Possible Bug (PC Missing Holotape)[]

I received the objective to upload the holotape on an institute terminal, but when I went to do so I found I did not have the Encrypted Holotape. I think I saw the message that I had received it, but it was not in my inventory. I went back to Tom and he wouldn't mention it.

The only thing "strange" I might have done is that after talking with Tom to get the tape, I teleported directly from Railroad HQ to the institute, without moving at all. I can't imagine it would have caused the issue but who knows... Anyway, if someone can verify this consider adding it as a bug.

By using console command "player.additem 20b00e 1" I was able to work around it.

Possible bug (PC)[]

PC, the quest stage "Continue working for father" seems stuck. Just finished Mass Fusion and started Pinned, still no update after fast travel and 24hrs wait.

Says it's bugged with no fix. :/ Which sucks, because I'm in this boat too and I really want to continue working with the Railroad. --Nixerix (talk) 07:24, December 11, 2015 (UTC)
Guys, it's not a bug, you didn't go far enough. You have to keep working with father. After you complete Powering Up, a synth will approach you in the board room after you meet with the directorate. At least that's what happened for me. --Xernoc (talk) 07:19, December 28, 2015 (UTC)

knockout?[]

Would you be able to knockout the guards with the stringer?

Weapon Deposit Criteria?[]

Note says weapons deposit is complete when 23 weapons have been put in the locker. I deposited 19 Institute Rifles (all at once) and 6 sundry (institute) weapons and it didn't work. So, on a hunch, I pulled them all back and then put Institute Rifles in the locker one at a time, and when I had deposited 10 of them (again, one at a time) it completed. So...not sure what the real criteria is there.

I just did it and it was 10 (had to be one at a time, stacks didn't count).

I had to put 31 items in the locker - I took a large number of light guns and it didn't seem to matter if I put them all in, took some out and put them back in, etc, the result was always the same. I deposited:
  • 17 Pipe Bolt-Action Pistols
  • 8 Pipe Pistols
  • 1 Light Pipe Rifle
  • 5 Gamma Guns

Chaosworrier (talk) 07:45, December 29, 2015 (UTC)

I placed 12 Fatman and 39 Gauss Rifle because 6 Fatman and 39 Gauss Rifle wasn't enough for some reason. (level 93, survival. I doubt survival part matters but) At first I placed 15 Gauss Rifles. Then returned to bring more, placing another 17. That didn't work so I brought 7 more and 6 Fatman. I had my doubts about the Fatman since it uses up mini nukes even when NPCs use them but, placing 6 more completed the objective. --Deeeemon (talk) 09:55, January 2, 2016 (UTC)

Similar experience to above. Tried to deposit a stack of 25 institute pistols which did nothing. I then took them back and started adding them one at a time and completed the objective once 9 pistols were placed. Could be that the quest checks for the number of times weapons have been deposited, rather than the actual contents.

I was unable to get the holotape necessary for this quest unless I had the Underground help me with building the components for The Molecular Level. Previously I had worked with the Minutemen; Tinker Tom's dialogue indicated that I had been given the holotape, but he never gave it up. Going through the Institute for Molecular Level, Desdemona handed me the tape on the platform just before I teleported. Hzoi (talk) 15:57, January 5, 2016 (UTC)

ˆˆ You have to finish the mission of whatever faction you choose (talking to Ingram or Sturges), then Tinker Tom gives you a new tape. Sided with BOS, after returning the original tape to Ingram, Tom's dialogue got reset and gave me a new one.

After reading the above, I placed 5 items in and took them out repeatedly for... a little while. 5-10 times, I'd guess. Nothing happened. After that, I got bored and put all of my personal weapons in there, which was about 7, including a stack of 10 molotovs. I got credit after doing that. Then I pulled my personal weapons back out, and credit was removed - it was no longer completed. Put them back in - credit came back, etc. Autrui (talk) 20:29, January 8, 2016 (UTC)

I put 10 Pipe Pistols one by one (i.e. open storage, put one in, close storage, repeat) and the objective was completed. I took all 10 out, incomplete. Then I put all 10 in at the same time, completed again. --178.233.181.212 19:05, January 13, 2016 (UTC)

Putting them in one at a time and closing the container between each seems to be the trick. With that method, I had it completed after 10. --98.207.251.38 02:26, January 17, 2016 (UTC)

  • April 4th. Dumping a load of weapons into the box all at once works perfectly fine. otherunicorn

Playing on survival date 21. of december. First time I placed 8 (laser and plasma) weapons in the container, objective didn't complete. Took them out, placed them one by one by closing and opening container, required 10 weapons to complete the objective. Took them all out, placed 8 guns like the first time at the same time, objective was completed this time.

Lockdown?[]

So I killed all of the guards in the tunnels, but when I used the elevator to go up all of the sliding doors are closed (and locked) in the main atrium. Is it because I didn't kill them stealthy?

Patriot's Reply Is Nowhere To Be Found

I uploaded the tape but there is no response on any of the accessible computers in The Institute. Liam is waiting in the closet for me but won't enter quest dialogue, and the quest notes show the tape is loaded and I need to read Patriot's reply. I'm on a PS4, or I would try to add the tape and do it over.

Any suggestions? I'm stuck and basically out of options.

I am on a PS4 and stuck on the Underground Undercover quest. I uploaded the tape, however there is no reply. I've checked every terminal in the building for weeks and there is nothing. Patriot is standing in the closet waiting, but he won't enter the quest dialogue. I see there is a fix for PC, anything I can do on my PS4 or is this game ruined for me?

No Reply From Patriot (PS4)[]

I uploaded the tape without difficulty but there has been no reply for weeks from Patriot. He is standing in the closet but won't enter the quest dialogue. I've checked every terminal in the building several times.

Does the reply only appear on the same terminal the message was uploaded?

Is the message instantaneous following the tape being uploaded?

If the message isn't found within a period of time does it disappear?

Is this game ruined for me?!

"Liam/Patriot Won't Move" Bug; XBox One[]

Liam (Patriot) wouldn't move from the closet after telling me to follow him to meet the synth. I got around this by walking into him repeatedly, which caused him to move a short distance away from me, until I got him out of the closet, and into the corner near the middle door. (The storage area has three doors between the atrium and Liam; one to the closet, one inner door of the hall, and the outer door to the atrium.) He would not walk through this middle door. Once I had pushed him into the corner to the left of the doorway, I punched him in the leg until his leg broke, at which point he glitched through the wall. (For my character, this took 3 punches with 9 strength. Make sure to use bare fists only, as weapons will likely instantly kill him.) This caused him to reappear on the topmost floor of the institute, and once I approached him there, he walked to the meeting area. (Albeit, slowly, with his broken leg.) This work-around may also work for the PlayStation version. I mention this because leaving the closet area did not fix the quest, and I could not find Z1-14 anywhere in the atrium until after I did this. Nccvoyager (talk) 22:50, July 30, 2017 (UTC)

Glory bug[]

I ran into the bug where Glory is dead and Des couldn't be warned about the BoS attack. However, after resurrecting Glory and recycling, I still couldn't talk to her. After a fair bit of digging in the CK, I found that RR302 and RR303 had not been started by RR304's stage 100 (Triggered by RR201 stage 1050), as they should have been.

To fix:

startquest rr302

startquest rr303

setstage rr302 10100

setstage rr303 10100

Just felt like leaving this here in case it helps anyone else who still runs into this bug. Ferret99gt (talk) 23:16, August 7, 2017 (UTC)

Misleading description?[]

I never got to the point where the institute told me to go for the Railroad. I got the runner directly after the directorate meeting (which ends the previous institute quest Powering Up and starts End of the Line. At that point though, talk was only about taking on the Brotherhood, not the Railroad. --2003:C1:7F00:3040:9D62:C579:277D:FECA 23:33, November 27, 2017 (UTC)

I think you're thinking of another quest. This one won't start until you're a railroad heavy. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 09:23, November 28, 2017 (UTC)

Do they actually USE the weapons you put in the locker?[]

If you put nothing but plasma rifles in the trunk, will synth rebels be visibly/audibly armed with plasma rifles them during the big fight? or SMGs? or Miniguns? Or is this just a "bird or the cage" choice that doesn't really have any effect beyond maybe some extra XP at the end? Why put your good weapons in it if it has the same effect as putting them in a dead NPC and then resurrecting it. Noobyorkcity (talk) 01:17, June 29, 2018 (UTC)

Bug: If completing Institutionalized fails Underground Undercover[]

If finishing the quest Institutionalized fails Underground Undercover, try speaking again with Father and go through all the dialog that started Institutionalized. Once the dialog is complete, Institutionalized will reset and make it possible to finish without failing Underground Undercover.
