Possible bug[]

Possible bug: I defeated Roy Phillips (actually I put a grenade in his pocket, but that's beside the point), then I went and found Rockopolis and Argyle, looting some caps from his corpse. When I returned to Daring Dashwood, he commented on my defeating the Ghouls, but I don't have any dialog options or anything to talk about Argyle.—ErzengelLichtes (Contribs) 23:39, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

I think maybe since you killed Roy that he thinks your a ghoul "Biggot" or however you spell it so he doesnt want to talk to a Biggot about his ghoul friend but not sure if the AI for him is that smart.

Well all he said was "I didn't think you were that tough. People around here are starting to act like normal again." Then when I talked to him again, there was a definite bug: "Glad you got people around here to open their minds. The ghouls will definitely add flavor to the place" (or something like that). I think it just become confused because I didn't talk to him to release the "tenpenny tower completed" script, and so it wasn't able to add the new "argyle found" script in. This was either shoddy testing or the devs waived the bug. I might travel back to rockopolis to see if I can trigger it again. —ErzengelLichtes (Contribs) 23:39, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Same problem with Herbert's dialog options not including Argyle. I found Argyle after starting but before completing the Tenpenny Tower quest, and went to Herbert with that information after completing the quest. I completed the quest by allowing the Ghouls to move in, though, so the common thread seems to be the quest, not how you resolve it. 24.230.186.48 02:05, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'm gonna try a variety of things to see if it "fixes" this bug which has affected me, like visiting Rockopolis again. If it doesn't work, I'll just get my followers to kill Dashwood. Which is sad, because I like the fellow. But I like the safe. GeneralGoose 22:49, September 11, 2009 (UTC)
Yes, there is a bug that prevents you from reporting Argyle's death to Dashwood if the Tenpenny Tower quest is completed. I found the error in the GECK CS and fixed it. The problem is that this topic is marked as MS12 quest topic (Tenpenny Tower quest) and if you complete a quest, F3 engine will not display any topics associated with a quest that has been completed. If you are on the PC, you need to create a copy of the topic and assign it as MS12Fin quest topic, which is never completed. You also need to extract the Dashwood voiceover ogg files from menuvoices.bsa and put them in the Data directory (the exact folder and file names can be looked up in the GECK when you create a copy of the topic). This will allow you to report Argyle's death to Dashwood even after the quest is over. Also, it is probably a good idea to remove the weird slaughter of the residents by the ghouls, this can be achieved through the GECK as well, otherwise Roy Phillips kills Dashwood and you can't report Argyle's death to him. It seems Dashwood's body contains the key to his safe, but sometimes the dead residents in the basement are not spawned properly. If you are on the console, be sure to report Argyle's death before siding either with Gustavo or Phillips. WRFan 19:54, December 13, 2009 (UTC)

X-Files reference[]

I kinda feel like a nerd for this and I don't know if it's relevant enough to be put in the article, but I noticed that when Argyle rips out Penelope's heart Dash tells him that his kung-fu is the best. This is most likely a refrence to the episode "Unusual Suspects" where Richard makes the other Lone Gunmen admit that his kung-fu is the best before he hacks into the FBI database. Guruthegreat 08:47, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

But that line itself was a reference to Kevin Mitnick, a rather famous hacker who taunted investigaters with that term. I think it is much more likely that the line is a reference to this, or just the fact that the phrase has caught on amongst nerds, than that X-Files episode. 24.177.122.92 05:39, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

The phrase was fairly popular before it was on X-Files. Sohmc 18:47, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism[]

Someone has tampered with the green box-thingy and addad quite a few not-so-true facts about him. I would remove it myself, but I can't find the "Edit" button for that section... 213.65.69.18 21:30, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Er... no they havent... Fat Man Spoon 21:39, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
They had. I saw it, but someone had already changed it back by the time I went to do so.--Niksilp 21:40, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
When the hell was this? Over a month ago? I looked through the history... Fat Man Spoon 21:47, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
I have no clue. I didn't see the edits in the history either, but I know I saw the vandalism.--Niksilp 21:49, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
What was the vandalism? Fat Man Spoon 22:02, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
The info box had extra sections, and most of the sections were changed. IE, it had "Family: Nova, 4 kids" and "Skills: Melee Weapons, Energy Weapons, etc." (yes, it really did say "etc.").--Niksilp 22:03, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED! Someone changed the character template so ALL character boxes had that in. I fixed it though. Fat Man Spoon 22:06, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
That would explain why it wasn't in the history. Good catch!--Niksilp 22:08, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Ponderus[]

If you get the Ghouls in, do they kill him, and if so, why? he likes Ghouls, Im surprised they'd kill the one human there that likes them.(Maverick21 07:20, 18 July 2009 (UTC))

  • Yes they kill him, but they are feral, and have no connection with him even if they were thinking ghouls. Needless to say, the only ghouls that could think there were murderers anyways. -DinoBenn 07:46, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

He means if you talk the people at Tenpenny in to letting the Ghouls in without a fight. After about a day, all the humans in Tenpenny Tower dissapear, and you can find thier bodies in the basement.

Making young Dashwood[]

I Made a young Herbert Dashwood as my character but stuck on ideas. Anyone know what young dashwood might have worn in the Radio Brodcast days?

I'd have worn a three piece suit. HerbertDaringDashwood 14:00, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

-I am currently making an Argyle build, having lots of fun with it. Because it isn't specified you can wear what you want, just be sure to use a shotgun b/c it is what Dashwood uses at Tenpenny Tower

Ha! Argyle wears a Merc Grunt Outfit, you should too. The only weapon he uses is a 10mm Pistol, so you need to have a nice cushy unarmed skill. And beat people to death with your bare hands. Nitty 01:23, September 8, 2009 (UTC)
Argyle wore the grunter because of his "Man-Servent" position. Dashwood must have been upperclass considering he lives in Tenpenny tower. He must have dressed well also considering the ladies fell for him. I would think a Pre-War outfit of some kind but no idea which one. I like Tenpenny's suit. Maybe Dashwood gave him the suit in order for residance in Tenpenny Tower?
Anymore thoughts anyone?
Dashwood wears Apocalypse gladiator armor during his travels. Nitty 00:30, September 10, 2009 (UTC)
So basically Metal Armor? They look the same, the problem is I dont have Fallout 3 for the computer yet, only 360.
No, you must find the AGA in the wasteland; it's in the same place as the M60. Nitty 00:42, September 10, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah um dude, M60 was in Fallout 2 and Tactics. The AGA is only accessable through Console commands. Either your confused or being stupid.
Ok enough messing, seriously, im using the game to write a fan fic and I need an idea of what he might have worn
Well, Leather Armor is both badass and functional. Nitty 23:15, September 10, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, Im gathering a mess of outfits and Leather isnt that bad but what about a Merc outfit?

Well, the Wasteland Legend Outfit is nice. Nitty 01:42, September 11, 2009 (UTC)

You can get that without Point Lookout right?
Where did you get the idea that he wears Apocalypse gladiator armor, Nitty? What he wears is never mentioned on GNR or when talking to him in-person. Telos 08:32, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Herbert Dashwood's loot[]

It seems that no matter what I take from his safe, Herbert becomes hostile (XBOX 360 with the latest patch + broken steel add-on). I even lose Karma if I take stuff from his safe after he dies. Anyone else experience this? --Sohmc 18:49, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it's a bug and what's really funny about this is that the Unofficial Fallout Patch attempts to fix this, but their script contains an error as well, so it's not working properly. The ownership of the safe should be changed at the moment Dashwood gives you the key to his safe. You can fix this in the GECK if you are on the PC. WRFan 19:57, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
I think it's just there to explain how much I hate the Xbox. HerbertDaringDashwood 14:09, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

Dashwood lives and I get ghoul mask[]

Before I annoy actually decent players with my stupid question I would like to say that the tenpenny tower quest SUCKS if your charachter is nuetral or good. In fact the only reason I want to do this quest is for the ghoul mask and XP but it seems that any attempt to obtain the ghoul mask ends with Herbert Dashwood's death and he's my favorite character. I dont care much for the other residents. So is there any way to get the ghoul mask and save dashwood. what if i got the residents to agree to let roy and his people in and then as soon as i get the mask i kill them all. Any ideas?

Wrong Key[]

Not sure if this would be classified as a bug, I killed Roy Phillips before talking to Dashwood so the conversation with Argyle never came up. I pickpocketed him and he was holding "Tenpenny Resident's Key", which does not open the safe. His own key is not on his person. Doreiku Kuroofangu 17:11, September 11, 2011 (UTC)
