later

Setsuna performed an independent investigation on space colony Proud. He infiltrated the facility through a procured space shuttle and began his investigation. While hiding behind the corridors, he overheard an operation about to commence between federation soldiers. He decided to inquire and chased down the soldier that had just passed his sights. While he interrogates the soldier, the anti-Federation resistance group Katharon began their rescue operation to save their comrades held within Proud and A-Laws engaged them in combat outside the colony.

Setsuna later realized that A-Laws had released automatons into the colony to slaughter everyone within the facility. Understanding the situation was dangerous, Setsuna remotely summoned the GN-001RE Gundam Exia Repair, and then spotted a man pinned down by an automaton and decided to help. He told the man to get down while distracting the automaton with gunfire and threw an explosive to finish the kill-bot. To Setsuna's surprise, the man he just saved was his former neighbor, Saji Crossroad. Both of them were surprised to see each other again, but there was little time to talk as another automaton arrived and they ran for their lives. Setsuna and Saji finally reached an airlock and Setsuna boarded his Gundam.

Setsuna engaged two of A-Laws' mobile suits: a GNX-609T GN-XIII and a GNX-704T Ahead. However, the Exia Repair was no match for the Ahead and just as Setsuna was about to be defeated, he was saved by Tieria piloting the new Gundam: GN-008 Seravee Gundam. Tieria's arrival quickly forced the A-Laws' mobile suits to retreat. Tieria and Setsuna then went back to the airlock where he had left Saji for a chat.

In the airlock, Setsuna was confronted by Saji who questioned if he had always been a Gundam pilot. Setsuna calmly confirmed his affiliation with Celestial Being and his participation in the armed interventions of AD 2307-08. Saji was infuriated because countless people had been killed or hurt by their interventions, including his dead sister Kinue and a PTSD-suffering Louise. Saji then grabbed Setsuna's gun and point it at him, but could not bring himself to fire the gun. Setsuna subsequently decided to bring Saji on board the new Celestial Being tactical mothership, the CBS-74 Ptolemaios 2 (Ptolemy 2), to protect him from the ESF as he had been falsely labeled as a Katharon member. Setsuna later checked out his new Gundam, the GN-0000 00 Gundam.[23]

Old and New Comrades[]

As Celestial Being ramped up its activities, Setsuna headed for Earth to gather more comrades. Firstly, he met with Lyle Dylandy at a park, identifying him as a member of Katharon. Setsuna then introduced himself as a Gundam Meister of Celestial Being, and explained that Lyle's older twin brother, Neil Dylandy, was a Gundam Meister who died four years ago in the final battle against the UN Forces. Before departing, he warned Lyle that security forces would soon attack a Katharon cell in Europe. Shortly after, Lyle accepted the invitation and agreed to rendezvous at the Union's orbital elevator.

Next, Setsuna visited Sumeragi Lee Noriega. She had since quit Celestial Being and was staying at the home of her friend, Billy Katagiri, drinking in depression. As soon as Billy opened the door, Setsuna identified Sumeragi as a member of Celestial Being, giving her no choice but to return with him. He took her to the orbital elevator to meet with Lyle.[24]

Activating 00 Gundam[]

00 Gundam GN Field 01 (00 S2,Ep2)

00 Gundam's debut battle

While returning to the Ptolemy 2 in a shuttle, Setsuna noticed A-Laws' mobile suit teams heading in the mothership's direction. As Tieria headed out in Seravee to intercept one of the two enemy mobile suit teams, Setsuna had Lockon take over control of the shuttle so that he could leave and head straight to the Ptolemy 2 to launch in the 00 Gundam. At that time, Celestial Being was having difficulties activating 00 as its Twin Drive System failed to reach a stable operating level. Despite Ian's objections due to the risk of overloading, Setsuna used the 00's Trans-Am System to forcibly pushed the Twin Drive into the stable operational range. His gambit worked, and the activated 00 easily took out an Ahead and a GN-XIII, causing the enemy forces to retreat. After that, Setsuna accompanied Lyle and Sumeragi to meet everyone on the bridge.[24]

Rescue Mission[]

Rescuing Marina

Setsuna rescues Marina from prison.

Later, Wang Liu Mei informed Ptolemy 2's crew of the whereabouts of Allelujah Haptism, who had gone missing since the defeat by the UN Forces. The crew had a meeting about rescuing Allelujah, but weren't sure of how to infiltrate the highly secured prison where he was being kept.

Sumeragi walked in to confirm the news about Allelujah, but when the crew asked for her tactical forecast, she refused as she felt her forecast was of no use and would only put them in danger. As she left the room, Setsuna told Sumeragi they would not blame her if the tactical plan she provided fail to rescue Allelujah, and added that they just wanted to rescue their comrade. Setsuna's sincere words affected Sumeragi and she soon came up with a bold plan to rescue Allelujah. While preparing for the operation, Tieria gave Setsuna a list of the prisoners held in the prison, and he was surprised to see Marina Ismail's name on it.

Ptolemy 2 descended to Earth, and shot at one of the prison's mobile suit hangars. The ship then dived into the waters near the prison at high speed, causing a tsunami that hit the prison. With the whole prison in disarray, Setsuna and Tieria's Gundams destroyed several gun turrets and mobile suits guarding the facility. Setsuna's 00 then crashed into the side of the building and he proceeded on foot to liberate Allelujah, while Tieria's Seravee stood guard. A distance away, Lyle, as the new Lockon Stratos, provided sniper covering fire with his GN-006 Cherudim Gundam. As the Gundams attacked the prison, Katharon also launched their own mission to liberate their comrades from the facility.

After rescuing Allelujah, Setsuna quickly found and freed Marina, who was surprised to see him. He then took her on board the 00 Gundam, and worked in unison with Tieria's Seravee and Allelujah's new GN-007 Arios Gundam, which was sent from the Ptolemy 2, to destroy several GN-XIIIs that were trying to stop them from escaping. After arriving safely back in Ptolemy 2, Setsuna apologized for dragging Marina into their affairs. Yet, Marina wanted to know why Setsuna continues to fight when he could've chose a different life. Setsuna replied he did not know of any other way to live, and that his wish would only come true through fighting. Marina couldn't help but started crying for Setsuna's way of life.[25]

Azadistan & Katharon[]

In a meeting room with Setsuna, Ian, Tieria, and Lasse, Marina explained that Azadistan, which didn't join the Federation, had been abandoned by the world, and the warring factions have been at a stalemate since Rasa's death. Setsuna then agreed to take Marina back to Azadistan so that she could try to stabilize the country. As Ian and Lasse walk out of the room, Mileina Vashti arrives and asked Setsuna and Marina if they are lovers, but they simultaneously say no, to her disappointment.

Some time after, Setsuna went to check on Marina. She asked Setsuna to come with her to help rebuild Azadistan. Setsuna refused, stating that he, too, used to think nothing could be gained through fighting, but after joining Celestial Being, his views changed and he now believes that he and his Gundam can fight for a better future. Shortly after their conversation, Ptolemy 2 was attacked by A-Laws' underwater mobile armor GNMA-04B11 Trilobite. Setsuna advised Marina to head to the center of the ship for safety before running to the hangar to sortie in 00.

After Tieria's Seravee and Lockon's Cherudim pushed back the Trilobite, Setsuna's 00 closed in and sliced apart the mobile armor with its GN Sword IIs. The 00 then hitched a ride on the Arios to reach the surface faster. Out of the waters, the 00 charged at the A-Laws' aircraft carrier, but was intercepted by GNX-704T/AC Ahead Sakigake. Setsuna soon recognized from the fighting style that the Ahead Sakigake is piloted by Graham, now dubbed "Mr. Bushido." Their fight was interrupted by the sudden appearance of Katharon forces, and the A-Laws decided to retreat.

After the battle, Katharon requested to see Marina and Setsuna followed her to meet the group. At the meeting, Marina learnt that Shirin Bakhtiar was the one who made the request and that she is now a member of Katharon.[26]

Desert Meeting with Katharon[]

In a VTOL Craft, Setsuna, Tieria, Sumeragi, Saji, and Marina travels to a secret Katharon base in the Rub' al Khali desert. As they entered the base, Katharon rebels warmly welcomed the members of Celestial Being, who was then taken to room for a private meeting. Shirin thanked Celestial Being for rescuing Marina and revealed that Katharon intended to take over her care. Setsuna wanted Saji to be taken in as well. Several children run into the room, and Setsuna was reminded of his past. Angrily, Setsuna asks if they're being trained as soldiers. Shirin explains that they're orphans, and Klaus Grad adds that they can only help a few children with their limited funds.

Klaus proposed an alliance between Katharon and Celestial Being to bring down the Earth Sphere Federation government, but Sumeragi declined as Celestial Being has no political goals. Setsuna added that their goal was to eliminate A-Laws, not the Federation. Despite their differences, Klaus says that Katharon is still willing to help Celestial Being, such as providing supplies and maintenance. In the end, Celestial Being did not join forces with Katharon, but Klaus predicted that they would cross paths again in their battles against A-Laws.

While Marina plays with the children and reaches out to a boy who is playing by himself, Setsuna watches and is reminded of his own mother. Saji came and says those kids are Celestial Being's victims too, and Setsuna agrees. Saji then questions why he keeps fighting despite the suffering their actions caused, Setsuna replies that he has his own reasons. Marina then chases after Setsuna and asks him for a favor.[27]

Azadistan Burns[]

After hearing what Marina wanted to say, Setsuna tells everyone he is going to take Marina home. Sumeragi was concerned that a Gundam in Azadistan would caused further harm to the country, so Setsuna suggested taking Marina back using the VTOL craft. Sumeragi agrees and the rest head back to Ptolemy 2 in the Gundams.[27]

As the VTOL craft carrying Setsuna and Marina got closer to Azadistan, the pair were shock to see the country in flames. Realizing that no mere terrorist could do that much destruction. Setsuna spotted a Gundam hovering in the air, and wonders if it is piloted by Ali due to its colors. Upon Setsuna's insistence, the pair flew back to Katharon's secret base, only to find the place devastated by a recent A-Law attack.[28]

Helping Katharon[]

000201367

Setsuna using 00 in Trans-Am mode to sever the left arm of Mr. Bushido's Ahead Sakigake.

In the devastated Katharon base, Setsuna found Tieria next to a crying Saji. Tieria explained that A-Laws attacked the base after Saji carelessly leaked the location to the Federation patrol who found him travelling alone in the desert. Later, in the VTOL craft, Setsuna told Tieria and Allelujah about the attack on Azadistan and the appearance of a Gundam. The Meisters then received news of Sumeragi fainting and were ordered to return to Ptolemy 2.

With the Katharon base destroyed and low on resources, Celestial Being offered food, supplies, and protection to help them relocate to their new base. To give the Katharon members sufficient time to relocate and aware that A-Laws would return to finish the job, Setsuna and the rest of the crew decided to distract A-Laws by allowing the the latter to detect Ptolemy 2's move to the coastline. As they prepare to sortie, Ian warns Setsuna against using Trans-Am, and Setsuna tries to banish his thoughts about the Gundam in Azadistan as he launches. The Gundams soon encountered the A-Laws' forces, with Setsuna and his 00 confronted by Mr. Bushido and his Ahead Sakigake.[28]

The two mobile suit pilots engaged in a fierce duel, but Mr. Bushido gained the upper hand after his Ahead Sakigake sliced apart 00's GN Shields. Setsuna was then forced to activate 00's Trans-Am to evade Mr. Bushido's deadly attack. With the powered up 00, Setsuna severed Ahead Sakigake's left arm and tried to finish off the damaged mobile suit. However, 00's GN Drives suddenly overloaded and mobile suit fell into the waters as it lost power. Mr. Bushido had Setsuna for the taking, but decided to let him off as he wanted an honorable kill and flew off.

The other A-Laws' mobile suit quickly headed towards the downed 00, but they were intercepted by Tieria and Lockon's Gundams. At around the same time, Sumeragi woke up and ordered the Gundams to fall back and ordered the use of smoke rounds to divide the enemy forces. In respond to this move, the A-Laws decided to retreat. The Gundam Meisters were then informed by Feldt that Allelujah and his Gundam had gone missing.

As the 00 underwent repairs, Tieria and Lockon were sent out in their Gundams to search for Allelujah. Ian wasn't pleased with Setsuna for disregarding his warnings, but noted that the Twin Drive System is still working. Ian then has Saji help out in the repairs. Setsuna asked Saji if he is fine with repairing a Gundam since he hated it. Saji replied that he would do anything to help until the Katharon members got away safely. While repairing the 00, Allelujah was found, putting a smile on Setsuna's face.[29] However, Allelujah did not return to Ptolemy 2 alone, he brought with him the defected A-Laws pilot, Soma Peries, who has reverted to her original personality of Marie Parfacy. Marie was Allelujah's childhood friend.[29][30]

The Real Enemy[]

Reunion with Louise

Setsuna reunites with Louise Halevy

In his room in the Ptolemy 2, Setsuna learnt from a news report that Azadistan would be dissolved as part of Federation's Middle East renewal plan and immediately thought of Marina. Later, the Ptolemy 2 crew received a message from Wang Liu Mei that A-Laws' leadership would be attending an exclusive party. Tieria requested to infiltrate the party in a recon mission as he wanted to know their real enemy, and Setsuna volunteered to provide backup. Sumeragi allowed both of them to go, but they had to follow her instructions.

While Tieria joined the party disguised as a fine lady, Setsuna remained on standby outside. He was then approached by Louise Halvey, who was invited to the party as she is one of the primary sponsors of the A-Laws. Setsuna quickly recognized her as Saji's girlfriend and the two had a chat. Louise eventually asked if Setsuna knows how Saji is doing, and he replies that he met Saji coincidentally while the latter was working in space. Louise was glad to hear that Saji had achieved his dream. Setsuna then noticed she had a prosthetic left forearm, and recalled Saji mentioning that Louise was injured due to Celestial Being's activities.

While Setsuna was trying to tell Louise that Saji still thought about her, she suddenly suffered terrible headaches and cried out in pain. Billy Katagiri, who also attended the party and was leaving, heard Louise's cries and went over to help. Billy then recognized Setsuna as a member of Celestial Being and called security, causing Setsuna to flee.[30]

Facing Ali al-Saachez Again[]

As the two Gundam Meisters return to Ptolemy 2 in their Gundams, Setsuna apologized to Tieria for screwing up, but Tieria brushed it aside and revealed he found the source of the twistedness in the world. Just then, the Gundam from Azadistan, GNW-20000 Arche Gundam, appeared before them. It is piloted by Ali al-Saachez, confirming Setsuna's suspicions. Tieria's Seravee dropped out of the sky after being hit by Arche's GN Fangs, leaving Setsuna's 00 to engage the Arche in a one on one duel. As the two mobile suits locked blades, Ali revealed that half of his body was burnt during the defeat four years ago and now he wanted to kill Setsuna as "payment" for his regeneration treatment.

Setsuna tried to shoot down the Arche, but Ali managed to close in and strikes with his GN Buster Sword, sending the 00 flying backwards. Tieria then joined the battle, firing both of Seravee's GN Bazooka IIs, but Ali evades the beams before slicing apart the beam firearms. The two then fought in close combat with their hidden GN Beam Sabers, with Ali emerging the winner. Setsuna's 00 and Tieria's Seravee subsequently attacked the Arche from both sides, but Ali block their melee attacks with the Arche's GN Buster Sword and GN Beam Saber. Ali then shot at both Gundams using Arche's GN Fangs, causing them to fall back. As Ali was about to finished them both, Arios and Cherudim arrived and fired at the Arche. Aware that the odds were against him, Ali quickly retreated.

In the Ptolemy 2's meeting room, Setsuna told Saji about meeting Louise and wondered why the two have not contacted each other. Before Saji could give a full reply, Lockon entered the room with Tieria, and upon learning that Ali was his brother's killer, Lockon wanted to know more about what happened. After learning the truth, Lockon laughed and noted that there is no point avenging the death of his family since it occurred over 10 years ago. Setsuna then revealed he was a former member of KPSA, the terroist group responsible for the death of Lyle's family. If he had stopped his comrade then, Neil wouldn't have become a Gundam Meister. Lockon calmly replied it would not change anything, the events then were inevitable. He added that rather then dwelling on the past, it is better to focus on fighting for the future.[31]

Back to Space[]

In the bridge, Sumeragi called for preparations to be made for a return to space, and predicted the A-Laws would launch a deadly operation within 12 hours to destroy them. She added the final destination in space is Lagrange 3 where they could fully repair the Gundams and pick up the new support machines.

A while later, Setsuna approached Tieria to find out why he had not given his report to Sumeragi. Tieria explained he was still organizing his thoughts, and Setsuna asked what he meant earlier by the twistedness in the world. Tieria was about to reply when the alarm sounded due to six approaching Trilobites, and the two Gundam Meisters quickly headed to the MS hangars. As the Ptolemy 2 begins its rapid ascend to the water surface, Setsuna is displeased that they are leaving while the Middle East is in chaos.

Despite the A-Laws' underwater and aerial attacks, the Ptolemy 2 successfully headed into space due to Sumeragi's tactics. However, the ship's ascend angle was altered due to a beam shot from the GNZ-003 Gadessa, and the ship was soon ambushed in space by an A-Laws' space cruiser and its MS team. Fortunately, the ambush was within Sumeragi's expectation. Two of the enemy MS was shot down by Setsuna and his 00, which had earlier launched from the Ptolemy 2 during the ship's atmospheric exit. Setsuna then set his sight on the space cruiser and sinks it with two powerful V-shaped blasts from 00's GN Sword IIs, promoting the remaining enemy MS to retreat.[31]

A Brief Fight[]

While checking on 00's systems, Setsuna flashbacks to Azadistan burning and Ali's reappearance, and thinks that nothing has changed. Suddenly, the Ptolemy 2's e-sensor detected an enemy mobile suit approaching at high speeds, and Setsuna immediately launched in his 00 to intercept it. Detaching its booster units, the GNZ-005 Garazzo charged at the 00 and easily dodged the latter's beam shots. Setsuna noted the new enemy machine's maneuverability and wondered if it is a new model. He then fired more shots and was surprised when Garazzo deployed its GN Field to block them. The Garazzo launched its counterattack, firing its GN Vulcan at 00, before closing in and striking with its GN Beam Claw. Setsuna raised the 00's GN Sword II to block the attack, but the sword was sliced apart when Garazzo combined the five beam blades of the GN Beam Claw into a large GN Beam Saber.

Setsuna was shocked, but he quickly recovered and attacked with the other GN Sword II. The Garazzo evaded the attack and then kicked the 00, causing Setsuna to remark that he needed the Trans-Am System. The Garazzo closed in for another attack, but was forced to move aside due to beam fire from Cherudim and the Ptolemy 2. In the ship's bridge, Tieria was unsettled by the enemy machine being stronger than the 00. The barrage of beam fire soon caused Garazzo to retreat, and Sumeragi subsequently ordered the Ptolemy 2 to head for Lagrange 3 at top speed. She also surmised that this attack was to show A-Laws' deployment capability and their new MS's power - it was a check and a warning. Lasse then noted they now need the support machine, the GNR-010 0 Raiser, more than ever.[32]

Testing 00 Raiser[]

After Ptolemy 2 arrived at the Celestial Being's secret asteroid base in Lagrange 3, the crew were introduced to Linda Vashti, Ian's wife and Mileina's mom, and the multi-talented Anew Returner, a new CB member scouted by Wang Liu Mei. However, they have no time for further pleasantries due to A-Laws' presence in the area, and immediately began work on resupplying and repairing the Ptolemy 2 and the Gundams.

Setsuna and some of the Ptolemy 2 crew were later introduced to two new support machines: the GNR-101A GN Archer for Arios, and the GNR-010 0 Raiser for 00. Linda explained the 0 Raiser incorporated special functions to help control 00's Twin Drive System and can amplify the Trans-Am. Ian then suggested testing the 0 Raiser and Setsuna readily agreed. After the 0 Raiser docked with 00 to form the GN-0000+GNR-010 00 Raiser, Setsuna activated Trans-Am as Ian wanted to test 0 Raiser's control system. To everyone's shock, the 00 Raiser's GN Particle output exceeded the theoretical limit. Unbeknownst to those involved in the test, the GN Particles released by 00 Raiser in Trans-Am mode affected those with quantum brainwaves: Marie somehow senses a danger approaching her father-like figure, Sergei Smirnov, Allelujah experienced a terrible headache followed by the reawakening of his other personality Hallelujah, and Tieria had a strange feeling.[32]

00 Raiser returned to its normal state after its Trans-Am reached the time limit, and when this occurred, Marie, Allelujah and Tieria were all at a lost about what they had just experienced. Back in the testing room, Ian noted they had not expected such particle output from the Twin Drive System, while Setsuna remarked that the 00 Raiser had the power to change the world.[33]

The Innovators[]

After the test with 00 Raiser was completed, all the Ptolemy 2 crew gathered in the ship's bridge for an urgent meeting. Celestial Being's observation system had detected the firing of a laser by the Earth Sphere Federation's satellite weapon, the Memento Mori. With the Kingdom of Suille devastated by the laser, Sumeragi ordered the Ptolemy 2 to attack and destroy the satellite weapon once all the repairs are completed. Immediately after she gave the command, Tieria decided to reveal the existence of a secret group manipulating the Federation in order to control the world - the Innovators. Tieria had met members of the group while the Ptolemy 2 was on Earth, once while searching for the missing Allelujah and a second time during the A-Laws' party.

From Tieria, the Ptolemy 2 crew learnt that Innovators are living terminals created by Veda, that they are in possession of Veda, and are the true masters of A-Laws. The Innovators were also responsible for Team Trinity and their actions, and they were also the ones who provided the UN Forces with the GN Drive Taus and GN-Xs. Tieria explained he hesitated telling the crew about the Innovators as the secret group claimed that they are following Aeolia's plans. Sumeragi and Allelujah found the Innovators' claim to be absurd, and Setsuna vowed to eliminate both A-Laws and the Innovators. The others concurred, and did not blame Tieria for hiding the truth.[33]

Battle of Lagrange 3[]

As the Ptolemy 2 crew made preparation to depart for their mission to destroy the Memento Mori, Setsuna learnt that Saji wanted to stay on the ship to help in non-violent ways. Suddenly, the Celestial Being's asteroid base was attacked by missiles from A-Laws' space cruisers. While 00, Cherudim, and Seravee went ahead to engage the enemy mobile suits, Arios was ordered to escort the transports carrying the base's non-combatants to a safe location. Setsuna and his 00 tried to intercept a group of mobile suits heading towards the Ptolemy 2, but was trapped in a electrically charged gas cloud set up by the enemy, leaving Seravee and Cherudim to stop the enemy forces. Setsuna and his 00 later broke free from the trap, and quickly came under attack from a team of three mobile suits, comprising the GNX-704T/SP Ahead Smultron piloted by Louise, a GN-XIII and an Ahead. Setsuna and his 00 were able to fend off the three enemy machines until the arrival of the 0 Raiser.

Setsuna was surprised that the support machine was piloted by Saji instead of Ian. Nevertheless, Setsuna called for the two machines to dock and the red-colored Haro in the 0 Raiser's cockpit initiated the docking sequence. The GN-XIII attempted to stop them, but was knocked back by the 00. Louise and her Ahead Smultron then rushed forward, but was forced back when Setsuna threw 00's GN Beam Saber (in GN Beam Dagger form) at it. After 00 and 0 Raiser successfully docked to form the 00 Raiser, Setsuna charged at the enemy mobile suits . The 00 Raiser evaded beam shots from Louise's Ahead Smultron, increased its speed and dodged the GN-XIII's beam fire, and then circled an asteroid before slicing apart the Ahead that was pursuing it moments ago. The 00 Raiser then sped away, leaving the Ahead Smultron and GN-XIII behind. Bring Stabity, a member of the Innovators, then attempted to intercept the 00 Raiser using his Garazzo. Setsuna activated the Trans-Am System in response, and unexpectedly, this generated a quantum space around the 00 Raiser, causing Setsuna and Saji to hear the voices of people nearby. Louise is also in the quantum space, and she and Saji are shocked to learn the other is fighting for the enemy.[33]

Power of 00 Raiser's Trans-Am[]

Despite not understanding what is going on, Setsuna continued fighting and rushed towards the Garazzo, causing Louise to exit from the quantum space. Thus, Saji and Louise were unable to explain their situation to each other. The 00 Raiser clashed with Garazzo, and pushed the latter back with its Trans-Am enhanced thrust. Bring then forced 00 Raiser away using the Garazzo's other GN Beam Claw, before firing at it with a GN Vulcan. Setsuna evaded the beam shots and counterattacked with a diffuse beam shot from the GN Sword II. Setsuna's attack destroyed the Garazzo's visor and eye cameras, he then took the opportunity to close in and kicked the enemy. Setsuna quickly followed up by firing the GN Sword II in rapid-fire mode, destroying the Garazzo and forcing Bring to escape in the Core Fighter.

With 00 Raiser's output enhanced due to Trans-Am, Setsuna fired several powerful shots and took out four GN-XIIIs. Setsuna then heard the voice of Revive Revival, the Innovator pilot of the Gadessa, due to the quantum space, and headed to stop Revive's plan to attack the Ptolemy 2. As 00 Raiser approached, Revive entered the quantum space and heard Setsuna's voice. Just then, Setsuna sliced apart the asteroid the Gadessa was on using the GN Sword IIs' GN Beam Saber Mode. Revive managed to escape and fired the Gadessa's GN Mega Launcher at 00 Raiser, but failed to hit it. The 00 Raiser then charged at the Gadessa, but Revive was ready and attacked with a GN Beam Saber. At first glance, Revive seemed to have stab the 00 Raiser, but it quickly turn out to be an illusion, the real 00 Raiser had disappeared.

The 00 Raiser then suddenly appeared on the Gadessa's left, forcing Revive to sacrifice the GN Mega Launcher to avoid being slashed by the GN Sword II. Revive counterattacked with the Gadessa's GN Beam Saber, but the 00 Raiser disappeared again. It then reappeared shortly after behind Gadessa, and sliced apart the enemy MS, causing Revive to eject in the Core Fighter. The 00 Raiser's Trans-Am mode ended, and an exhausted Setsuna wondered what just happened. Before he could give the matter further thought, Saji detached the 0 Raiser from 00 as he wanted to look for Louise, but the support machine did not move further after that.

In his base, Ribbons Almark, now the leader of the Innovators, was unsettled by 00 Raiser's quantization ability. Back on the battlefield, the A-Laws forces retreated and Sumeragi had the Gundams assumed defensive positions around the Ptolemy 2. Some time after the battle ended, Setsuna finds a depressed Saji in a room near the 0 Raiser's hangar. Saji told Setsuna about hearing Louise's voice, he then blamed Celestial Being for killing Louise's parents and causing her to join the A-Laws out of a desire for revenge. Setsuna reasoned that the only way to save Louise is by fighting, but his words only enraged Saji, who then punched him and left. Lockon overheard their conversation from outside, and walked in to advise Setsuna that he could have put his words in a nicer way. Lockon noted that Setsuna was trying to atone for a past mistake, but Setsuna corrected him and said it was for the future.[34]

Destroying Memento Mori[]

After the Memento Mori fired a second time at Earth, Sumeragi gave the orders for Ptolemy 2 to head towards the satellite weapon at top speed using the Gundams' Trans-Am once the ship's repairs are completed. Upon hearing this, Saji attempted to leave in the 0 Raiser as he wanted to meet Louise again, but stopped when he realized he was making the same mistake as he did in the desert. In the room overlooking the 0 Raiser's hangar, Setsuna saw what happened but did nothing.

While the Ptolemy 2 was still a distance away from the Memento Mori, the satellite weapon fired a third time, decimating a part of the Katharon space fleet that was gathering in space to attack the weapon. Setsuna was then sent out in the 00 Raiser to inform the Katharon fleet on Celestial Being's intention to destroy the weapon and to assist the fleet in their fight against the A-Law forces guarding the weapon. At the same time, Setsuna also asked Katharon for their data on the weapon. Soon after, Setsuna and his 00 Raiser became the target of a second Gadessa, piloted by the Innovator Hiling Care.

After evading a powerful long-range shot from Hiling's Gadessa, Setsuna returned fire with his own long-range shot using the 00 Raiser. Setsuna and his 00 Raiser then kept Hiling and her Gadessa occupied as the Ptolemy 2 charged straight at Memento Mori. Following Sumeragi's plan, Ptolemy 2 and the other Gundams successfully destroyed the satellite weapon. With the mission completed, Sumeragi ordered the Ptolemy 2 and 00 Raiser to retreat. Upon receiving the order, Setsuna immediately stopped fighting and headed to the rendezvous point with Ptolemy 2. However, Hiling continued to pursue and fired at the 00 Raiser with its GN Vulcans. Suddenly, several red beam shots were fired at the Gadessa, distracting Hiling. Seizing this opening, Setsuna turned the 00 Raiser around and attacked the Gadessa, severing its right arm before escaping.[35]

Meeting Ribbons Almark[]

Setsuna 2312

Setsuna reached the rendezvous point with Ptolemy 2, but the ship was not there. Instead, he found damaged pieces of the Ptolemy 2 floating in the area. He was then approached by Nena Trinity's GNW-003/SH Liang, and perceiving Nena to be a possible threat, he aimed the 00 Raiser's GN Sword IIs at the Liang. To stop Setsuna from attacking, Nena said she was the one who helped him escaped from the Gadessa earlier on. She also informed Setsuna that the Ptolemy 2 fell to Earth following an attack by enemy forces, and provided him with data that would help him find his ship. After obtaining the data, Setsuna immediately headed for Earth, leaving Nena behind.

While trying to find where the Ptolemy 2 had landed on Earth, Setsuna came across Ali's Arche and quickly followed it. Setsuna tried to shoot down the Arche, but Ali evaded the shots. Setsuna then discovered that Ali is leading him to the remains of the former Republic of Krugis. A while later, Ali's Arche began landing and Setsuna followed suit in the 00 Raiser. After both mobile suits landed, Setsuna left the 00 Raiser's cockpit to confront Ali. Ali confirmed Setsuna's suspicion that he was working with the Innovators and said that his sponsor wanted to meet him. He then introduced Ribbons Almark to Setsuna. Ribbons referred to Setsuna as Soran Ebrahim, and revealed he was the pilot of the 0 Gundam that saved a young Setsuna 11 years ago, greatly shocking setsuna.

Ribbons explained that the armed intervention then was a performance test of 0 Gundam. Although Ribbons was supposed to eliminate all witnesses to maintain secrecy, he spared Setsuna's life on a spur of the moment as the latter was staring at the 0 Gundam, and by extension Ribbons himself, with admiration. Ribbons further revealed it was him who used Veda to recommend Setsuna as a Gundam Meister. Ribbons then asked Setsuna to hand over the 00 Raiser as that was the mobile suit he was supposed to pilot. Setsuna refused and pulled out his gun to shoot Ribbons, but Ali quickly intervened and shot Setsuna, injuring him in the shoulder. Setsuna then immediately returned into the 00 Raiser.[36]

Surpassing Ali[]

Even though he was in great pain and still bleeding from his wound, Setsuna battled Ali. After blocking several blows from Ali's Arche, Setsuna and his 00 Raiser were surrounded by the Arche's GN Fangs. Amazingly, the injured Setsuna dodged the GN Fangs' all-range attacks, shot down two of the remote-controlled weapons, and even sliced off Arche's left leg after evading the latter's GN Beam Saber attack. Even Ali was surprised that Setsuna could fight so well despite his injury. The tide of the battle later turned, with Ali being on the defensive, pressed by Setsuna's attacks.

Ali then spotted an airplane carrying members of Katharon and decided to use them as hostages. Setsuna responded by activating 00 Raiser's Trans-Am and kicking Arche away from the plane. Ali launched the GN Fangs to attack Setsuna, but he easily evaded all their beam shots, before destroying them all with a large beam blast jointly fired from 00 Raiser's GN Sword IIs and GN Beam Machine Guns. Setsuna's 00 Raiser then charged at Ali's Arche, cutting off its right arm, and stabbing its right thigh. Just as Setsuna was about to deliver the killing blow, he suddenly heard Marina calling out his name and a song being sang by her and the orphans she was caring for. This caused Setsuna to pause, and Ali took advantage of it to escape in the Arche's Core Fighter as the mobile suit exploded due to the damages and fell into the waters below.[36]

In Marina's Care[]

Setsuna wounded

Setsuna being helped by Marina

00 Raiser arrived at the relocated Katharon desert base, which was nearby, and Setsuna was greeted by Marina after he left the cockpit. Losing consciousness due to the blood loss from his injury, Setsuna collapsed to the floor before Marina catches him and calls for medical treatment.

Setsuna had a dream were he finds himself in Krugis. He then sees his younger, brainwashed self ready to shoot and kill his parents in the name of God. Setsuna stops his younger self, stating that there is no God and that he is only causing more violence. He takes away the gun and thrusts his younger self into his parents' arms, before running outside. He then sees Neil, who says that the only thing in the past that can be changed is how he feels about things in the present. Setsuna then hears his younger self killing his parents and the gun he snatched is gone. As his younger self exits the house, Neil asks Setsuna to change in place of him. A patched up Setsuna then wakes up in a room, hearing the song the orphans are singing and seeing Marina next to him. Setsuna asked about the song the children were singing and Marina said she wrote it based on the children's wishes.

Despite being in pain due to his injury, Setsuna got up and Marina said that although the bullet was removed, the base doesn't have any cell regeneration equipment. She reminded him of the letter he gave her four years ago, that he was looking "for answers and a path where people can understand each other". She then wanted to know more about Setsuna, and the children left as they decided to give them some privacy. Upon hearing about Setsuna's past, Marina now could finally understand why he hated wars. In return, she told Setsuna that she grew up in a normal home and her love for music, but due to her bloodline, she was chosen to become the princess and ruler of Azadistan. Setsuna remarked that making music suited her more than being a princess. Marina replied that she might be forcing herself too hard, and that the same can be said of Setsuna.

Just then, Ikeda walked in to inform Setsuna that Ptolemy 2 had received supplies from Katharon's European branch. After hearing news of his comrades, Setsuna decided to go find them, and Marina helped him to the MS hangar. Before entering 00 Raiser, Setsuna requested Marina to allow him to hear the children sing the song he heard earlier the next time they meet. Setsuna then injected himself with a painkiller and left the Katharon base.[37]

Coup d'état[]

Setsuna later received information from Katharon that a Coup d'état launched by a faction of the Earth Sphere Federation Forces had occurred in the Orbital Elevator in Africa, and decided to go there as he believed the Ptolemy 2 will also be heading there.[37]

Trans-Am Vs. Trans-Am[]

Masurao vs

Setsuna and 00 Raiser vs Mr. Bushido and Masurao

As Setsuna approached the Orbital Elevator, he encountered Mr. Bushido's new mobile suit, the GNX-U02X Masurao. Mr. Bushido immediately attacked Setsuna's 00 Raiser and said he knew Setsuna would be here upon learning of the coup. The 00 Raiser then forced the Masurao back as Setsuna explained that he doesn't have any time for this. To gain Setsuna's attention, Mr. Bushido revealed Masurao's secret feature: The Trans-Am System.[37]

Setsuna was shocked to see Masurao using Trans-Am and did his best to fight against it, but his injury affected his ability to fight back. As the Masurao was about to penetrate the 00 Raiser's GN Field with its pair of beam sabers, Setsuna finally decided to activate 00 Raiser's Trans-Am. As the two mobile suits crossed blades in a high-speed duel, their pilots had an exchange on their purpose in life: Mr. Bushido simply lives to fight and surpass the Gundams, while Setsuna said that he used to live for battle as well, but now he's changed. Their battle was then interrupted by the arrival of the Ptolemy 2 and the other three Gundams. Additionally, with the Masurao running low on GN Particles, Mr. Bushido had no choice but to retreat.

The other Gundams approached the 00 Raiser, and their pilots quickly realized something was off with Setsuna due to his weak voice. The 00 Raiser then fell seemingly due to Setsuna being too exhausted, and Lockon and Allelujah hurried over to support the 00 Raiser with their Gundams. In the 00 Raiser's cockpit, Setsuna recalls Neil telling him to change in place of him, and vows to reform himself.[38]

Break Pillar Incident[]

The Ptolemy 2 crew discovered that the A-Laws planned to stop the coup in the Orbital Elevator by attacking the structure with a second Memento Mori, putting the lives of people in and around the structure in danger. Tieria wondered if the Innovators were orchestrating this event from the behind the scenes. Not long after, a battle broke out around the base of the Orbital Elevator, with the Earth Sphere Federation Forces on one side and the escaping coup forces and their Katharon allies on the other. Seravee, Cherudim, and Arios also joined in the battle.

In the Ptolemy 2, Sumeragi wanted to head into space to stop the satellite weapon, but Ian objected due to the ship's poor condition. Setsuna, appearing better after being treated in the ship's medical bay, suggested using the Trans-Am Raiser (a name given to 00 Raiser in Trans-Am mode due to its peculiar abilities). While Sumeragi expressed concerned about his body conditions, she was also aware that Trans-Am Raiser was indeed the only thing they had that could destroy the second Memento Mori, and so agreed to Setsuna's suggestion. Ian asked who would be the 0 Raiser's pilot, and Setsuna offered the role to Saji. Saji was shocked and unsure, but was convinced when Setsuna explained that they were fighting to protect the 60,000 people in and around the Orbital Elevator. Setsuna also noted that the chance of success was low, but he refused to give up without trying.

Upon ascending to a suitable altitude, the 00 and 0 Raiser were launched from the Ptolemy 2, the two machine then combined into the 00 Raiser. The 00 Raiser flew up further before stopping and aiming both its GN Sword IIs at the second Memento Mori. Setsuna then had Saji activate the Raiser System, and as the system began charging, Saji detected an enemy unit - the mobile armor, GNMA-Y0001 Empruss, piloted by the Innovator Divine Nova. 00 Raiser engaged in a shooting battle with the Empruss, but was caught by the mobile armor's Egner Whips and electrocuted. While in pain due to the electric shock, Setsuna remained concerned about the Raiser System's charging progress, and once the charging was completed, he activated Trans-Am System and the Trans-Am Raiser released a huge beam from the GN Sword IIs.

The beam from Trans-Am Raiser overpowered the Empruss' GN Shield, bisecting the mobile armor and killing Divine, and continued to extend towards the second Memento Mori. At first, the beam seemed to have missed its target, but this beam turned out to be a gigantic beam saber and Setsuna had Trans-Am Raiser moved it to cut into the satellite weapon. Several explosions rocked the second Memento Mori, but Trans-Am Raiser was unable to sustain the beam blade long enough to finish the job. As Setsuna cried out for A-Laws to not fire the weapon, a laser shot out from the satellite weapon and hit the Orbital Elevator, triggering the auto-purging of the structure's outer walls to regain stability. This caused the fighting around the base of the Orbital Elevator to stop as all forces gathered there, including the A-Laws' ground forces, worked together to destroy the falling outer wall pieces so as to protect the civilians in the area. The 00 Raiser also descended to help.[39]

Consequences[]

The Break Pillar Incident was labelled by the government as a terrorist attack by anti-Federation forces, and the second Memento Mori was falsely said to have stop the complete collapse of the Orbital Elevator. Four months after the incident, repairs to the Orbital Elevator enabled it to resume its power supply functions, and the Earth Sphere Federation Forces was placed under the command of the A-Laws to prevent further terrorist attacks. At the same time in space, Celestial Being, which had remained silent for the past four months to recover their fighting strength, resumed its activities. The Ptolemy 2 crew launched an attack on the second Memento Mori, with the Cherudim, Seravee and Archer Arios (a combination of Arios Gundam and GN Archer) opening a path for 00 Raiser and keeping the defending A-Laws forces occupied. Once Saji finished with the adjustments in the 0 Raiser's cockpit, Setsuna changed 00 Raiser into the Trans-Am Raiser and successfully used its gigantic beam saber, the Raiser Sword, to destroy the satellite weapon.

After the mission, Setsuna headed to the medical bay of the Ptolemy 2 for further checkups. The bullet that wounded him on Earth was laced with poisonous GN Particles from the GN Drive Tau, and these particles caused cellular regeneration defects in the areas around the wound. However, Anew noted the spreading of the cellular defect was much slower than expected when compared to Lasse, who was also afflicted with the same condition due to his exposure to the poisonous GN Particles during the defeat by UN Forces four years ago. Anew added that something was suppressing the damage in Setsuna's body. Meanwhile, Setsuna attributed his injury as being a scheme by the Innovators to obtain the 00 Gundam. He then concluded that the Innovators did not have any information on the Twin Drive System, making his 00 the Celestial Being's trump card.[40]

Locating Veda[]

Later in the Ptolemy 2's bridge, the crew watched the news of A-Laws taking over the Earth Sphere Federation Forces. Feldt then said that they were attacked by the A-Laws over 20 times in the past four months, and Lasse remarked that the enemy somehow was able to know their exact locations at all times. Tieria then reminded Sumeragi that they once discussed about taking back Veda after concluding that the Innovators were using the quantum processing system to control information. However, they have no idea where Veda is. Setsuna then suggested "asking" someone who knows Veda's whereabouts, in other words, capturing an Innovator.[40]

Innovator Capture Operation[]

Fighting for Louise

Setsuna extending his hand to Saji as they agree to look for Louise together

Some time later, the Ptolemy 2 came under attack by the A-Laws. As Setsuna headed to the MS hangar, he was approached by Saji. Saji said that he spotted Louise's machine among the enemy forces and asked if Setuna would shoot her down. Setsuna replied it was up to Saji to decide, and added that he believed fighting not only causes destruction, but could also create things. Saji said that he could not pull the trigger and would keep trying to reach out to Louise, and Setsuna was fine with all these. He then extended his hand to Saji, saying that they would look for Louise together, and Saji agreed to it. As the Gundams headed into battle, each of their pilots privately said the one thing or person they were concerned about, and Setsuna simply muttered "Gundam".

As 00 Raiser battled enemy units, Setsuna told Saji to keep an eye out for Louise's machine. 00 Raiser was then attacked by Revive's Gadessa, and Setsuna immediately informed Tieria to come over and capture the Innovator. 00 Raiser was later confronted by Hiling's Garazzo, and in the midst of the battle, Setsuna was informed by Saji that two meteoroids were approaching Ptolemy 2. To end the fight, Setsuna switched to Trans-Am Raiser and blasted both of Garazzo's arms off with two large beams. He then had the Trans-Am Raiser sped towards the Ptolemy 2. The two meteoroids were an Ahead and Louise's Ahead Smultron in disguise, and as Lasse was about to fire GN Missiles at them, the Trans-Am Raiser arrived, and everyone was stunned to hear Setsuna and Saji telling them not to fire. Setsuna then stated that he is not a weapon or a destroyer, and that he and his Gundam will change, while Saji reached out to Louise through the effects of the quantum space generated by the Trans-Am Raiser. knocking away the Ahead, the Trans-Am Raiser grabbed the Ahead Smultron and flew off. In the Ptolemy 2's bridge, Milenia said that the GN Particle output of the Trans-Am Raiser was seven times the normal amount, and Sumeragi noted Setsuna's yearnings.

Saji and Louise had a chat in the quantum space, but Saji failed to convince Louise to leave A-Laws. Louise then had a mental breakdown due to recalling her parents' death and her injury. At the same time, the Ahead finally caught up to the Trans-Am Raiser and Ahead Smultron, forcing Setsuna to release the Ahead Smultron and back off. The Trans-Am Raiser soon reached its operating time limit and reverted to the normal 00 Raiser, causing Setsuna to retreat to Ptolemy 2. Elsewhere, Tieria successfully captured Revive using the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam, which hidden as Seravee's backpack. After the battle, in the Ptolemy 2, Setsuna found Saji in a room with the lights switched off, but he did not know what to say. As Setsuna prepared to leave, Saji said he would fight to bring Louise back, but in his own way. Setsuna simply looked at him and say nothing.[41]

Innovator Deception[]

Shortly afterward, Setsuna, Sumeragi, and the rest of the Gundam Meisters arrived at another room to interrogate Revive about Veda's location. While Revive formally introduced himself and talked to them, he was secretly communicating with Anew, the Innovators' sleeper agent, through quantum brainwaves. As a result, Anew awakened to her true identity, and changed the ship's course.[41]

Back in the room, Revive refused to divulge Veda's location, but he did say that Aeolia's true goal was for the dialogues that are to come, puzzling Setsuna, Sumeragi and the other Meisters. Revive further disclosed that he had allowed himself to be captured, and just then, Feldt called and informed Sumeragi that Anew had shot Lasse and taken Mileina hostage. Revive stood up to leave, and Setsuna pulled out his gun to stop him. Revive then said he could not guarantee Mileina's safety if they harm him, and revealed that he can mentally communicate with Anew. After Revive leaves, the shipboard system shuts down, trapping the Gundam Meisters and Sumeragi in the room.

After freeing themselves, Setsuna suggested splitting into two groups to search for Mileina while Sumeragi returns to the bridge. As Lockon wondered where to begin, Setsuna seemingly had a location in mind. Setsuna and Lockon then found Marie, now in the Soma personality, in a stalemate with Anew holding Mileina at gunpoint. Lockon then agreed to defect to Anew's side, and Setsuna immediately took the cue to shoot at him using Soma's gun, causing Anew to let go of Mileina due to her love and concern for Lockon. This gave Lockon an opportunity to grab and shield Mileina. Setsuna had a clear shot of Anew, but she ran away before he could shoot. Lockon then complained to Setsuna that he did not have to hit him for real. Anew then escaped using a shuttle while Revive hijacked and leave in the 0 Raiser.

Setsuna and Lockon launched in their Gundams, with the Cherudim grabbing onto 00 and using Trans-Am to catch up to the two Innovators. Not long after, Setsuna and Lockon caught up and flanked the 0 Raiser. Revive wondered if they intend to damage the 0 Raiser, and Setsuna said that was not necessary as they have a brilliant tactical forecaster. The Red Haro hiding behind the 0 Raiser's cockpit seat then revealed itself and bounced around the cockpit to distract Revive before landing in its docking port to initiate the 0 Raiser's docking sequence with 00. With the 00 Raiser formed, Revive discovered that all of 0 Raiser's controls have been transferred to 00's side, so he used a machine gun to destroy the cockpit system before escaping in Anew's shuttle that had arrived to pick him up. Due to the damage to 0 Raiser's cockpit, Setsuna lost control of 0 Raiser's output and control of the 00 Raiser as well. It was up to Lockon to stop the Innovators, but he could not bring himself to shoot at her shuttle.[42]

Anew's Death[]

Setsuna bloodied by an enraged Lockon

Eventually, the Innovators returned to finish off the Ptolemy 2 and take the 00. With the 0 Raiser under emergency repair, the 00 Raiser could not be formed, so Setsuna had to wait as the rest headed out to face the enemies. The Cherudim, Seravee, Arios and GN Archer battled Revive's Gadessa, Hiling's Garazzo, Anew in her GNZ-007 Gaddess, and Louise in the mobile armor GNMA-0001V Regnant. The battle then split into two different fights: Lockon against Anew in one side, and the rest in the other. Revive and Hiling's mobile suits later broke through to attack Ptolemy 2, with Seravee, Arios and GN Archer prevented from pursuing as they were immobilized by the Egner Whips from Louise's Regnant.[42]

Ian soon finished the repairs to 0 Raiser, enabling Setsuna to shoot down Revive and Hiling's mobile suits using the 00 Raiser, causing them to flee in their Core Fighters. The 00 Raiser then launched from Ptolemy 2 and fired at the Regnant's Egner Whips from afar using the GN Sword IIs, freeing Seravee, Arios and GN Archer. Louise responded by firing at the 00 Raiser, but Setsuna evaded the shots and returned fire. Louise deployed the Regant's GN Field to block 00 Raiser's shots, so Setsuna threw one of the GN Sword II at the GN Field. As the GN Sword II slowly penetrate through the GN Field, Setuna shot at the weapon using the other GN Sword II, destroying it and damaging the Regnant.[43]

Setsuna then saved Lockon with the Trans-Am Raiser, killing Anew as he destroyed the Gaddess with a single shot. Back on board Ptolemy 2, Lockon repeatedly punched Setsuna in anger and grief until he broke down. Setsuna simply stood there and did not retaliate even though he was bloodied. Marina's song was echoing in Setsuna's head.[42]

Change[]

Later, Saji asked if there were other ways beside killing Anew, and Setsuna replied it was the only way. He added that Anew was not herself by then, and when Saji questioned why he was so sure of it, he could not explain this feeling of his, but was certain of it. Had he not acted then, Lockon would be dead. Setsuna then revealed Anew's situation was the same as Louise, in which he sensed that something had taken ahold of her. Saji remarked that Setsuna's recent behaviors had been odd, as if something had changed. As the room's lights went off as part of the shipboard system check, Saji was surprised to see Setsuna's eyes glowing.[43]

Eclipse Space Colony[]

Once the system check was completed and power was restored, Feldt discovered the ship had earlier received an urgent coded message to rendezvous at Lagrange 5 (L5)'s Eclipse, an unfinished space colony. Setsuna was adamant that they go to Eclipse, and Ian was also in favor as they could pick up new equipment being developed in L5. Additionally, they could repair the Gundams while travelling to L5. Sumeragi then had Setsuna and Saji launched in their machines to meet the mysterious messenger in Eclipse, while Ptolemy 2 took a detour to draw the A-Laws' attention.

After a few days, Setsuna and Saji reached Eclipse using the 00 Raiser. As Setsuna could not enter the colony in the mobile suit, he transferred its control to Saji as he ventured inside Eclipse on foot. With a gun in hand, Setsuna moved towards the designated point in the colony cautiously. He later found an injured Wang Liu Mei waiting for him. She was the mysterious messenger and she passed him a note that contained the coordinates to Veda. She told Setsuna to recover Veda immediately, and warned that if the Innovators found out what she had done, they would move Veda elsewhere. Setsuna understood and offered to take her off the colony, but she declined, saying she would be fine to put his mind to rest.

As Setsuna exited Eclipse, he was shocked to see the 00 Raiser being held to a blade by another mobile suit, the GNX-Y901TW Susanowo. Standing atop the Susanowo's cockpit hatch is the unmasked Mr. Bushido, who said that it has been four years, and this caused Setsuna to recall his encounters with Graham in AD 2307 to 2308. Graham threatened to destroy 00 Raiser if Setsuna refused his demand. Setsuna was surprised when Graham replied that he wanted an honorable duel. In Eclipse, another Innovator Regene Regetta was watching, and although he worked under Ribbons, he also had his own plan and was the one who had Wang Liu Mei passed Veda's location to Setsuna. Regene wondered if Graham's presence here was Ribbons' doing.[43]

Duel at Eclipse[]

Innovator Setsuna

Setsuna awakening as a true Innovator

After finding out Graham's reason for wanting a duel, Setsuna thought to himself that Graham was another person whose life was twisted by Celestial Being's activities four years ago. Setsuna then accepted Graham's challenge, and took back control of 00 Raiser from Saji.

00 Raiser and Susanowo charged at each other and locked blades. They then pulled away and Setsuna noticed Louise's Regnant fighting with Nena's Throne Drei nearby. He wanted Louise to stop as revenge solves nothing, but was kept occupied by the Susanowo, and could only watch as the Regnant destroys the Throne Drei. Graham was dissatisfied that Setsuna was distracted and called for him to concentrate on their duel as his Susanowo kicked the 00 Raiser. Setsuna then refocused on the duel, fired a few shots at Graham, and evaded his Susanowo's Tri-Punisher attack. After crossing blades several more times, both Setsuna and Graham found they were evenly matched, so they activated Trans-Am simultaneously. Watching the two mobile suits in Trans-Am clashed, Regene noted that it was time for Setsuna's "awakening".

Setsuna and Graham soon found themselves in the quantum space generated by the Trans-Am Raiser. Graham wondered if he was in Nirvana, and Setsuna clarified that they were in a place where the quanta converged together. Graham was puzzled by Setsuna's answer and Setsuna continued on that he finally understood why Aeolia created the GN Drives. He explained that the armed intervention was in preparation for this, that Aeolia's goal was to guide humanity to reformation. He then said he would reform himself and his eyes began to glow brightly.[43]

Graham asked if reformation was the ultimate mystery Setsuna mastered, and noted his own desire was to simply fight Setsuna. The two pilots then somehow exited the quantum space. As their duel continued, Setsuna disagreed with Graham's single-minded pursuit of victory. Combining Trans-Am Raiser's two GN Sword IIs into the Twin Lance mode, Setsuna said one should fight for a tomorrow that linked people to the future, and thrusted the Twin Lance, with a beam blade at the front end, at Susanowo. Graham blocked the attack and disarmed 00 Raiser of its Twin Lance. He then brought down the Susanowo's Souten for the final blow, but Setsuna had 00 Raiser caught the blade with its bare hands and broke it with a twist. Setsuna then drew out both of Trans-Am Raiser's GN Beam Sabers and stabbed the Susanowo's shoulders, causing explosions that took out both of the machine's arms.

A defeated Graham wanted Setsuna to kill him, but Setsuna refused, saying that his way of fighting is to live for tomorrow. He urged Graham to do the same, and departed, leaving Graham behind to think things through. Setsuna then asked Saji about Louise's Regnant, and Saji said it had retreated as he could not detect its signal. Back in Eclipse, Regene commented that Setsuna had awakened as a true Innovator, and that the powers he obtained hold the fate of humanity.[44]

Veda's Location[]

Based on the coordinates Setsuna received from Wang Liu Mei, the Ptolemy 2 crew found that Veda was located in the dark side of the moon in Lagrange 2. Zooming in onto that location using the ship's super long-range camera, the Ptolemy 2 crew could not see anything. Sumeragi had Mileina superimpose the star map over the location, and discovered the stars' positions were off, indicating something was being hidden by optical camouflage. Further analysis showed that the hidden object had a diameter of 15km. Just then, a lab transport ship carrying new equipment for the Gundams approached the Ptolemy 2.[44]

Battle at Lagrange 2[]

While Ian and Mileina left the meeting and inspected the new equipment, the other members of Ptolemy 2 continued their meeting and detected A-Laws gathering their fleet at the same coordinates as given by Wang. This meant that the location contained Veda and the Innovators' stronghold. Setsuna said they would break through the A-Laws fleet to recover Veda, before turning to look a Saji, who said he would go as he wanted to fight his own battle. Soma then said she would be joining them, and each of the Ptolemy 2 crew gave their own reason for participating in the battle. Setsuna ended by saying they would change, otherwise they would never face the future. The Ptolemy 2 then departed for Lagrange 2 once the resupply was completed.

Receiving flower form Feldt

Upon arriving at Lagrange 2, Sumeragi ordered everyone to their battle stations. As Setsuna headed to the MS hangar, Feldt gave him a container with a desert flower inside that was grown by Linda in the lab. She wondered if Marina would be upset, but Setsuna declared that he doesn’t have such a relationship with her. He then continued on his way to the hangar and promised Feldt he would return safely. As the 00 entered the catapult, Setsuna asked if Saji was fine with participating in the battle, and Saji replied he wanted to find the future like Setsuna. The 00 subsequently launched and docked with Saji's 0 Raiser to form 00 Raiser for the final time.[44]

Confronting A-Laws' Fleet[]

Upon detecting the Gundams' launch, the A-Laws fleet deployed their advance force. Setsuna sliced apart an Ahead using the 00 Raiser's new GN Sword III and noticed 3 A-Laws space cruisers charging towards Ptolemy 2. He then took out the ships using the Raiser Sword as per Sumeragi's command, but upon their destruction, special particles that diminished the effect of particle beams were released into the battlefield, creating a large anti-field.

With their trap in place, the A-Laws launched their main force equipped with bazookas and missile launchers, intending to overwhelm the Gundams with superior numbers. Since particle beams were useless in the anti-field, the Gundams had to rely on their limited GN Missiles and melee combat. The A-Laws' tactic worked, and several mobile suits flew past the Gundams to attack the Ptolemy 2. Just when things looked bleak, the Katharon forces arrived in the nick of time to help. Due to the effects of the anti-field, the physical projectile weaponry of Katharon's outdated mobile suits proved effective against the A-Laws' mobile suits, and they took out many enemy units.

The A-Laws' misery was compounded when their space cruisers group at the rear was attacked from behind by the remnants of the Earth Sphere Federation Forces' coup faction. As the combined might of Celestial Being, Katharon, and the Coup forces tore the A-Laws fleet apart, Setsuna broke through the anti-field in the Trans-Am Raiser, and sunk the A-Laws' flagship with a powerful beam shot from the GN Sword III.[44]

Afterwards, Setsuna continued to battle, and remarked that the Innovators had yet to appear. With the A-Laws on the brink of defeat, the Innovators entered the battle. Setsuna had an ominous feeling about an incoming attack and broadcasted a warning to everyone to evade. Soon after, a large and powerful beam was fired at the battlefield, taking out mobile suits and ships regardless of affiliation. As the battle came to a stop due to the sudden attack, the Innovators decloaked their base, revealing the huge colony-class deep space mothership, the Celestial Being. The Gundams and the Ptolemy 2 then headed for the ship to recover Veda.[45]

Breaking into Celestial Being[]

Numerous gun turrets on the surface of the Celestial Being fired at the Gundams and Ptolemy 2 to stop them from approaching. Additionally, the Innovators fired their powerful cannon a second time, but all these attacks did not slow down the Gundams or the Ptolemy 2 as they took out more than half of the gun turrets facing them. The Innovators then deployed a horde of GNZ-004 Gagas that immediately activated their Trans-Am System for a suicide charge at the Ptolemy 2. The Gundams did their best to intercept the Gagas, but they were simply too many. A number of Gagas broke through the Gundams' defensive fire and crashed into the Ptolemy 2. The lab transport ship accompanying the Ptolemy 2 tried to shield the tactical mothership, but it was futile and the former was quickly destroyed.

The Ptolemy 2 was then saved again by the Katharon and the Coup forces. With cover fire from its two allies, the Ptolemy 2 escaped from the Gagas and accelerated towards a warship docking bay of the Celestial Being. After Ptolemy 2 crash landed in the docking bay, Allelujah and Soma stayed behind to protect the ship from the Gagas, while the other Gundam Meisters spread out to break into the enemy mothership.

The 00 Raiser was about to enter the mothership when it was attacked by the Regnant. As 00 Raiser dodged several shots from the Regnant, Saji begged for Louise to stop but to no avail. An Ahead accompanying the Regnant joined in the attack, but 00 Raiser quickly forced it back by shooting off its right leg. After making short work of the Regnant's GN Fangs, the 00 Raiser engaged in close combat with the mobile armor.[45]

Saji again tried to convince Louise to stop her attack, but she was hell bent on seeking revenge and fired several GN Micro Missiles at the 00 Raiser. The 00 Raiser intercepted some of the missiles and evaded the rest, it was then attacked by the Ahead again, but once more, the Ahead was no match for the 00 Raiser. Immediately after, the 00 Raiser was caught and electrocuted by the Regnant's Egner Whips.

When the Regnant's beam shot was blocked by the immobilized 00 Raiser, Louise had the mobile armor bear hugged the mobile suit so that three approaching Gagas would crash into them. Louise was so intent on defeating the 00 Raiser that she was wiling to die for it. In desperation, Saji fired the 0 Raiser's GN Micro Missiles at the Gagas, destroying two of them, but the remaining Gaga crashed into the Regnant, triggering an explosion. A while later, Setsuna awakened Saji, who was knocked unconscious by the explosion, and had him carry Louise away to safety. He then turned the 00 Raiser around to face Hiling's Garazzo and Revive's Gadessa.[46]

Activating Trans-Am Burst[]

Setsuna easily held his own against the two Innovators, forcing them to activate their mobile suits' Trans-Am System to gain an edge. This caused Setsuna to activate 00 Raiser's Trans-Am so that he would not be outmatched. As Setsuna battled the two Innovators using Trans-Am Raiser, the quantum space effect of his mobile suit caused him to become aware of the desperate situations his comrades were in. He then resolved to save his comrades, and as his eyes began to glow, the cockpit system detected the change and activated the hidden Trans-Am Burst System. As a result, the Trans-Am Raiser released a flood of purified GN Particles that engulfed the entire Celestial Being.

In Trans-Am Raiser's cockpit, Setsuna declared that to create the future, humanity has to change. The purified GN Particles pushed back Garazzo and Gadessa, and also disrupted their pilots' quantum brainwaves. Through Veda, Regene revealed to Hiling and Revive that the release of purified GN Particles caused by a true Innovator's quantum brainwaves working together with the Twin Drive could expand peoples' consciousness, and that this was proof that Setsuna had evolved into a true Innovator. The various effects of the purified GN Particles helped Setsuna's comrades turned the tide in their respective battles or established an understanding with their enemy. These particles also returned Louise to her normal mental state, and Saji described the purified GN Particles around them as "the light of Setsuna's heart, a light that illuminates the future".[46]

Aeolia's Plan[]

Following the disabling of all the Innovators' mobile suits that were linked to Veda by Seraphim' Trial System, Setsuna broke into Celestial Being with the 00 Raiser. He then had Red Haro look after the 00 Raiser so that he could travel to Veda's room on foot. In the room, he found Tieria's lifeless body floating in zero gravity. As he vowed to avenge Tieria's death, Tieria's voice echoed in the room, explaining that his consciousness is now linked with Veda. He then told Setsuna being linked to Veda allowed him to learn many things, including Aeolia's plan.

According to Tieria, the purpose of Celestial Being's armed interventions was to force the world to unite, even if it comes at the cost of the organization's demise. This unity of humanity's will was to prevent mankind from taking the seeds of war into outer space. Unless humanity changes, it would be incapable of weaving a future for itself, and people need to be ready for dialogues with other species they would eventually encounter. Having learnt of Aeolia's true intention, Setsuna left Celestial Being to return to Ptolemy 2 and remarked that humanity has to understand each other. On his way back to Ptolemy 2, Setsuna witnessed the Seraphim shot down by beam fire. He then looked around and found Ribbons' CB-0000G/C Reborns Gundam in its Reborns Cannon form. As the Reborns Gundam did not receive support from Veda, it was unaffected by the Trial System.[46]

Setsuna vs Ribbons Part 1[]

Ribbons told Setsuna to show him some gratitude for what he had done for him. Setsuna then accused Ribbons of pretending to be God, but Ribbons claimed that he is God. Ribbons believed that the mankind would not stop fighting and would destroy itself unless he controlled it, and called himself its savior. Setsuna asked if Ribbons doesn't want to work with and understand mankind, and Ribbons compared what he’s doing to how humans rear and used animals, and felt that beating a true Innovator such as Setsuna would cement his own worthiness. Setsuna then said Ribbons' ego was the source of the world's twistedness and vowed to destroy the world created by him. Both Setsuna and Ribbons then charged at each other in their Gundams.

The 00 Raiser was bombarded by multiple beam shots from the Reborns Cannon, preventing Setsuna from closing in. Furthermore, the Twin Drive System was still recharging. After evading and cutting apart the Reborns Cannon's Egner Whip, Setsuna found an opening and closed in for a melee attack. To Setsuna's surprise, the Reborns Cannon drew out its Large GN Beam Saber to deflect 00 Raiser's GN Sword III. The Reborns Cannon then transformed into its Gundam form, the Reborns Gundam, and Ribbons also revealed that his mobile suit had a Twin Drive System.

The two mobile suits locked blades, but the 00 Raiser was eventually pushed back, and had its right leg shot off as Reborns Gundam changed into Reborns Cannon. Setsuna then evaded more shots from Reborns Cannon before closing in for another melee attack, but Ribbons saw through it and sliced off a part of 00 Raiser's right side binder. Hiling's Garazzo and Revive's Gadessa, now without Veda's support, joined in the battle, but the odds were soon even out when Allelujah and Lockon's Gundams arrived to support Setsuna. Allelujah took on Hiling, while Lockon kept Revive busy. Allelujah later defeated Hiling, but was in turn defeated when he tried to attack Ribbons. Ribbons deployed a few of the Reborns Gundam's Small GN Fin Fangs to attack 00 Raiser, but Setsuna was able to destroy them all, impressing Ribbons.

The Ptolemy 2 then fired at the Reborns Gundam to support Setsuna, angering Ribbons who switched to Reborns Cannon and used its beam fire to cripple the ship. The Ptolemy 2 fired smoke shells at the Reborns Cannon, and Setsuna made use of the smokescreen to close in for another melee strike. However, Ribbons reacted quickly, and intercepted the 00 Raiser using the remaining Small GN Fin Fangs. Despite losing 00 Raiser's left forearm to a Small GN Fin Fang, Setsuna continued his attack and sliced off Reborns Gundams' right forearm. This made Ribbons wonder if this was the power of a true Innovator. Elsewhere, Lockon defeated Revive, but his Cherudim also suffered heavy damage and could no longer fight.

As Setsuna and Ribbons continued their duel, Ribbons demanded Setsuna to return the 00 Raiser's two original GN Drives, but Setsuna refused. Through Veda, Tieria's consciousness contacted Ribbons to correct his misconception on his role. Tieria stated that the Innovades' role was not to guide humanity, but to create a future together with mankind. With Ribbons distracted, Setsuna landed several shots on the Reborns Gundam. Ribbons then activated his Gundam's Trans-Am System as he rejected understanding humans, who he deemed to be inferior. In response, Setsuna also activated 00 Raiser's Trans-Am as the Twin Drive System was fully recharged.

Setsuna destroyed two of the Large GN Fin Fangs launched from the Reborns Gundam, but lost Trans-Am Raiser's right side binder and head in the process. Placing the last Large GN Fin Fang before him, Ribbons charged at Setsuna. Setsuna used the Trans-Am Raiser's quantization to evade the Fang's attack, and reappeared next to the Reborns Gundam. Although Ribbons tried to move away, it was too late, the Trans-Am Raiser made a large slash across the Reborn Gundam's back. In retaliation, Ribbons severed the Trans-Am Raiser's left arm and the base unit of the left GN Drive. The two mobile suits were then separated as explosions rocked each machine.[47]

Setsuna vs Ribbons Part 2[]

Setsuna was knocked out by the explosions, and when he woke up, he saw a mobile suit approaching him. Meanwhile, despite his Reborns Gundam being heavily damaged, Ribbons escaped with 00 Raiser's left GN Drive and came across the GN-000 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.), which was discarded by Lasse after its Large GN Condenser ran out of particles. After fitting the GN Drive onto the 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.), Ribbons set out to finish Setsuna. He then found the 00 Raiser's wreckage and noticed its right GN Drive was missing. Looking around, Ribbons spotted the GN-001REII Gundam Exia Repair II.

With the Exia Repair II, Setsuna charged at Ribbons' 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.) while evading several beam shots. The two mobile suits then collided and crashed onto the moon. With a carefully aimed shot, Setsuna destroyed the 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.)'s Beam Gun, and Ribbons retaliated by punching the Exia Repair II several times. Setsuna managed to catch one of the punches, and then had the Exia Repair II threw the 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.) onto the ground. Setsuna quickly followed up by thrusting one of Exia Repair II's GN Beam Sabers at the 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.). Ribbons barely dodged the attack, which left a vertical gash on the 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.) 's cockpit area. Ribbons then counterattacked by slashing the Exia Repair II with his Gundam's Beam Saber, causing a horizontal gash on Exia Repair II's cockpit area.

Both pilots then prepared for the final strike. Setsuna had Exia Repair II switched its GN Sword Kai into Sword Mode, and held the weapon in front of the Gundam. He also activated the GN Drive's Over Boost Mode. As for Ribbons, he discarded the 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.)'s GN Shield and increased the output of its Beam Saber. After a brief pause, both Gundams charged at each other. Ribbons stabbed the Exia Repair II in the torso, to the left of its cockpit, while Setsuna plunged the GN Sword Kai directly into the 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.)'s cockpit. The 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.) then exploded, sending the Exia Repair II into space and knocking Setsuna unconscious.[47]

A New Peace[]

A new Earth Sphere Federation government headed by a new president disbanded the A-Laws, and announced a new policy for global peace, as well as the provision of aid to non-member nations. Despite the critical role Celestial Being played in defeating A-Laws and the Innovades who called themselves Innovators, they were still classified as a threat to the government and the Earth Sphere Federation Forces would respond if they took any actions. Near some snow-covered mountains, the Ptolemy 2 took off into space, and in the bridge, Setsuna said they could not rest yet as they still have unfinished work. Feldt and Sumeragi voiced their agreement. Setsuna then silently vowed that even if the world rejects Celestial Being, they would continue to confront it and act as a deterrent for the world.[47]

ELS Conflict[]

Two years has passed since the battle against the ELS and the Innovators. Setsuna along with CB has remained hidden in the shadows as they continued to monitor the peace and unity of Earth under the new ESF administration. Meanwhile, unknown to everyone, an unknown entity had travelled to the Solar System and assimilated with the remains of a wrecked space probe near Jupiter.

Quiet Intervention[]

Setsuna Flag

Setsuna piloting a Union Flag Celestial Being Version

Both Setsuna and Lockon were tipped off by Veda about an assassination attempt by the Colony Public Corporation against Princess Marina. While Lockon goes ahead, Setsuna sorties towards the L-3 Colony SOE to intercept them. To avoid public suspicion that this is a CB operation, Setsuna used the CBNGN-003 Union Flag Celestial Being Version for the mission.

At the SOE, the Colony Public Corporation begun to make their move on Marina. Before they could kill Marina, Setsuna and Lockon arrived to save her. Setsuna intercepted the Colony Public Corporation's GN-XIIIs with his Union Flag Celestial Being Version, and defeated them using his inferior mobile suit thanks to his abilities as an Innovator. At the same, Lockon infiltrated the space shuttle carrying Marina and took advantage of the shooter's hesitation to disarm him. After completing the mission, Setsuna parked the Union Flag Celestial Being Version next to the space shuttle to pick up Lockon, and then quickly left.

Unusual Occurrences[]

In the CBS-742 Ptolemaios 2 Kai, Feldt reports that the ESF Forces is preparing to destroy a space probe heading to Earth. Under Sumeragi's inquiry, Feldt reported the space probe came from Jupiter. Setsuna got curious and wanted to know if there was detailed data on it, but there wasn't any; Feldt intends to investigate further.

Later, CB was informed by Veda that remnants of an entity from the destroyed space probe had landed on Earth and were attracted to people who possessed Quantum Brainwaves (QBWs). Realizing the potential danger to their super soldier comrades, Setsuna decided to investigate and retrieve them. Lockon tagged along and the two split up: While Lockon set out for Mongolia with the GN-002RE Gundam Dynames Repair, Setsuna took off in GN-001REIII Gundam Exia Repair III and went to the HRL elevator, Heaven's Pillar, to investigate the string of reported attacks.

First Encounter[]

In a hospital, Saji and Louise were attacked by a strange man, but Setsuna arrived and fired a warning shot that cracked the man's helmet. When he finally saw the attacker's face, Setsuna was shocked that the man resembled Ribbons Almark. Setsuna wondered why Ribbons was still alive. Because Setsuna had stronger QBWs, "Ribbons" redirected his attention towards him.

As "Ribbons" kept walked towards Setsuna, he was partially overwhelmed by the enemy's QBW interference. Undeterred, Setsuna fired multiple shots at "Ribbons", hitting both his thighs, abdomen, heart, and even head, but the enemy was unfazed and kept coming after him. Setsuna resorted to using a plastic explosive, vaporized everything above "Ribbons" waist, but the bottom half kept moving until it toppled over and shattered into tiny metal-like fragments. Setsuna left the couple on their own at a QBW isolation shelter, and regrouped with Lockon, who had rescued Allelujah and Marie from Mongolia. The Meisters then returned to Ptolemy 2 Kai.

Unraveling the Mystery[]

In the Ptolemy 2 Kai, Sumeragi briefed everyone about the updates from Veda. The "Ribbons" that Setsuna encountered was actually a crew member of Europa named Sky Eclipse. Europa was the manned Jupiter probe that left Earth about 130 years ago. Feldt elaborated that the probe's research mission was a cover for creating the GN Drives; having Innovades like Ribbons-types aboard wasn't uncommon.

The crew surmised that extraterrestrial beings somehow made contact with Europa and assimilated Sky's body. Sumeragi continued that assimilations similar to Europa's are also happening on Earth. When Allelujah asked what the aliens are trying to do, Sumeragi admitted she doesn't know and was not even sure if they're sentient. Just then, Ptolemy 2 Kai's alert system sounded and Mileina reports something is approaching them.

When Mileina showed everyone what the incoming ship looked like, Lockon wondered if it was an ESF cruiser, but Setsuna feels it's something else. Sumeragi then had Mileina match the ship with all known ships within their database and discovered it was the Europa. The crew was in shock as they confirmed the destruction of Europa just earlier; Setsuna decided to sortie with the Gundams to investigate.

Unable to Fight[]

Setsuna sortied in the GN-0000RE+GNR-010 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type, Lockon in the GN-010 Gundam Zabanya, and Allelujah and Marie in GN-011 Gundam Harute. Before launch, Sumeragi gave a quick review to Setsuna about the 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type, and warned him not to overstress the machine as it was equipped with particle storage tanks in place of the lost GN Drives. As the Gundam Meisters closed in on Europa, the ship suddenly launched hundreds of smaller alien probes at them. Attracted to QBWs, the aliens targeted Harute and 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type because of their pilots. Due to QBW interference from the aliens, Setsuna was unable to fight properly and forced to make evasive maneuvers. Ineffective in battle, Setsuna tried to make a run for it, but the aliens gave chase.

After numerous dodges, 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type's left arm was eventually hit by the aliens. As the aliens began to assimilate the mobile suit, Setsuna cried out in agony as his mind was overwhelmed by the aliens' QBWs. Just as other alien probes headed for the 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type, they were intercepted by beams fired from two large remote weapons. The remote weapons subsequently changed into claws and ripped off the mobile suit's assimilated left arm, before destroying the severed arm and freeing Setsuna from his agony. It was then revealed that the remote weapons belonged to another Gundam: the CB-002 Raphael Gundam. Inside the Raphael Gundam, a familiar voice called out for the activation of Trans-Am. Using its Trans-Am Mode, the Raphael Gundam made short work of the small alien probes and the Europa. Although the threat was gone, Setsuna was still bothered by the feeling he got from the aliens.

Tieria's Return[]

After all the Gundams returned to Ptolemy 2 Kai, the Gundam Meisters met with Raphael's pilot. As everyone expected, the pilot was none other than Tieria, who explained that as an Innovade he could transfer his consciousness to a new Innovade body. Tieria revealed that the Federation government is calling the aliens as Extraterrestrial Living-metal Shape-shifters (ELS), and asked why Setsuna could not attack them earlier. Setsuna replied he was not sure why, and Tieria noted it must be due to his intuition as an Innovator. Tieria added that even Veda could not determine the ELS's objectives, and concluded that Setsuna's interaction with the ELS indicated the alien has a will of its own.

Later in the bridge, Tieria told everyone that the encounter with ELS meant that Aeolia's "Dialogue to Come" has arrived centuries earlier than predicted. As the crew discussed how to respond to this unexpected event, Feldt asked Setsuna for his opinion. Setsuna confessed that he had no idea, apologized, and then left the bridge. Tieria remarked that Setsuna must have sensed something about the ELS and Sumeragi concurred. Tieria then asked about the progress of Setsuna's new Gundam, the GNT-0000 00 Qan[T], and said that it could be their trump card against the ELS. Sumeragi was also aware of this and commented that they are too reliant on Setsuna.

Escalation[]

Sometime later, while Setsuna was overseeing the repairs to 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type, he detected strong QBWs from the ELS. The QBWs from the ELS was also sensed by other people with QBWs everywhere. A huge gravitational field was then detected at Jupiter's red spot, drawing in and disintegrating some of Jupiter's rings and even moons, including Io and Ganymede. This gravitational field turned out to be a portal created by the ELS, and from it, a large ELS force emerged. Setsuna quickly ran to the bridge and tells Feldt to calculate how long until the ELS reaches Earth. According to Feldt's calculation, it would take approximately 95 days, slightly more than 3 months, and Setsuna said that they must go and confront the ELS.

In response to the appearance of the large ELS force, the ESF Forces launched an investigation fleet that included Captain Descartes Shaman, who was expected to use his QBWs to determine the ELS's motives, and to act as a bait to change the ELS's course. Sixteen days later, the investigation fleet engaged the large ELS force near Mars. The Ptolemy 2 Kai crew detected the battle and the Gundam Meisters immediately launched in their Gundams.

Failed Dialogue[]

Setsuna suffering painful headaches due to the ELS's QBWs as the 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type is being assimilated

By the time the Gundams arrived, the investigation fleet was already defeated and being assimilated by the ELS. The GNMA-Y0002V Gadelaza piloted by Descartes was the last to fall, and Setsuna attempted to communicate with him, but was too late. Setsuna then told his fellow Gundam Meisters to stop fighting the ELS force as he wanted to have a dialogue with the ELS. Setsuna activated the 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type's Trans-Am Burst, generating a large quantum space around his mobile suit that engulfed the nearby ELS. In the quantum space, Setsuna tried to determine the ELS's motives, but was overwhelmed by the reply. At the same time, the 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type was hit and assimilated by several small ELS. Due to the intense headache induced by ELS's QBWs, Setsuna could do nothing but cried out in pain.

In response, the other Gundams resumed their attack of the ELS force to retrieve Setsuna, but there were simply too many ELS in their way. As the 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type ran out of GN Particles, Tieria decided to use his QBWs to lure the ELS away, and he also activated the GN-008RE Seravee Gundam II, which was hidden as part of Raphael's backpack, to retrieve Setsuna. Tieria's plan worked, but it came at the cost of both of his Gundams and his new Innovade body. As the Zabanya, with the removed cockpit of the 00 Raiser GN Condenser Type in its hands, and Harute retreated to Ptolemy 2 Kai, they were pursued by the ELS. Fortunately, the Solbraves led by Graham arrived in time, and with their assistance, the Zabanya and Harute successfully escaped.

After the battle, Setsuna was warded in the medical room. According to Tieria, whose consciousness was once again back in Veda, Setsuna suffered serious brain damage due to the massive data he received from the ELS in the quantum space. Tieria had began brain cell regeneration treatment for Setsuna, but he warned Sumeragi that there was still the possibility of permanent damage to Setsuna's consciousness or memories. However, he was cautiously optimistic that Setsuna's QBWs are stronger than expected and he would recover fully. Meanwhile, the large ELS force continue on its way to Earth.

Final Mission[]

Several days later, humanity makes their final stand. The ESF mustered all available MS forces at L2, near Celestial Being, with a "Absolute Defense Line to resist the ELS. As the battle raged on, the situation wasn't looking good. Even with CB's assistance, humanity was losing badly as even the best MS pilots are faltering.

On board Ptolemy 2 Kai, although still comatose, Setsuna senses all that's happening around him: Andrei's sacrifice after some ELS breach the line, Marina & Shirin giving aid to people in Azadistan, Saji working on the Orbital Elevator, a concerned Louise, Lockon, Allelujah & Marie fighting off the ELS, the Ptolemy crew resisting the ELS. It is within his vision that he sees the first Lockon, Christina Sierra, and Lichtendahl Tsery once more, telling him that the world needs him and that he has to change. Setsuna wakes up, finding Feldt at his side. Within minutes after waking up, Setsuna prepares to launch in GNT-0000 00 Qan [T]. After Milena successfully downloaded Tieria's consciousness into the 00 Qan[T], Setsuna sorties with 00 Qan[T].

Setsuna moved past the ESF Forces as Lockon, Allelujah, Soma, Ptolemy 2 Kai, and the ESF Forces fight the ELS forces. He use Trans-Am (despite Tieria's insistence that it is their trump card for the dialogues) to cut through the surface of the ELS mothership. however, not even Trans-Am could pierce the mothership. Suddenly, a partially assimilated Graham appeared and overloaded his Brave's Trans-Am, crashing his Brave into a gap in the closing ELS planetoid while his Brave exploded. The explosion created a large enough hole for Setsuna to enter the ELS core.

Successful Dialogue[]

Once inside the core, he activated the Quantum System. The bridging process was rough, as his mind suffered the same problems he encountered earlier. To compensate, Tieria and Veda took the brunt of the information. After successfully bridging his mind and exchanging thoughts with the ELS through the Quantum System, Setsuna realized that the whole attack was a misunderstanding.

Setsuna and Tieria prepares to teleport to the ELS homeworld through Quantum Teleportation.

In a short visual display of their culture, the ELS showed Setsuna how they came to be and their situation. The ELS evolved into an advanced race, but their homeworld was dying in lieu of their own star going supernova. To salvage their race, they ventured out throughout other galaxies and assimilated other worlds to become one with what they don't understand. Now fully understanding their reasons, Setsuna decided to venture into their homeworld to truly understand them.

Setsuna used the Quantum Teleportation System, to travel to the ELS homeworld. There, he established contact and the ELS finally understood that their means of understanding were considered hostile to humanity. As a symbol of peace, the ELS rounded their probes and transformed their planetoid probe into the vision of Setsuna's desert flower he had from Feldt.

Epilogue[]

In 2364 A.D., 50 years had passed since the ELS War ended and 40% of humanity has since naturally evolved into Innovators. With the ELS now living in harmony with humanity, Setsuna visits a blind and much older Marina listening to the announcement on TV over the Sumeragi ready to launch into deep space exploration. Setsuna, with a metallic body and eyes glowing, fulfills his promise to see her again. Through his interactions with the ELS, Setsuna finally understood Marina's message of mutual understanding.

Relationships[]

Celestial Being[]

Gundam Meisters[]

Lockon Stratos (Neil Dylandy)

Lockon was something of an older brother to Setsuna during the first half of the series. Often working together on missions, Setsuna felt close to Lockon. Later on, it was revealed that Lockon Stratos' parents and sister were killed by a KPSA terrorist attack, the same organization that Setsuna was a part of with Ali al-Saachez. Lockon confronted Setsuna over the situation, drew his sidearm and demanded justice, to allow him to avenge his family. Setsuna did not attempt to dissuade Lockon from his intentions, stating that he believed that Lockon would change the world in his stead. However, Lockon noted that the real enemy was Ali al-Saachez, not Setsuna. Later on, during the GN-X's assault on the Ptolemaios, Lockon was injured after a beam saber assault struck his cockpit while defending Tieria Erde. Injured almost gravely, Lockon lost his right eye, mainly used for targeting during sniping. When a second assault by the GN-Xs occurred, Lockon sortied in the repaired Gundam Dynames.

Ali al-Saachez, who was piloting the hijacked GNW-002 Gundam Throne Zwei, engaged Lockon in combat and both defeated each other near simultaneously. Setsuna, who was returning from Earth, attempted to retrieve and save Lockon. However, the GN Arms component nearby Lockon's drifting form exploded before he could be reached, killing Lockon. Setsuna mourned Lockon's death along with many other members of the crew.

Lockon Stratos (Lyle Dylandy)

After Neil's death, there was a need for a replacement Gundam Meister and Setsuna thought Neil's brother. Setsuna chose Lyle because they both have similar feelings about changing the world and it would be fitting to have his little brother replace him. Lyle comes to slowly respect Setsuna and to follow his lead until he kills Anew Returner to prevent Lyle's death. Lyle then resents Setsuna for this, almost shooting him in the back at one point, but finally declining to do so. It is unknown whether Lyle has or will ever forgive Setsuna over this sensitive matter.

Tieria Erde

Tieria and Setsuna were never exceptionally close. Even in the beginning, Tieria disapproved of Setsuna's being chosen to become a Gundam Meister for his extremely young age. Throughout the series, Tieria and Setsuna are loathe to work together, and Tieria typically considers Setsuna to be unfit for his position, notably when Setsuna opened his cockpit during the battle in Moralia (though Tieria understood when he found out the truth later on). However, the two have shown capacity to be considerable allies, notably during the desert assault of episode 15 and later against the Gundam Throne units due to a common dislike.

At this point, it was a likely possibility that the two could become friends, but upon Lockon Stratos' death, Tieria lashed out at Setsuna, blaming him for Lockon's death. Sumeragi Lee Noriega had to intervene. After the interlude between seasons, Tieria seems to be very glad of Setsuna's return. From this point on, they both share a renewed relationship of respect and trust. Tieria even becomes responsive to Setsuna's de facto leadership, something that would have been unthinkable in the past. When Tieria is killed by Ribbons, Setsuna swears to avenge him, but Tieria dissuades him by telling that he will live on as a part of Veda. In the movie, when Setsuna is getting assimilated by the ELS, Tieria saves him with GN-008RE Seravee Gundam II and sacrificed his own physical body to protect Setsuna. This act shows that Tieria cares for Setsuna as if he were his own brother.

Allelujah Haptism

Setsuna and Allelujah did not seem to interact very much, apart from the typical battle forecast meetings by Sumeragi Lee Noriega in which both had to be present simultaneously. Neither were seen to be dismissed as a pair during missions, such pairings instead being Lockon/Setsuna or Tieria/Allelujah. During Allelujah's missing in action period Setsuna showed real concern for him and was later relieved and happy when Allelujah was found along with Marie Parfacy.

Crew of the Ptolemaios / Ptolemaios 2[]

Sumeragi Lee Noriega

As commander of tactical operations, Setsuna always carries a planned assault from Sumeragi. Interestingly it's the other Gundam Meister's that are more strict with Setsuna than herself. They maintain a friendly/professional relationship though at sometimes it is more of an older sister/younger brother relationship. Sumeragi shows concern towards Setsuna, as with the other members of Celestial Being. After her separation form Celestial Being, when Setsuna comes to pick her up, she is shocked because she thought Setsuna had died in the battle against the UN forces. After this, Sumeragi is pushed by Setsuna to rejoin Celestial Being. At the beginning she acts hesitant; but at the end she is able to find her determination inspired by Setsuna and her fellow CB members.

Feldt Grace

Feldt and Setsuna did not interact much prior to Lockon's passing. Even afterwards, the two did not seem to grow considerably closer. However, they did share a moment while standing at the cockpit of Lockon's Gundam Dynames after his death. There, Feldt shared that she had written a letter to Lockon, and told his Haro to stay with him and keep him from growing lonely. She then asked Setsuna if he wanted to write a letter to anyone, but he declined. She is later shown to be relieved and glad that Setsuna is alive during the beginning of season 2.

Later, at some point during the season, Feldt has apparently developed feelings for Setsuna. While going towards Lagrange 2 and after Setsuna's touching speech about the need to change oneself in order to change the furture Feldt's confirmed the latter when she gives Setsuna a flower. Feldt states that Marina Ismail could get angry for this, but Setsuna explains that he does not have "that kind" of relationship with Marina. Feldt then begs him not to die, which he promises to do. Even two years later, during the events of the ELS War, Feldt continued to look out and care for Setsuna, dutifully remaining by his side while he was comatose. After reawakening, Setsuna whole-heartedly accepted her feelings for him. However, he was not able to return her feelings because he has to confront the ELS for humanity’s future. Eventually, he sortied using the new 00 Qan[T], Feldt resumed her post on the Ptolemaios 2 Kai's bridge. When questioned as to why she did not go with Setsuna, Feldt simply replied that Setsuna had a greater destiny to fulfill, hinting that she may have placed the mission given to Setsuna as humanity's first True Innovator above her own feelings.

Azadistan[]

Marina Ismail

Marina met Setsuna by chance because she thought she was helping out a fellow Azadistan countryman during her diplomatic mission in Scotland. To her mistake she helped out citizen that was formally part of the Republic of Krugis, making their later conversation awkward. This conversation did not end up well; Setsuna revealed his code name identity as a Gundam Meister and warned her Celestial Being would come if conflict continues there. However Marina never revealed this information. Though not true friends at the beginning, Setsuna held respect for her as a person trying to find peace and solutions to Azadistan's developing issues, walking a path different than his. During Setsuna's return to Azadistan, he helped her restore peace by rescuing their conservative leader, Massoud Rachmadi in a heroic non-confrontation mission. Marina was able to deduce his true identity right away and asks if he's Setsuna. He returned not long some other day in the middle of the night, asking her questions about the lesser aspects of humanity, questions like "why is the world distorted, misguided (or twisted, depending on translation). Before he sortied on his final mission, he wrote a letter to her. Marina was genuinely concerned and was touched by Setsuna's possibly post death letter.

Four years later, Setsuna and Marina would meet again, but Marina was a prisoner where Allelujah was being held captive. After rescuing her, Setsuna shows empathy for getting her involved, but Marina doesn't seemed to be bothered by it, only concerned of why Setsuna is still fighting now despite having the chance to live differently all these years. He responded that it's the only thing he knows, which made Marina cry with sympathy for his lack of happiness.

Setsuna and Marina had a close relationship, which led people to confuse them as being romantically involved such as Mileina Vashti asking if she and Setsuna were lovers but both, without any hesitation or embarrassment, denied it; and the Katharon's orphan children going out of their rooms when they are embarrassed, saying that Setsuna and Marina got "lovey-dovey". After apologizing for drawing her into trouble, Setsuna and Marina grow considerably closer. They now debate and talk about war and peace. Marina even asked if Setsuna wanted to join her to rebuild Azadistan, but he refused saying that he could do no more than fighting. Marina was genuinely saddened for Setsuna's sad and tragic lifestyle.

Setsuna entrusts Marina Ismail to Katharon's care. After some time they meet once again when Setsuna came back injured from the battle with Ali al-Saachez. After receiving medical treatment and after waking up from recovery, they share an intimate moment in which they talk about themselves and their lives. Marina implores Setsuna to find the way of changing the world without fighting, the way Setsuna said he had been looking along with his Gundam in his letter. Before parting ways once more, Setsuna said that when they meet again he wants to hear the children sing Marina's song, at which she replied that Setsuna had to take care of himself.

Two years after the defeat of A-Laws and the Innovators, Setsuna saved Marina from an assassination attempt by the Colony Public Corporation. However, he chooses not to see her as Setsuna didn't think it was necessary. After Setsuna makes peace with the ELS, Marina sees the desert flower in space (native to Azadistan) and said that it represented Setsuna's hopes and wishes for the world. 50 years after the ELS conflict, Setsuna returned to Earth to see the elderly Marina, with both of them telling each other that they could finally understand each other.

Union of Solar Energy and Free Nations[]

Saji Crossroad

He is Setsuna's next door neighbor, and he is ignorant to Setsuna's true identity until four years later. From the beginning Saji tried to be nice and polite towards Setsuna, but he was soon disappointed to find out his cold and taciturn personality. However he keeps trying to reach Setsuna and more than one time he tries to establish a relationship with him. The two of them lost contact during the five years interlude between seasons. After being rescued by Setsuna in Proud Colony and after having learned his real identity, he vents that Setsuna destroyed everything he held dear and asks why he still fights. Setsuna says he has his reasons and doesn't care if Saji hates him.

After the Katharon base incident, Saji tries to make up to his sins by piloting the 0 Raiser. After Saji becomes the pilot of the 0 Raiser, Setsuna convinces Saji to fight in order to save Louise from the grip of the Innovators. After Celestial Being's final battle with the Innovators, Saji was fully understanding about Celestial Being actions and the circumstances around Setsuna; so he became more considerate and understanding towards him. In one scene, after being moved by Setsuna's selfless acting and determination, Saji even thanked him because he felt he had to do it. When the Trans-Am Burst system was activated during the Lagrange 2 battle, Saji had no doubt that the "pure and warm light" was the light from Setsuna's heart, the light that would lead humanity to a better future.

Graham Aker

Graham was among the first characters to behold a Celestial Being intervention. From the very beginning Graham was awed by Setsuna/Exia's outstanding performance. This admiration soon evolved into obsession, as Graham started making constant exertions to face and defeat Gundam Exia. When Graham first met Setsuna in person (during the Azadistan incident) Graham had spotted him eavesdropping his conversation with Billy Katagiri. Graham immediately noticed that Setsuna was not a common guy; and he even leaked some information under this suspicions. His obsession soon reached the point where he claimed that his towards Gundam feeling was love. This obsession worsened when his comrades were killed, this is when his feeling became hatred. At his final confrontation with Setsuna/Exia, Graham confirmed that Setsuna was not a common guy indeed. At this final confrontation Graham stated that it was destiny what linked him to Setsuna.

After becoming Mr. Bushido he became one of Setsuna's greatest foes in season 2. He found the determination to defeat Setsuna in honorable battle. Mr. Bushido was even given a special license which authorized him to do as he pleased (just like a one-man-army) and he took this as an advantage to face 00 Gundam every time he could. He finally lost his final battle against Setsuna; and he was about to suicide (according to what Bushido stated). However he hesitated when remembering Setsuna's final words to him: "I will fight to live on". At the end he did not hate or despise Setsuna and called his fate link with him as an unavoidable destiny.

Later on in the ELS conflict, Graham rushed into the battle once more to save Celestial Being's Gundam team, his arrival didn't prevent the ELS from assimilating the ESF fleet or save Tieria Erde's physical form, but it did allow CB to retrieve an unconscious Setsuna. After he was transferred to the ship, Graham paid him a visit and noted how Setsuna attempted to seek a path for understanding with a race as enigmatic as the ELS, Feldt Grace asked his identity, but he simply answered with "a man who foolishly attempted to surpass the Gundams; when it was this boy the one I needed to surpass." Graham also took part in the battle at the Absolute Line of Defense, catching up to a hesitant Setsuna during the battle and saying that it was him who told Graham that he should fight to live on, even if it was a contradiction. And finally showed the last act of redemption when he helped Setsuna in breaking through the ELS planetoid, having left every vendetta behind them as he slipped through the regenerating planetoid's surface and self-destructed his Brave, giving Setsuna the opportunity he sought to communicate with the ELS.

In Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Festival 10 "Re:vision", shortly after Setsuna made contact with the ELS, the alien life form saved Graham, who was floating close to the ELS core, by merging with him. Setsuna then heard Graham's voice and was surprised that he was still alive. Talking to Graham before going to ELS homeworld, Setsuna suggested he live with ELS and protect the Earth as a Gundam Meister. Graham accepted his fate and promised he would protect the Earth in Setsuna's stead. Setsuna then promised that he would return to Earth one day and they would see each other again.

PMC Trust[]

Ali al-Saachez

He is the former leader of the terrorist organization KSPA. He was the one brainwashed Setsuna (and the other Krugis children) as a child and turned him into a child soldier under the guise of religion. As a consequence of this, Setsuna even killed his parents to prove his devotion towards God. This is why Ali has greatly impacted Setsuna, causing him to harbor a general disbelief towards religion and peace talks. Ali trained Setsuna in an undisclosed martial art, and this in turn it is used by Setsuna mainly when he pilots the Exia. Having met once again on the battlefield during the Moralia intervention, Setsuna exited his cockpit to confirm his opponent was Ali, he wanted to know where his God was but he only found out that Ali was a man obsessed with fighting and blood-spilling.

Meeting at other times, Setsuna fiercely battled the man, but was never able to defeat him during season 1. Setsuna's hatred for Ali grew when he killed Lockon Stratos; and he was latter shocked to find out that Ali had not died. After the battle of Memento Mori, Setsuna got separated from Ptolemy and he went into Earth to look for them. It was then that he met Ali again. After refusing Ribbons request for 00 Gundam, Setsuna faced once more Ali; but this time he was victorious thanks to 00 Raiser. Setsuna was about to kill Ali but he hesitated at the last moment when he heard Marina's song and therefore spared Ali's life.

A-Laws[]

Louise Halevy

She was Saji's girlfriend and met Setsuna through him. They did not have any kind of friendly relationship as they never shared a formal conversation. After Mrs. Halevy (Louise's mom) went back from her visit to Spain, Saji invited Setsuna to his place because he thought that more people would help Louise to feel better. This did not seem to work and infuriated by her crying, Setsuna asked why she was acting that way. She said she was feeling alone, at which Setsuna replied that she could meet her mom anytime as she was not dead. After this Louise childishly called Setsuna a moron and told Saji that she did not like Setsuna. After the five years interlude between seasons, Louise met Setsuna once again during the A-Laws Elite Banquet. She immediately recognized him. She even recalled his name and it can be said that she was even somehow happy to see him again (as she remembered the old, good times). This time they held a formal conversation and Louise acted differently from her immature self of the past. Even after learning Setsuna's true identity, she did not seem to hold a grudge or hatred against him, also unaware that Setsuna was the pilot of a Gundam.

Innovators[]

Ribbons Almark

Though Setsuna didn't know it at the time as a child fighting for the Republic of Krugis, Ribbons was his savior - the pilot of the 0 Gundam, who had destroyed all the MS in the area. Though he was supposed to eliminate all witnesses, Ribbons spared Setsuna's life, seeing that the young boy's look to be admiration and awe. Ribbons later used Veda to recommend him as a Gundam Meister. Eleven years later, Ribbons attempted to use this fact to compel Setsuna to hand over 00 Raiser, but Setsuna refused.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Setsuna's name could be denoted to state his personality. Translated it means 'Moment from eternity' indicating Setsuna's place as the first Genuine Innovator.
  • Setsuna is part of the Kurdish people.
  • Coincidentally, both Setsuna's Japanese and English voice actors have also voiced Death Note character Light Yagami. Setsuna's Japanese voice actor, Mamoru Miyano, has also won the "Best voice actor award" for both roles at the 2008 Tokyo International Anime Fair. However, he never won any awards in the most prestigious event of the anime industry, the Anime Grand Prix (Animage), either as Light Yagami or as Setsuna F. Seiei.
  • In the first ending theme, Setsuna appears eating an apple in a clear reference to Miyano's (as well as Brad Swaile's) role as Light Yagami.[49]
  • Setsuna's English voice actor, Brad Swaile, previously played Amuro Ray from the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, Quatre Raberba Winner in Gundam Wing, Dearka Elsman in Gundam SEED and Auel Neider in Gundam SEED Destiny. As a result of this, at times, Setsuna sounds more or less exactly like Amuro in Season 2. However, while voicing Setsuna when he is young, Swaile sounds more like he did playing Auel. Amuro and Setsuna being voiced by the same voice actor is also an interesting irony compared to their Japanese voice actor. In the Japanese version, Amuro Ray and Ribbons Almark are voiced by Toru Furuya, a fact that has become the base of many fan-jokes (Ribbons Almark pilots the 0 Gundam, which is very much based on the RX-78-2 Gundam).
  • Setsuna's personality is very similar to that of Heero Yuy from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.
  • Setsuna's real name may be based off Soran Ebrahim, a Kurdish child actor who portrayed the protagonist of the film [Turtles Can Fly][1].[50]
  • Setsuna did develop a second brain through the GN particle exposure, as mentioned in a Great mechanic's DX interview. This second brain is known as a Quantum brain, it is made up of a network of GN particles/Quantum brainwaves.
  • Although not official, Setsuna displays a strong dislike for GN Fang-equipped mobile suits in Super Robot Wars Z2, which can be inferred to be due to the ruthless armed interventions carried out by the Trinity Gundam Meisters. He refused to accept the "Gundam with Fangs" as a true Gundam, until its pilot kindly informs him that the weapons are not in fact GN Fangs, but fin funnels.
  • Setsuna is the first Gundam protagonist of Middle Eastern descent (although he has a Japanese name as an alias).
  • Setsuna is described as someone who does not believe in God. He believed in Gundam (especially his own) as his savior.
  • Alongside Gundam Wing's main character Heero Yuy, Setsuna is an example of the few Gundam protagonists that do not show romantic scenes with a female character throughout their story in the motion picture. But it is obvious that Heero has some sense of affection for Relena Darlian, while Setsuna's feelings for Marina Ismail are still questionable, and could be interpreted as feelings similar to what he once had for his mother. His kiss with Nena Trinity can not be categorized as a romantic scene due to the fact that Setsuna did not consent to it (nor did he approve of Nena to begin with). However, the manga adaptation of the 00 Movie features additional take on Marina and Setsuna's reunion. The two were reunited and married metaphorically as if they were themselves fifty years back before the ELS Conflict.[51]
  • Besides the Exia Repair and Exia Repair II, Setsuna's Gundams' weaponry would consist of seven swords. Exia's main armaments consists of the GN Sword, a pair of GN Blades, two GN Beam Sabers and two GN Beam Daggers. The main weapons of his next mobile suit, the 00 Raiser consists of the GN Sword III, two GN Sword IIs, two GN Beam Sabers and a pair of bladed GN Shields. Lastly, the 00 Qan(T)'s main armaments consist of the GN Sword V and six sword bits.
  • Unlike most of the others Gundam series' protagonist (e.g.: Kira Yamato, Amuro Ray, Garrod Ran, etc.), Setsuna was taught how to fight even before he became a Gundam Meister.
  • When in the last fight of both seasons against a mobile suit with GN T Drive Setsuna's Gundam always ends up losing its head and left arm, this pays homage to how the RX-78-2 Gundam lost it's head and left arm in it's last fight.
  • In Super Robot Wars Z2, Setsuna's Ace Bonus (bonus that earned after reaching 70 kills) is 50% more damage against units with Solar Furnaces and Gundam-type units. This may be based on Setsuna's obsession with Gundam.
  • A joke about Setsuna's obsession with Gundam occurs in Super Robot Wars Z2 Hakai-hen in scenario 34. In that scenario, Setsuna amazed with Ranka Lee's ability to stop the rampaging Zentradis with her song, Seikan Hikou. He then said (in Japanese): "An overwhelming power that can change everything. Is that song also a Gundam?"
  • Setsuna establishes a respectful rivalry with Heero Yuy in Super Robot Wars Z2 Hakai-hen and keep the relationship in the game's sequel, Super Robot Wars Z2 Saisei-hen. The peak of their rivalry is when Heero said that Setsuna have surpassed the Gundam, which is then replied by Setsuna by saying that Heero's praise is the greatest compliment he had received.
  • In scenario 55 of Super Robot Wars Z2 Saisei-hen, the last scenario of Macross Frontier storyline, Setsuna managed to exploit 00 Raiser's Trans-Am Burst System to aid Ranka Lee in her attempt to communicate with an army of extraterrestrial race known as Vajras. This is a contrary to what happens in Awakening of the Trailblazer, where he was not able to use the same method to communicate with the ELS.
  • While Setsuna's pilot suit is usually blue, in both of his return appearances in Season 2 and the movie while working undercover, he is seen with a black suit.
  • In Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3, Setsuna has a special quote if he uses a Combination SP Attack with the DLC character Graham Aker where the two reveal their star signs to each other. Setsuna as an Aries, whose element is the sun seems to be a reference to the GN Drives being solar reactors and the seemingly infinite radiance they produce. It is also backed up that his being saved by the 0 Gundam occurred at sunset.
  • Setsuna and his personal Mobile Suits (Exia, 00, 00 Qan[T]) were among the inspirations for Ultraman Zero, a recurring character of the Ultra Series who shared the same voice actor. In comparison to Setsuna;
    • Both of their weapons of choice are known for being swords. Exia's habit of throwing its GN Beam Daggers and GN Short Blade parallels that of Zero's Zero Sluggers.
    • Their final form involves having their skin turned metallic.
    • Both are kind but do not really show it.
    • These similarities were taken further in the 2014 game Lost Heroes 2, where both Ultraman Zero and 00 Qan[T] can perform the combination attack called GN Ultimate Zero Sword (GNウルティメイトゼロソード Ji En Urutimeito Zero Sōdo?). Afterwards, they ended it with their quote "We are Gundam/Ultraman!" while Zero remarks how Setsuna can't decide the catchphrase properly, prompting the latter to apologize.
    • Both have interacted with a character voiced by Yuichi Nakamura - Graham Aker/Mister Bushido and Ultraman X.
  • Setsuna's English voice actor Brad Swaile is credited as "Brian Swaile" on Right Stuf's North American DVD release of Mobile Suit Gundam 00.
  • To obtain both the "ELS Innovator" and the "Innovator" variant of the Setsuna AI Pilot in Gundam Breaker Mobile, players must build it from event blueprints during a limited time when it is available as a build project. This is very resource-intensive process, as each part requires a combination of twelve total Material which can only be obtained by rolling the current gacha capsules on specific weeks to get the number of necessary material for the part. it would take at least twelve rolls over four weeks to craft the AI.
  • Setsuna appears in the Gundam Extreme Vs. series as the pilot of the Exia and Exia Repair, Avalanche Exia, 00 Gundam, 00 Gundam Seven Sword, Qan[T] and Qan[T] Full Saber and is tied with Char Aznable for piloting the most units in the series.
    • Due to Setsuna's poorly worded but iconic "I am Gundam", several characters, including Char, will be confused and believe Setsuna to be crazy enough to think he's an actual Gundam. Mikazuki Augus will mistakenly think that "Gundam" is supposed to be Setsuna's name.
    • Exia Setsuna will be surprised by the development of the Gundam Meisters' units in the future, particularly the 00's twin GN Drive and the Dynames' successor units.
    • Several characters will try their spin on Setsuna's iconic "Setsuna F. Seiei slashing through the future!" such as Tatsuya Yuuki and Banagher Links.
    • Because of similarities between both units and their pilots, Setsuna will mistake Amuro Ray's RX-78-2 Gundam for the 0 Gundam. He also mistakes the red lights of the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam to be the same as Trans-Am.
  • In DLC SD Gundam Battle Alliance, ELS Setsuna is the last boss and was from Graham's imagination to test his own mind.
