Here, take this Day Pass and go speak with our First Citizen - I'm sure she will have many questions for you.

Wallace is the Customs Official of Vault City in 2241.

Background[]

A thin man with a pinched face and a sharply pressed vault suit,[1] Wallace is a distinguished official in charge of processing all merchants coming into the city, supervising transactions, logging caravans, and issuing day passes to visitors. As such, he has a detailed knowledge of all trade relations of Vault City with its neighbors and has developed quite the skills in eloquence and dealing with people.

His assistant is Skeev, who is particularly untrustworthy, but Wallace doesn't seem to care all that much. Wallace is only at the customs office outside Vault City proper between 7:00 and 18:00, which may make it difficult for some people to enter initially. Also, any crimes committed at night will be remembered by Wallace during the day, and he will not allow entry.

Issues day passes.

Other interactions[]

The player character can obtain a day pass from Wallace through several ways:

  • The Chosen One can convince Wallace that they need to see Joanne Lynette with 75% Speech or 7 Intelligence.
  • Find the raiders and report.
  • Wear nothing but the vault jumpsuit (also happens if the player character has less than 4 Intelligence or wears the bridgekeeper's robes).
  • Tell Wallace that the player character is a trader. With any (golden) gecko pelts, (refined) uranium ore, gold nuggets, or human companions (to sell into slavery), Wallace will sell a day pass for $500.
  • Inform him of the Jet problem in Redding.
  • Expose Skeev and ask for a day pass in exchange with 75% Speech.
  • Pickpocket one off of him.
  • Take one from a locked locker in his office.
  • With Intelligence less than 4, a day pass is issued automatically.
  • Telling Wallace that you know the cause of Redding's slowed shipments.

One can also inquire as to what goods come through the customs office and where from, though locations are not provided.
