Scarlett left a complaint about the SMART choice machines that had been implemented throughout the school. Because children could turn in candy for randomized prizes, Scarlett saw this akin to gambling, which she considered an immoral and corrupting act. If the randomization of the prizes was not removed from the machines, then she would demand that they be removed from school grounds immediately.[2]
