Foreman Grayson was a supervisor at the quarry near Watoga operated by Atomic Mining Services, later referred to as the glassed cavern.
Background[]
Before getting a job with Atomic Mining Services, Grayson had a date with a woman at a pool hall. Though he could not remember who won the game, he always remembered the look on her face, as the two were later married.[1]
As the foreman of the glassed cavern, Grayson was confronted by one of the workers, Billy Braxton, over lowered wages and conflicts with the science staff working on the creation of ultracite when a mining accident interrupted their conversation.[2] On the day of the Great War, a bucket at drop site D4 came loose and popped, causing the mining shaft to collapse. Although most of the workers were able to escape, Grayson was left behind and stuck in the cavern. When Dr. Sally told him that China had dropped a nuke, Grayson knew he would never get out of the cavern alive. He reminisced on the memories he had with his wife, quietly singing "You Are My Sunshine" to himself.[1]
