San Onofre, or the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, was a pre-War nuclear power plant in the American state of California and is a mentioned-only location in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

On October 23, 2077, three disposal trucks were sent out from the San Onofre nuclear power plant to dispose of multiple caches of nuclear waste barrels. However, the breakout of the Great War forced the trucks to divert to Searchlight, seeking shelter in the fire station, but found it could only support two trucks. The third truck was forced to head for Cottonwood Cove further east, where it apparently ran off the cliff of the nearby overlook, remaining there for the next 200 years.[1]

The two trucks stored in the fire station proved instrumental in the sabotage orchestrated by the frumentarius Vulpes Inculta to weaken the NCR military presence at the renamed Camp Searchlight in the late 2270s, allowing forces of Caesar's Legion to enter the Mojave and establish a base at Cottonwood Cove.[2]

Appearances[]

San Onofre is mentioned only in Fallout: New Vegas.

Behind the scenes[]

San Onofre is based on the real-world San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), south of San Clemente, California. The station was permanently shut down in 2013.
