I know I'm new around here, and I won't be surprised if absolutely nobody here has ever heard of me before, but I noticed something odd when I was checking out the stats on New Vegas weapons. If you look at the Fallout: New Vegas weapons overview page, and then look at the main article for that weapon, the stats do not match up for several weapons. For instance, the main article for the Q-35 matter modulator lists its DPS as 76.8, the overview page, however, lists its DPS as being 100. This seems to be most prevalent in the Plasma Rifle Articles, particularly the Van Graff plasma rifle , which is missing almost all of its stats from its main article, in addition to having a DPS inconsistent with the one displayed on the overview page.

After looking more thoroughly at this section, I have discovered that all of the weapons (in descending order) from the Van Graff laser rifle to the Tri-beam laser rifle (Fallout: New Vegas) with the exception of the Recharger rifle all have similar inconsistencies. Now I don't even own New Vegas, so I can't say what the correct values are, but I thought I'd bring this up. And yes, I did use search, so if a topic already exists on this, oh well, I didn't see it. And yes, the only reason I noticed this is because I'm an energy weapon fanboy who was checking out stats prior to getting the game =p.

I was going to end my post there, but since I might as well be thorough and list EVERY weapon with a major inconsistency in DPS, so someone else doesn't have to read my post and then compile a list, since after all I don't have New Vegas I can't very well help much with actually fixing the problem, so I decided to make it easier for those who want to (note I'm not going to list ones that are off by like.... 0.5, since that's not really a big deal, and I also won't be listing any of the ones previously listed, since that's tedious, and if you actually took the time to read this whole post, you should know where to look).

Anyway, here it is (in descending order as listed on the overview page):

I'm not going to do the unused weapons, seeing as they're.... unused... and my brain would explode if i did any more of this.

Ughhhhh finally done. Yes I have too much time on my hands.

Thanks for reporting all that! (Hope you don't mind me having re-formatted your post into more of a list.) FYI, one thing that is giong on is that the GECK doesn't report numbers accurately, so a lot of accurate counting is being done by hand by some of our editors. Also, the weapons pages are heavily edited by visitors, not all of whom appreciate that damage calculations need to not take into accont certain perks, etc. Again, thanks for making the list. Now we have a place to discuss and a list to check progress against. Cheers.--Gothemasticator 01:54, November 29, 2010 (UTC)
To boot, most people just edit the weapon itself, and not the list on the weapon overview page. :P Nitty Tok. 02:12, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

Sure thing, I acutally wanted to reformat it somehow to make it more organized, but quite frankly i was getting tired of working on the list, so thanks for doing that for me. I'd heard about the G.E.C.K being out of whack, but I figured that a list would make it easier to figure out what exactly needed work, so I posted it. There are still a couple of minor inconsistencies in there that I didn't list, most of them are 1 point or less, though, so I figured they were hardly worth mentioning. Also, the syntax in your signature helps me fix mine =p.

By the way, how does one go about getting that | symbol? I'd rather not have to copy and paste it every time XD

--Senza32 02:34, November 29, 2010 (UTC) This time is a lie, cuz I edited my past post with tildes not realizing they would display the same time, but whatever, it doesn't really matter.....

Shift+Backslash(\) = |, at least on my keyboard. And, you can sign by entering four tildes(~).--Gothemasticator 02:25, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, I'd tried to do that, I didn't think to hit shift, seeing as i only use the tilde key once every ten thousand years, since... well... it doesn't..... really........ have.... a purpose... XD, thanks.

Well I pretty much built a lot of that page from the adding of table etc onwards, so I can address most of your concerns. The biggest issue is flyby anon edits, mostly they are the reason for inconsistence data held within the tables. The issue is most of these contributers add data that is shown from there pipboy display in-game and not the geck, the issue with that is the displayed figures there are affected by so many factors from perks and traits to weapon conditions and PC weapon levels etc. Even those who think they have accounted for this get data wrong and result in these minor issues where the figures are out by 1, this is because they believe that the weapon condition is at 100% because the bar is full, where in fact it could actually be at 99% and not noticed.

The other issue resulting from these fly by edit is the laziness not to update both the overview and the weapon page with the same figures, which compounds the errors even further as some editors try and match them together, correcting a correct figure on one page with the wrong figure on another page. Honestly I gave up correcting most the edits in favor of waiting out the rush of edits from the release of the game and just going back and doing a mass correction.

These issue are not only resulting in incorrect damage values but extend across the whole board to the value of the item etc.

But in all honesty that whole page is still in Alpha phase as entries are still in need of being filled and new things are still being discovered. For example today I found the Plasma rifle always crit weapon hidden away in the game files along with a few other things

As for the issues of the DPS displayed in the GECK, that is a whole different matter being discussed and resolved as to whether they are correct themselves. Honestly that is something I cant even begin to answer since I have only been using the GECK for 2 week now myself.

Wow, nice work. I wasn't expecting someone to go to work on this so quickly but obviously you're on top of things! =o At least I got mostly check marks! =p Anyway, thanks for getting on that so quickly. Think of it as "preparing for the storm" when the DLC hits, I'm assuming that's going to cause a lot of issues... but I wouldn't really know... so really this is becoming a pointless ramble. I do that a lot.

No worrys, think I have pretty much got most of it done, nice little tip for you, if you see anything with a cap value that is not divisible by 5 you can pretty much be assured that the data for that item has been taken by the contributer from the pipboy and not the GECK, so pretty much treat that whole row and invalid. Same goes for most rows that dont have full data (except V:W and DMG:AP). Example while I was doing these I noticed the lead pipe cap value at 31, check the GECK and the DMG, DPS where also both wrong.
As for the Dead Money, I am going to haft to take a back seat on that one =( ☣Avatar☣ 18:21, November 30, 2010 (UTC)
