Hachets?! Damn, that just makes the melee list even more awesome. Hopefully this'll mean we'll have tomahawks too.--Volundarkvioa 22:09, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

Can anyone get the full list from GECK? that would be useful.

That Gun[]

Since That Gun is a revolver, does it count towards the cowboy perk as well? 71.105.140.83 09:33, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

I checked with the GECK. That Gun does *not* benefit from the Cowboy perk. Vel8 15:40, October 30, 2010 (UTC)

But it does now that the 1.2 patch is out. --Delta1138 SnooPING AS usual I see 16:00, February 18, 2011 (UTC)

Good work, though don't be offended if I wait for an admin to check it out in the geck before allowing changes. Mictlantecuhtli 10:59, October 30, 2010 (UTC)
I made a change to the page but then noticed an error that made my data suspect; I've reverted my changes until I can track down the accurate info, at which time I can give a full and complete list of the affected weapons. --Kris User Hola 11:09, October 30, 2010 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for checking it out Kris. I'm pretty sure it does benefit dynamite, as Cowboy and 1 rank of demolitions expert can boost the damage up to 99 with only 70 in explosives. Mictlantecuhtli 11:14, October 30, 2010 (UTC)

Ok, here's the complete list in the order it is in the form list that controls the perk, in the GECK:

Time bomb
Abilene Kid LE BB Gun
BB gun
Throwing hatchet
Throwing knife
Chance's Knife
Hatchet
Combat knife
Knife
Long fuse dynamite
Dynamite
Trail carbine
Brush gun
Lever action shotgun
La Longue Carabine
Cowboy repeater
Hunting revolver
Ranger Sequoia
Mysterious Magnum
.44 Magnum revolver
Lucky
.357 magnum revolver

All these weapons, and none others (that means no That Gun) are affected. --Kris User Hola 11:22, October 30, 2010 (UTC)

Edited to reflect the weapons it affects. Mictlantecuhtli 11:34, October 30, 2010 (UTC)

This list has to be out of date my anti-materiel rifle only did 111 dmg per shot before this perk, now its doing 144dmg my hunting rifle is affected as well, its getting 68dmg per shot, maybe its a glitch idk, im using the GRA version of the anti-materiel rifle, but i got the standared one just to check and it does the same dmg amount also. im on the 360 so i dont have access to the geck, someone look into this for me?--71.59.180.132 06:23, May 12, 2012 (UTC)

other knives[]

Does this work with the switchblade and machete?

uhm shouldn't hunting revolver and ranger sequoia be on the list?

What the Hell J.E.?[]

Sawyer openly stated that this gun was affected by cowboy. I know I probably shouldn't get too worked up over this, but as one of the lead people overseeing the game, it would make sense that he'd check before saying that. This seems silly of him.--L3377MA573R 20:49, October 30, 2010 (UTC)

Critical Hits[]

Does anyone know if Cowboy affects either regular critical hits or sneak attack criticals? Insincerity 17:45, November 18, 2010 (UTC)

No, critical damage is figured entirely seperate from a weapons normal damage. Cowboy (and most all generic damage perks) only affect a weapons BASE DAMAGE. Though base damage is usually the same as critical damage, they ARE seperate weapon statistics and aren't affected by perks such as cowboy. However since base damage applies first and critical damage is added on top of that, an increase in base damage emans a very slight increase overall, though in this case it would be closer to 10% overall instead of 25%. This number lessens the more critical-hit modifying perks you have such as Better Criticals since critical damage will be then be vastly overshadowing base damage.

Worth it?[]

Is it just me or is this perk insanely good even if only for the 25% damage boost to revolvers and lever action rifles? I mean sure, dynamite is crap when it comes to explosives and there are better melee weapons out there than knives and hatchets - but this is a quarter damage boost on some of the best guns in the game we're talking about. Seems very enticing to slap in about 40 to 50 in melee just to be able to get this perk on a gun-based character...--Frosty. 17:48, December 5, 2010 (UTC)

I never use guns anymore, I always go with explosives, melee (thermic lance/chainsaw) or energy weapons. Mictlantecuhtli 17:55, December 5, 2010 (UTC)

I too barely use guns :/ I usually use the FatMan, Oh Baby! Anti-Materiel Rifle and just Love and Hate, basically I pwn everythign in the game with those hands down -_-

I second Frosty. I rarely use melee, but it's just too useful given the plethora of firearms affected by this perk. --Delta1138 SnooPING AS usual I see 16:02, February 18, 2011 (UTC)

I dunno about the rest, but the problem for me is I use vats, and in vats when lever-action guns are reloading, you can't interrupt it to shoot. So I stray away from lever action guns now. 76.198.70.129 22:55, July 8, 2011 (UTC)
Grunt is better if you have done Honest Hearts and have the new weapons found there. Besides, explosives are more of a brute force type of weapon, we prefer to use finesse.DarthOrc 23:09, July 8, 2011 (UTC)DarthOrc
Cowboy would be absolutely worth it even if it did nothing but offer a 25% boost to the brush gun's damage. The fact that this perk affects a weapon with such a high base damage almost feels broken. The Ranger Sequoia also receiving the bonus is just a bit of extra love for those of us who like the old west aesthetic. Paragost 16:21, September 16, 2011 (UTC)

Totally worth it. Medicine stick may be best rifle, mysterious magnum or lucky best handgun, all affected by this perk. If only it had an elite sniper rifle it'd be basically you're playing guns wrong if you don't get this. But it's almost that anyway. --68.62.55.57 20:21, July 11, 2015 (UTC)

OWB Axes affected?[]

Hi, everyone. The question is - does this perk affect Proton Axe, Proton Throwing Axe, etc? That would've been quite nice.

No, they are not affected.

Confirmation please[]

Someone would have noticed it by now and I might be full of shit, but is the image of the perk a reference to any movie or something like that? I don't know why but it just seems... familiar to me, but yeah I don't have much an extensive knowledge of movies, so I might be wrong. If anyone could confirm it, it would be nice to have the info added to the page.

Disapoitment?[]

After my litle adventure i noticed that most of weapon afected whit this perk are full of wiknes wich cant be contered att all in most cases. Reloding take for ever even whit 10 Agillity and Fast reaload, not mention that stoping reload dont realy help mach wen your aim is not centered and swaping weapon is not option. Most of beter weapon on list have serious problems in V.A.T.S., so for example Medicine Stick is not usable for long range shot att all and Hunting revolver have same problem in close range, mining you cant do demage to target no mather wer you target or what chance to hit you have and that is not end of problems thay have. Most of them use amunition wich is hard to get and is certenly not someting you can use a loot for combat outh of V.A.T.S. If you plan of using this perk best is to take it wen you have access to amunition and you are sure weapon of choice performin the way you need it.
