Pointless quest?[]

It's my understanding that, in order to receive this quest, the player has to have progressed down Mr. House's line of the main quest, and therefore receive Don't Tread on the Bear!, which will be failed (causing the NCR to no longer accept your help) a bit before this quest activates, rendering this quest pointless because the NCR won't let you protect their President. So, what's the deal? Am I thinking about this the wrong way, or is this quest really pointless? Foxi Hooves (talk) 01:28, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

yeah, i don't get it either. it (allegedly) involves a NCR quest, that you only get after For the Republic, Part 2. but since you have to kill House in the "republic-quest" quest, you actually never can succeed here. or am i missing something? --92.201.15.59 07:46, January 10, 2018 (UTC)
