Background[]
During a particular meeting, Lawrence tried to convince executive David Thorpe that the terms of a certain agreement were fair and reasonable. He expressed shock at Thorpe's position of environmental laws and fair wages being "ridiculous and absurd." Thorpe rejected the agreement, claiming that the safety laws would take away 30% of the profits the company stood to gain.[1]
