The United States Bullion Depository was a vault holding more than half of the United States' gold reserves, constructed on the grounds of Fort Knox.

The depository was a major projected target in the event of a nuclear war,[1] and so the United States Department of the Treasury had all the gold from Bullion Depository secretly moved to Vault 79, a Vault-Tec safehouse specifically designed for the purpose. The depository was left empty of gold bullion.[2]
