Luck in gambling[]

Does luck make it easier to win in Casinos ? Sinusha 13:38, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

It seems to. My character has a 9 luck and I win blackjack nearly 100% of the time. Far more often than my skill and/or the actual odds should allow. Not so sure about the slots or roulette. 67.149.196.9 07:53, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

I don't play low luck characters, but does seem to effect slots I can't seem to lose money at them. Definitely does in blackjack, and not just in what cards I get to start with but what cards I draw as well with luck of 10 even drawing on 17 I rarely bust and I have gotten blackjack itself 3 times in a row frequently. Not sure about the roulette, It is a bit harder to test, but I didn't see my number coming up even after 20 plays or if it is in effect not as noticeable while playing a single number. When my next character gets back to Freeside in a day or two I'll do few hundred spins on the roulette wheel and try to see how it is work.

Yeah I've only got 2 points in luck and have only ever won once in slots. P.png Jax-Kenobi P.png 22:25, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

FO:NV[]

in my opinion for a shooter type in new vegas these are the best 2 build choices:

5 str, 5 per, 5 end, 1 cha, 6 int, 9 agi, 9 luc

that build will give you slightly more skill points. you would get implants for str, per, agi, luc, and dermal plating.

5 str, 5 per, 7 end, 1 cha, 4 int, 9 agi, 9 luc

that build will give you slightly more health and resistances. you would get implants for str, per, end, agi, luc, dermal plating, and health regeneration.

the reasons i say this.

str 5 (6 with implant), and taking weapon handling perk, will let you handle any weapon up to 8 str requirement and with power armor up to 10.

per 5 (6 with implant), will allow you to take better criticals perk

end 5 , because you need a minimum of 5 to get the required 4 implants + dermal plating

cha 1 because charisma doesnt really do anything except give you minor skill points and buff your companions.

int 4 , because you need a minimum of 4 int to get educated and comprehension perks for skill points.

agi 9 (10 with implant) because agility determines total AP, AP regeneration speed, run speed, reload speed, and draw speed.

luc 9 (10 with implant) because luck determines your critical hit rate

that leaves 2 points left over, and in my opinion the best choices are either to put them into Int for an additional 29 skill points, or to put them in End for more health, resistances, and a couple more implants.

Perception and Accuracy in New Vegas[]

I keep hearing that perception doesn't actually effect accuracy. The Perception page even says as much in the New Vegas section. This despite the in game description which explicitly says that it does. Can anyone confirm or refute this? 67.149.196.9 15:45, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

I've tested enough to convince myself that Perception does not affect accuracy. I took the varmint rifle with scope and let off a bunch of shots at a wall a fair distance away, once with a 1 and 10 agility character each. Still in scope view and without adjusting the aim, I measured (with a ruler on the TV) the maximum spread. It was the same for both characters. Brightshade782 02:08, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

Weapon Handling[]

Weapon Handling has been listed previously under STR 7 requirement, but it has no such requirement (it merely requires STR of 9 or less).

Charisma - Increased non-player character disposition[]

FNV : What is "increased non-player character disposition" ? DOES Charisma affect NPC disposition in FNV ? Or is this only FO3 ? The only 2 examples I have seen where CH affects dialog at all is Corporal Betsy who will flirt with you if CH 7+ and you are female, and mini-boomers who give unique dialog options if CH 7+ and you play with them. Are there any examples of increased NPC disposition ? - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 16:31, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

Circling back around to my post from a few years ago. Google search revealed conflicting answers ...
  1. I'm adding one place in geck to look ... in edit > find text you can search for disposition and it returns a lot of results, most of it about kids. I'm not sure what all it means, but I found it, haha !
  2. someone on Reddit (that is generally pretty reliable) says: "Disposition is a holdover from Oblivion, where characters may not speak or trade with you under some conditions. It is never actually used."
  3. Another says: "Disposition is in fact a number that exists in the game, and low disposition will (apparently, according to someone who looked at the code) make NPCs hate you". Here's the link they attached https://geckwiki.com/index.php?title=Disposition_Formula_(New_Vegas)
  4. Another goes into lots of detail, I have no idea if they're correct: "Higher Charisma ... (is) the main way to affect an NPC's Disposition towards the player. It also affects situations like how many items you can be caught stealing before you're attacked instead of just having them taken away.
This isn't Elder Scrolls, so you don't have a spell to boost this directly, but internally it's how the game decides on whether or not holstering your weapon is forgiven or not. Better disposition, the more you can anger someone (like by shooting them) before they refuse to acknowledge you and keep attacking. Keep your damage on them low, such as by confining your shots to the weapon itself, for optimal success.
And yes, Fallout 3 and New Vegas use Oblivion's style, while Fallout 4 & 76 use Skyrim' style, as outlined in the link above (https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Disposition); though there currently aren't any situations in Appalachia where this comes up."
And continued with: "(snip)It's in the engine; you can adjust the relevant values like Charisma, then see the results yourself. The factions also explicitly include a section for Disposition modifiers, which provides a more immediate example of how these function.
(snip) Game-specific mechanics like being arrested aren't in Fallout despite the frameworks to do so remaining, but it's basically like this. If you want due diligence, check the variables that show exactly what numbers are affected by what actions. In the GECK, pull up the Gameplay menu, then Settings, and search for "Disp" to see most of the relevant numbers."

Nominate this page for deletion[]

I am opening a discussion about nominating this page for deletion and 1. merging the little bit of info on this page over to the Fallout: New Vegas SPECIAL page, with a redirect from primary statistics to that page. 2. In the geck, Character > Actor Values it lists the primary statistics as the 7 SPECIAL, so it's basically just another way to say the same thing. Nothing else is a primary statistic in geck. 3. But a user does not know this and is searching the wiki for SPECIAL not "primary statistics". 4. It's disjointed to have most of the info & tables about SPECIAL on that page, but inexplicably have 2 tables pertaining to SPECIAL on a different page. 5. Another option is to have this page actually address what is a "primary statistic" instead of just dumping 2 tables on the page with no description of what it is or what it means. Or, that info could instead just be added to the SPECIAL page, or a link to the main overview primary statistic page, which either would render this page not needed. 6. Scribe-Howard suggested the main Primary statistic page be merged with SPECIAL 03:46, November 14, 2020 "these are the same thing. SPECIAL is what's used in-game". In that same manner as S-H's suggestion, this merge & deletion/redirect should be done for ALL the games, not just FNV. 7. Another option is to keep just the main overview Primary statistic page and have the links in the 'overviews per game' infobox link to each game's SPECIAL page instead of a primary statistics page, merging all the subpages of primary statistic to their SPECIAL pages. This is my choice on how to handle it (leave the main page, change the links, merge to SPECIAL then delete/redirect for all the game specific subpages). 8. In the meanwhile, I have started a rework/cleanup of the FNV SPECIAL page which I should have ready in a day or two. - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 15:22, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
