Thank you Error1 for the image!

I have uploaded the PSD file to FilesHost if anyone would like to help me out or fix issues. Here is the link: http://www.fileshost.com/download.php?id=F545FD391 K2chris1983 23:06, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

The map[]

Not to be rude, but guys, can anybody see anything on the map with that resolution? Seriously?

Please...

UPD. Yepp, I'm stupid :) Sorry. And thanks :)

Hahaha, It's ok man! This map is not mine so I'm working on getting a new one up and trying to copy the idea of Fallout 3 map. It may take awhile (fulltime job) but I'm going to work on it until someone replaces my idea. For anyone else that's having issues seeing the map, the full image links are below.

Regards,

K2chris1983 20:31, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

The current map is kinda crappy. Thats why I'm working on a better one (changed and enhanced backcolor [black sux], adding "quadrant sub lines" etc ....

WIP map looks something like this:

New Vegas Map 4

Original map size: 4000 x 4000 Kirgan2000

Well that depends on the people here Kirgan2000 and all the others who worked on the map. You cannot just go and change peoples pages without talking because the Admin/Mod will remove it and lock it. Also the map MUST follow the Fallout 3 map. If you want the color to change I can do that easy without issues. Porter21 (Admin) already likes the layout of what I have and what others did to it. He also could be making a map where people can add stuff without Paint/Photoshop. K2chris1983 22:09, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

Like I said, the map I'm working on isn't finished yet. I simply think the black layout and putting markers on the map where they "might" be right (s few pix left/up/down ... bah .. who cares) isn't the right thing. The FO3 map had a nice subquadrant touch .. so why don't we stick to it? We already have the lines, they just need to be enhanced ... And come on ... compared to the map of FO3 .. this map shouldnt be called a map at all (no offence ment to all he ppl here, who contributed a lot of time and work), but it really looks shitty .. you can't read anything on it .. the numbering is out of place ... just to mention a few things I dun like about this map.

--Kirgan2000 22:17, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

I agree Kirgan2000, it was the only thing that we had at the time to work with. If your map is better and if peeps like it, I do not see a reason not to allow it. The numbers are line up for the grid inside, or are you talking about the makers? Well, the makers was given out or people pickup where I left or others did. The map scale is down to fit inside the frame, but yea it's a little hard to read; you can click on it for full scale or move your mouse over the locations for its name. Anyways, finish your map and let us see it! What time frame do you have for this map?

Cheers, K2chris1983 22:34, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

@ K2chris1983

Can't give an excact timeframe .. the blank map should be finished by the end of this week (will upload the jpg on imageshack for further use). It's very time consuming to do the lining (I wanna play FNV a bit too ;) )

If I find the time, I'm gonna add some initial markers ( like vaults or so in the second version )

[edit] with instructions on what font / size I used

Yours Kirgan2K

--Kirgan2000 22:42, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

Are you using Photoshop? You can make grids very fast with that, just use Paint Bucket with your pattern. Font, I used Calibri with 11pt sharp. K2chris1983 22:47, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

Finished clean map can be found here: FNV 3500 x 3500 JPG --Kirgan2000 15:23, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

Nice Nice, I got a requested from DannyShotgun that we or you should put "colorize faction specific locations". Like Fallout 3 map for Major locations I guess.

OK, why not .. any color suggestions? vaults = black / unmarked places = grey / Legion = red* / NCR = brown* / BoS = maybe some greyish blue* (steel ;) / Powder Gang = blue* / other places = dunno

  • due to their favorite armor color

--Kirgan2000 16:21, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good, how about the Khans, Boomers, Fiends? How about Followers of the Apocalypse? Mmmm going to be a lot of color on that map! haha K2chris1983 16:45, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

Yep, and thats what I'm afraid off .. color overkill :( [edit] maybe sticking to the FO3 basics would be best (red / black / grey / green) and putting the fraction in the description --Kirgan2000 17:02, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, that would be the best and to keep it simple. We also have to do the imagemap for it, so the links works too, but that's letter on. K2chris1983 17:04, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

~There aren't a whole lot I was think of. I guess specifically just the NCR, Legion and Powder Gangers. I think the rest only have one or two. Like no need to spot the BoS, Novac or Goodsprings, since there's only one of each. +DannyShotgun 05:55, November 25, 2010 (UTC)

K .. I'll redo the map with the old colors and renumber them according to FO3 behavior (gridbased sorting from top left to bottom right) ... f. e A1 = Nellis Hangars / A2 = Nellis Array ..... ( will add a file with the new numbering ) --Kirgan2000 17:12, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

First batch of locations done ... some locations

A1 = Nellis Hangar / A2 = Nellis Array / A3 = Brooks Tumbleweed Ranch / A4 = Horowitz Farmstead / A5 = Northern Passage / A6 = Charleston Cave / A7 = Ruby Hill Mine / A8 = Followers Safehouse / A9 = Griffin Wares Sacked Caravan / B1 = Westside West Entrance / B2 = Miguel's Pawn Shop / B3 = H&H Tools Factory / B4 = North Vegas Square / B5 = Freeside's North Gate / B6 = Mole Rat Ranch / B7 = Fields' Shack / B8 = Nellis Air Force Base --Kirgan2000 18:07, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

MAP SIZE: resolution problem I think downsizing the map could be a problem. *sigh* I checked diffenent resolutions 6xx / 7xx / 8xx / 9xx

To sum it up: a resolution below 1000 x 1000 is still crap :( You sometimes can't read the markers ... A possible solution to the problem coud be .. split the map in 4 quadrants, which would require to split the map page into 4 subpages ... :( *even more sighing*

Does anyone has a good idea to fix this problem ... (For reference check out the map above "some locations")

--Kirgan2000 17:49, November 26, 2010 (UTC)

Porter21 could have some answers to this issue as he was the helper for Fallout 3 map. Also lets check the resolution of the old map (Fallout 3 map) and the size of the letters, fonts, etc. K2chris1983 18:44, November 28, 2010 (UTC)

20101129 - Added U1 to U4 Locations, Added Factions to the table of Primary Locations, Tried to remove Change Log but was an Epic Fail (Thanks Deadlykris, LoL), Added PSD file to Fileshost.com. K2chris1983 23:05, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

20101120 - Changed Vertical and Horizontal (were mixed up) ... Horizontal = from left to right not from top to bottom. --87.144.78.58 17:09, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

20101130 - Changing the Y Axis and X Axis back. The vertical and horizontal lines that make up the Cartesian of a coordinate system are the vertical axis which is y axis and the horizontal axis which is x axis. Image below displays why the x axis is below the map and the y axis is the right of the map.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0e/Cartesian-coordinate-system.svg

K2chris1983 18:21, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Horizontal is still from left to right .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizontal_plane Maybe you should rename it to X and Y Axis. ;-) --Kirgan2000 18:27, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

X Axis equals Horizontal, so the numbers below the image are X Axis/Horizontal. Maps follow the Cartesian coordinate system and so does Fallout 3 map. K2chris1983 18:35, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Still weird in my opinion, but thats ok :-) --Kirgan2000 18:39, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

20101209 - Changed 'None' to '-' due to visibility and to make the sorting by fractions putting them not within the real fractions. Added NCR to last ranger locations. [edit] Had to use '--' due to sorting problems. --Kirgan2000 18:07, December 9, 2010 (UTC)

20101210 - Changed description of D3 'New Vegas Strip' to 'The Strip North Gate' according to map marker. --Kirgan2000 17:50, December 10, 2010 (UTC)

20101212 - Full overhaul of the map. Added missing locations, corrected some names due to ingame markers, put the locations into a grid. --Kirgan2000 11:32, December 12, 2010 (UTC)

Reverted the edit as the red markers on red map make it impossible to find map markers, also it hurt my eyes, stay with a simple black map with enhanced grid lines and keep it simple. ☣Avatar☣ 23:16, December 14, 2010 (UTC)

You should at least add the missing markers from the other map.

To what markers are you talking about? I know we're missing some markers which I haven't added yet but will do sometime soon. If we're missing markers, we need to know the names of those makers so we can add them. Don't say we're missing markers and don't tell us what they are. K2chris1983 16:14, December 16, 2010 (UTC)

Just take a look at the "hurting eye map" ... :D And to name the locations: Ant Mound / Cassidy Caravans Wreckage / Ranger Morales' Corpse / Southern Nevada Wind Farm / The Prospector's Den / and the one that was recently added (the one, if Rex is your companion).

Thank you, I will try to add those locations this weekend. K2chris1983 20:47, December 16, 2010 (UTC)

Illegal map[]

The map that was made for GameFAQ/Supercheats is exclusive and thus is not allowed here. DMZ Sniper 22:29, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

If a Mod/Admin would like to remove it, they can but they not done so. The map is only there for temp reasons, and once the Fallout: New Vegas map is done. I'll remove that "exclusive" map.... K2chris1983 18:44, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
The map is all over the internet, and some websites even claim it's theirs. It's also in the official Fallout strategy guide. No I can't honestly say there is anything wrong with keeping the map here. Just remove it if a single complaint comes in from the original copyright holder (witch is very unlikely I guess). --94.212.252.40 20:19, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

IMPORTANT! IMMEDIATE REMOVAL REQUESTED. Please remove this map immediately. It is indeed exclusively made for GameFAQs/Supercheats.com. Feel free to use the information (and give credits, don't claim you did it all yourself) but don't repost the map and cut it in half without even asking for permission. And to be perfectly honest, I have no idea why you're going to make another map when this one does the job just fine, and gets more traffic than any other location map will ever get. Bottom line, stop stealing and please remove the map immediately. - Absolute Steve

The map has been removed. If it comes out that you were not entirely truthful about the copyright status of the map, you will not be welcome here any longer. --Kris User Hola 10:24, November 24, 2010 (UTC)
After a quick review of the situation, the map has been restored. This map bears no resemblance to the GameFaqs map, or should I say maps - the GameFaqs.com maps are split in two, one covering the northern half and one the southern half. Please refrain from making false copyright claims again. --Kris User Hola 10:29, November 24, 2010 (UTC)
Well, the first map even has Absolute Steve's credit in it, so it seems like a copy/paste job based on Steve's map. I have removed them; I don't see much purpose in maintaining multiple maps anyway, it's better to focus on our own. -- Porter21 (talk) 13:11, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, it was a copy/paste job because we had no map at the time (It was temp reasons). I also never, never claim that the map was my work! I also left the credits on his map for copyright reasons, and I got this map from a different site too. Oh well K2chris1983 15:55, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

As I already said on my talk page, I'm not accusing you of malicious intent (otherwise you'd have removed the credit), but if it's his work he has the right to ask for it to be removed. -- Porter21 (talk) 16:38, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

I know you're not accusing me, which I just said on your talk! LoL K2chris1983 16:40, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

@ Deadlykris: Please refrain from banning people for several days without knowing what you're talking about. How hard can it be to interpret "GameFAQs/SuperCheats exclusive"? - Steve

@Steve: No reason to comment anymore because we have solved your issue. K2chris1983 15:49, December 9, 2010 (UTC)

How many?[]

The very top map says blue icons indicate the location of Vaults? There are.... Two blue locations on said map? There are far more Vaults than two, I myself have found Vaults: 3, 11, 34, 22 and 19... So this map isn't accurate... Just saying.

If you read a little bit more, you'll see this at the bottom of List of Locations: "This section is being worked on, if you want a complete list of locations see Fallout: New Vegas places." So, the map is not fully done yet because only two people are working on this project. If you would like to help, contact Me or Some1Pr0, until then sit back and wait... K2chris1983 16:04, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Nopah Cave[]

The map marker is not in the correct area. As the page says, it should be east of Red Rock Canyon, near the western edge of the New Vegas outskirts and fiend territory.

Fixed K1 & K2 locations, both locations was wrong, and thank you for pointing that out! K2chris1983 16:10, November 17, 2010 (UTC)

NCR Safehouse[]

There should be NCR Ranger Safehouse in 10 hor, 11 ver, i guess. Can somebody add it? Thanks

Yes, I can add it. I will add it sometime tonight if that's ok with you. I also noticed people added more locations to the list but never added the map marker. Those will be done hopefully tonight! K2chris1983 21:09, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

Just added the location for ya, Enjoy! P.S. Thank you! K2chris1983 22:56, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

Faction[]

To some request about faction being in the map, I think it's to much color (Thanks Kirgan2000) and overwhelming to the map. I'll add a column to the location list for faction which will correspond to the location and wikia link. You can also sort by A to Z or Z to A. I think this is the best way to keep things simple (KISS)and to the point. Anyone is welcome to add faction name to the right corresponding "List of Locations" table. K2chris1983 21:19, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

Missing locations[]

hello, fyi the map is currently missing Cassidy Caravan Wreckage and Ant Mound, near Allied Technologies Offices. thx--Morty343 08:47, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

Hello Morty,

I will add those soon, just done with the Holiday weekend and dealing with EA. So, I should have some free time on my hands here soon. Thanks!

K2chris1983 15:51, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

You could add some more locations: f.e. companion specific locations like (Gibson's Shack, the well that will Rex show you) or the locations with special encounters (w/o Wild Wasteland perk) --Kirgan2000 19:51, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

hey guys just wondering why no one has noticed there isnt an interactive link on the map for the Casa Madrid Apartments...i would add it but i wouldnt know how lol i know a bit of html but that was jibberish to me. --HU1212ICAN3--I Came. I Saw. I Destroyed 01:19, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

Why[]

I would like to ask as to why the west and northern edges of the map are blocked off in game. It seems pointless to have it there if you can't use it.--Blahmarrow 00:41, March 19, 2011 (UTC)

It could be unlock when they add more add-ons, who knows until then. --K2Chris1983

What's a PM location? Is the map done yet?[]

Standard practice is to use abbreviations and jargon after full references. What does PM stand for? Primary? Pretty Meaty? Poor Monetarily?

On a related note:

Perhaps the location colors should be reworked. It looks very unfinished.

  • The colors could reflect who the default current owner faction is, or split colors to show if it's up for grabs.
  • In that same vein, location color could at least be set based on location type. The vaults are already differentiated, even though they play a far less integral role in the game compared to settlements or military camps.
  • This game is primarily about the dam conflict, not vault dwellers, it may be more useful for the map to reflect this.
  • There are at least a couple unmarked locations that could be considered major and would be beneficial to list.

The game's been out for a year. All the DLCs have been released. It's time to reflect that in the refinement of one of the most utilized article pages.--Xclockwatcher 18:38, November 13, 2011 (UTC)

yes, i have to agree with Xclockwatcher...this wikia is poorly kept. i mean, its been out for what?...a year and a half? i just put a post on the missing locations section sayying that the Casa Madrid Apartments arent on the map! dont be hatin on the "escort" house...lmao its all they can afford... --HU1212ICAN3--I Came. I Saw. I Destroyed 01:28, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

It probably has something to do with the Casa Madrid having no map marker and it being just a building inside a larger area. Paladin117>>iff bored; 01:38, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

well it is part of some quests and its also a trigger point for veronica as stated on this page: [1] i just thought it would be a handy spot for the map... --HU1212ICAN3--I Came. I Saw. I Destroyed 22:11, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

One: Anyone can update the map or improve the map as long they keep the same guide lines as Fallout 3 Map.

Two: I started this project because no one else started it or keep the map on a guide line.

Three: This map is for the people who play this game and it is up to them to keep it current.

Four: I dropped out and was hoping someone will take my place to finish this project.... As look of it, no one has...

Five: I will try my best to update this map but I need help from you ALL!

--K2chris1983 (talk) 18:24, April 5, 2013 (UTC)

Back![]

Sorry about that, I have been gone for some time... Any updates needed? lol --K2chris1983 (talk) 18:15, April 5, 2013 (UTC)

Pleximap[]

(Copied from user talk page)

I noticed earlier you deleted a significant section from the Fallout: New Vegas map covering the early Mojave map seen at Hidden Valley and the Remnants bunker (nv_pleximap01) and simply left the image in the page gallery without context. Could you explain why? Deleting the section in its entirety with no edit summary really falls short of wiki etiquette and honestly is borderline vandalism. I'm further bewildered because you were fine with the same section in October of 2020, even making a few tweaks to wording at that time. Aside from the dubious way in which the section was expunged from the page, the entire page is objectively worse off now for it. Looking forward to positive dialogue on how this issue can be fixed and the page made more useful for readers. ManOfSteel1994 (talk) 20:45, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

I received your message and apologize for not leaving a more in-depth edit summary, that is on me and I will be more mindful in the future. I disagree with your assessment that the edit to the article was "borderline vandalism" as well as the assertion that the "entire page is objectively worse off now." I removed speculation as to the nature of a texture file (/nv_pleximap01.dds). We have no indication that it was an "early version of the final game map" from the texture alone. Stating anything to the contrary is speculation, which is not allowed. I hope that clarifies the changes I made. Feel free to reach out with any other thoughts. I have copied this to/from your talk page as well. -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 21:03, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
