One time i found him with a purple pimp hat on. so i killed him and the item was called "Eulogy Jones's hat" wtf?

I also have Rotface with the Eulogy Jones hat. Strange.
Interesting, Eulogy Jones is a character from Fallout 3. Rizzle-Q 09:39, November 6, 2010 (UTC)

Wonder if there's an NPC called Festergut

Underground Monster Battles?[]

I heard from this guy that there is an "underground" place in the Wasteland where people put wasteland creatures to fight against each other for sport. What place is this?

Ju Juitsu 06:42, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

The place is called "Thorn" (a marked location, look it up). It's not exactly creature vs creature, but creature vs man/woman. You can also participate, or you can bet on either creature or man/woman. (Correct me if I'm wrong) --Radnus 81.205.186.16 01:05, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

It is also creature vs. creature. Humans only appear if it is a weaker type of creature such as mantis'

Harold?[]

Did Harold not give advice to the Vault Dweller in return for caps? Harold was a begger in Oldtown, probably in a similar position as Rotface is. ... As a side note, is it worth mentioning that Rotface is the name for a creature in World of Warcraft that otherwise shares no further similarities with the Fallout character? Just a thought... --Radnus 81.205.186.16 23:33, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

Hat Verification[]

That's Eulogy Jones' Hat.

Also, if this picture is too big, just ask. I'll pop a smaller one instead. --97.83.178.170 22:16, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't matter if it's too big or not, we can't use that image.
  1. It uses a mod, or at least is modified using the console on the PC
  2. The HUD is showing.

--Kris User Hola 23:21, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying. My game is -completely- unmodded. The hud can be cropped, as well. --97.83.178.170 06:25, December 4, 2010 (UTC)
If you hit the ~ key and bring up the console you won't see any HUD and can take screens that way if you don't want to chop chunks out of images to get rid of it. --Pongsifu 12:26, December 4, 2010 (UTC)
when does this hat show up? just randomly on return? i've never been able to obtain it and didn't know about it even after 100+ hours.--64.126.90.132 06:42, November 7, 2011 (UTC)
I obtained the hat after paying for exactly 11 tips, waiting outside the east gate for two hours, then re-entering. I've updated the page to reflect this, as I was having trouble obtaining it before using these specific instructions.--Jojobobo (talk) 13:52, August 17, 2014 (UTC)

Second-hand adventuring gear[]

What does this refer to?

There's a guy out on the main drag who sells second hand adventuring gear. He's got an okay selection, but where does it come from?

The closest I can figure is Mister Holdout, which doesn't seem quite right. The calculator 11:17, May 12, 2011 (UTC)

Actually, i believe he is talking about George , the guy on the road that goes by nellis who does wagers with folks to see if they can get across , then sells their stuff when they get explodinated (hehe) .. it seems to fit a lot more than mister holdout .

Actually he's referring to Tom Dooley. A merchant dealing in ill-gotten adventurer's gear, and an accomplice of Kevin Hargrove. He was intended to appear in Freeside and is placed next to a dumpster inside Freeside's north gate, but disabled. He has two merchant packages, one of them containing the player's goods, the other containing the following:

                   10mm Pistol
                   Hunting Rifle
                   Sawed Off Shotgun
                   vendorweaponsexplosives
                   75 caps leveled
                   Assorted melee weapons
                   Assorted guns
                   12 gauge, 10mm, and .308 ammo

The player might have been able to confront Tom about his misappropriations through dialog, but this will never be known for sure as neither Tom nor Kevin have any lines of dialog or blank topic names.

A remnant of Tom's presence appears in the final game, when Rotface mentions the following randomized tip, leaving some wondering about whom exactly he was speaking:

Hat[]

According to The Cutting Room Floor, Rotface had a whole subplot that revolved around the hat. All his dialogue is still in the gamefiles. Apparently to get him to wear the hat you have to buy more than 10 tips but less than 20 and then leave the cell. 24.181.215.191 23:01, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

Karma Backlash[]

I'm starting to think Rotface doesn't need caps as badly as he claims. First, if you give him enough caps, he eventually gets a hat. Second, I actually LOST karma for reverse-pickpocketing him three thousand caps. True story.

BigBadHurtz (talk) 22:01, September 3, 2012 (UTC)

You lose karma just reverse-pickpocketing, no matter how helpful the item is. --ffs (talk) 05:26, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

A cut quest involving the fate of Rotface![]

Wow, just now I stumbled across this mod at the New Vegas nexus, here's a post of the mod by the author, moburma80:

"To answer both your questions: The original quest in-game was unfinished. Obsidian knew exactly how they were going to end the quest, but never had time to actually script the endings. They recorded all the dialogues, and included lots of notes in the scripts as to what was supposed to happen - they just never actually made the endings happen, which is why rotface just gives tips and nothing else. I completely planned out and implemented the endings (new packages, scripts, etc) myself based on the directions left by Obsidian.

His quest has FOUR endings. How you get to those endings is quite complex, and depends entirely on what you say to him. I've tried to factor the player's intention into the rewards for each ending, so that you don't e.g. get good karma for being a dick to him but having him ending up at a "good" outcome anyway (that the player could not have seen coming), but you od if you are consistently nice to him and encourage him to take a path that will likely have a good outcome to him ( trying not to spoil).

One of the endings will have him simply disappear from his spot. If this happens the quest is NOT over - he has gone somewhere else in Freeside. Think carefully about what he said to you previously to work out where (although one of the options that leads to this is a bit inexplicable). Once you talk to him at this new location you will reach the end. The other endings are a lot more.... obvious, heh.

The tip cost thing is annoying as it is just plain wrong. The game's scripts make it clear he should be charging the player 10 caps at the second tier, as does his dialogue, and from a game balance perspective it makes little sense to immediately demand 100 caps from a potentially low level player for not terribly much (and at that point little evidence that there is more to him than giving out info). It's not the end of the world, but it bugs me. "

SPOILER ALERT

The quest endings are here, you have been warned!! --ffs (talk) 09:28, October 8, 2012 (UTC)

I don't know if it is a mod nonsense, but it would be best to check the GECK for this info. Energy X 09:35, October 8, 2012 (UTC)
