General[]

This quote: "Apparently, if you follow the instructions on the computer screen, you only need to do one computer and it will isolate the virus. (Yet to be confirmed)." Just plain isn't true (Aside from the unconfirmed part). Removing it so there's no blatant misinformation. - The Capulet 15:23, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

  • I can't seem to get this bug to work either. I recommend it be removed as well. --Ayumix 13:30, November 10, 2010 (UTC) (Nov 10, 2010)

This article should be merged with the 'Still in the Dark' quest. I understand that it has it's own specific bugs, but let's be honest, it is integral to the story arc Head Paladin Hardin gives you, it is directly related and part of 'Still in the Dark's completion. MERGE.

This article isn't even REFERENCED on the 'Still in the Dark' quest page. Added reference, no opinion on merge, but the quest article is long and this is part of Optional quest. --LawdyMissMaudy 17:48, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

Bugs[]

To the guy telling me that the bug wasn't an issue on 360, please explain what happened, so I can update accordingly.- The Capulet 15:23, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Virus Bug[]

The bug for picking the science option in dialog with Ibsen is present on the 360 version. --Coryhamfist 21:29, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Bug does not apply to PC version[]

At least not when I did it with a high science skill.--Zebon 22:22, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

I've locked out 3 terminals and I can't seem to find the virus anywhere else anymore now, so it's definetly in pc version too.
Agreed. So that means that this bug is conditional. We just don't know what the conditions are. Btw, don't forget to sign your name in talk channels.
I'm stuck with only 3 also. I'm a PC with 100 natural science. Cancausecancer 2011-02-01 10:05Z

In my actual new game I never heard the 30seconds bark, so I just checked in the geck : In the dialogue vDialoguehiddenvalley - HVIbsenvirusstart, the virustimer is set to 20. Can someone else confirm ? In previous games I don't remember this quest was bugged and it was easy to isolate the virus.--Croquignol (talk) 23:13, November 29, 2012 (UTC)

Bug on 360[]

I think I ran into some sort of bug today. While doing the virus lockout I tried to open the terminal and nothing showed up on screen and the screen went blurry but I could hear it. Once I exited the terminal everything went back to normal until I open up another terminal. So I think it's a bug. Nicholad 17:59, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Easy strategy - Save and Load after each virus.[]

Here's an easy way of accomplishing this task:

  1. Quickly find a terminal with a virus. Isolate.
  2. Create a save.
  3. Find another terminal with a virus. Isolate.
  4. Find last terminal.

If you find yourself short on time finding the 2nd or 3rd terminal, just reload the save from step #2. The virus will always be in the same locations. So you can easily find the 2nd and 3rd separately, then reloading the save game to complete the task within the time limit.

There may be a bug where reloading and finding the 3rd virus doesn't complete the task. Just reload and do it again and it should work. (This happened to me in one instance). Good luck! --Ayumix 13:36, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

Speech/Science Check Walkthrough

When you pass the speech check, Ibsen will be amazed and yadadada.... he starts the isolation process. But if you choose the right terminal, you could quickly find the virus and capture it without doing all the other partitioning, isolating stuff with the other parts. -(Not a user but tryin to be)

Merge[]

As this is listed as an individual quest in the GECK I don't think it should be merged with Still in the Dark, for the sake of keeping a full catalog of New Vegas quests. --Cartman! 06:33, April 21, 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. You can complete this quest to help out Ibsen (he seems like a good guy :D) even if you don't agree to help Hardin and never give him any of the tapes. --Actreal 07:40, April 21, 2011 (UTC)

after further review.... perhaps it is a good idea to keep them separate???

I am in agreement with Cartman and Actreal, the quest does not need a merger, especially if it is listed as a seperate quest in the G.E.C.K.---bleep196- 06:33, August 31, 2011 (UTC)
Merge tag removed. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 15:37, September 27, 2011 (UTC)

This is bugged out totally.. It is always the one right in front of the idiot with glasses terminal that have both check and access. Then when it jumps it is only able to check. So I check it and tries to move on. Then NO FRIGGIN LUCK. And it is NOT 60 seconds. More closely to 10 totally. So it is impossible to accomplish this. I think it got bugged when doing the science check..

Yep. As I thought.. If you don't do the Science check and tries to find the terminals it's a walk in the park.. If you do de check it gets impossible. This is on PC latest patch (2011-10-29)

Update: 2014[]

When I encountered this requirement and began the quest, at no point in my conversations with Ibsen did I receive the option to use the Science speech challenge (with a modified 100 Sci). This might be why it didn't glitch (maybe a newer update to the sys?). I just slogged through it old-style: saving immediately after each success. Other than being annoying (with longer than usual load times between tries), it worked out in a straight-forward manner.

Good luck!

Broken Circuit Breaker[]

A video was recently uploaded showcasing a circuit breaker in the Hidden Valley Bunker that trivialized the Computer Virus quest by shutting down all but 3 terminals. I did some cursory digging and found a few post that mentioned that in the vanilla game this Breaker is bugged such that you cant interact with it in first person mode; meaning it went virtually unnoticed until the associated bug was patched by YUP. I was wondering if anyone could confirm this to be the case, and possibly add informatoon about it to the quest page.

I just checked this on vanilla FNV, the dude on reddit was right. The circuit breaker is indeed functional, but tricky to interact with. I managed to get it done by standing to the right of it, and slowly turning the crosshair to the left, away from the breaker. This eventually lead to the interaction prompt showing up. So it is totally possible to interact with it without YUP. I will add this to the quest page, thanks for finding it. –FindabairMini-JSPnP LogoThe benefit of the doubt is often doubtful. 08:48, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
