Pat Gerber was a member of the Union in the Pitt.

Background[]

Pat was the husband of Bella Gerber, a runner for the Union; the two promised to reunite once their separate work for the Union was complete.[1] He previously worked for the Local 42 division of the Union, but was transferred to the Local 29 in the Industrial district of the Pitt. Pat was assigned to hunt for some kind of monster that had been reported in the area, based on disappearances, attacks and mangled corpses. He initially thought they were products of raids by the Fanatics, but the Union's priorities changed after losing control of the Foundry.[2] Pat met up with Hex, the new leader of the Local 29, who confirmed that it was creatures they were hunting for, and not Fanatics. These creatures turned out to be trogs, and Hex showed Pat the corpse of one. Pat found that disturbances, such as Union raids, on the Fanatic-controlled Foundry would stir up the trogs and bring them out of hiding. As such, he planned to pull his own infiltration on the Foundry, based on an old route he was familiar with.[3]

Pat entered the tunnels underneath the Foundry, which he described as maze-like. He found evidence of trog activity all throughout the tunnels, including gory carnage that tested even his strong stomach. Seeing such horrifying sights gave him more motivation to exterminate the trogs for what they had done to his friends in the Union. However, Pat noticed that the radiation in the tunnels got worse the deeper he went, to the point that Rad-X was struggling to have an effect.[4] Eventually, he came face-to-face with a living trog. However, by that point, he was very much starting to feel the effects of radiation poisoning, and was too weak to fight it. The trog did not take advantage of this attack, though, it simply stared at Pat instead. It was at this point that Pat realized the trogs were once human, as he felt that the trog recognized him somehow. The trog left and Pat returned topside. Pat was confused and emotionally conflicted over the encounter, describing the feeling as being mad that the trog did not kill him, and mad that he did not kill the trog. Pat stated in his holotape log that he did not envision returning to the Local 29 anytime soon, and would simply try to find a corner to hide and recover in. His eventual fate is unknown.[5] He is believed to have become the Trog Striker that is encountered when all four of his logs are found in Union Dues.
