0075C0F6 0075C594 Don't worry, I'm not here to cause trouble!
0075C0F9 0075C5B8 I didn't even know Knight-Errant was a rank until they told me about you. Is that above or below a Knight?
Crap, should I be saluting? I should be saluting, right?
0075C0FC 0075C586 Initiate Del Lawson, at your service. I'm with the Brotherhood at Fort Atlas.
I'm on assignment to set up a forward supply and maintenance operation. I was on the lookout for a good location and saw what you've built here.
0075C0FD 0075C5AB I should salute. Sir! I should salute, sir.
Sir!
0075C5AC I should salute. Ma'am! I should salute, ma'am.
Ma'am!
0075C0FE 0075C5C7 I'm here under orders from Paladin Rahmani.
0075C5C8 I'm here under orders from Knight Shin.
0075C0FF 0075C58A Sorry, sorry! I'm not here to cause any trouble. I'm on assignment.
0075C100 0075C587 Paladin Rahmani and Knight Shin, you mean. Come on, you're an Initiate! You could get in trouble being so casual. Anyway... very much in the mode of trying to get the class delinquent to behave even though the teacher's not around
I guess you're asking about the Paladin cutting off communication with the rest of the Brotherhood, back in California.
Is it weird if I'm not bothered by it? I know a lot of people are upset - Knight Shin sure is - but I only know the Brotherhood here.
Paladin Rahmani, she's... well, you've met her! It's like she always has a plan, and is always looking out for us.
She says the Brotherhood needs to be different, to protect people. I trust her.
0075C101 0075C597 Not that I know about, but it's not impossible I've got some more distant relatives out there somewhere.
I had a brother. He died before I was born, fighting in the war.
He'd of been... 44 now? Mom and Dad didn't talk about him much. Too painful.
0075C102 0075C5D9 I'm glad Paladin Rahmani's still leading us. Knight Shin... he's a good man, but everything's black and white for him.
Threats get eliminated. Potential threats get eliminated. I feel like he doesn't really see the point in helping people.
He'll be happier back in California. I hope he makes it.
0075C5DA Honestly, I'm really glad Paladin Rahmani is still in charge, but...
I wish there had been another way. Knight Shin might not've been my favorite, but there should've been a peaceful resolution.
Maybe that's naïve of me. I just hope it's the last time something like this happens.
0075C5DB This isn't how I wanted it to work out. Knight Shin's not a bad man, but I worry about the Brotherhood under his leadership.
I trusted Paladin Rahmani's vision for us. I want to help people! I don't think Knight Shin cares much about it.
Still... You can't deny he's effective. When you go into combat, you couldn't ask for someone better by your side.
0075C5DC The falling out was one thing. Forcing Paladin Rahmani out would've been another.
But killing her? That was... I'm really trying to understand. How could that have been necessary?
There's no going back, though. We've got to trust him. I hope maybe Scribe Valdez will temper his harsher instincts.
0075C104 0075C59C Pretty normal, I guess? I was born a couple of years after the bombs.
Mom and Dad were already living in a little settlement with other survivors by then.
Dad farmed; Mom was a mechanic. We had it better than a lot of folks in the Wasteland.
They loved each other, so much. They liked making little gifts for each other, and for me. Right up until the end.
I guess maybe they were a little smothering? They didn't plan on having a kid, but once I showed up they were thrilled.
Very protective. Especially Mom. They always worried about me, tried to keep me out of any kind of danger.
Heck, I wasn't even allowed to talk to the traders who passed through town sometimes.
0075C105 0075C59B
0075C107 0075C5F6
0075C10A 0075C596
0075C10B 0075C603 No problem!
0075C10C 0075C5A7 Permission to speak freely, sir?
0075C5A8 Permission to speak freely, ma'am?
0075C5A9 I think I've said everything I feel comfortable saying. Can we talk about something else?
0075C10E 0075C5C9 Okay, sure!
0075C10F 0075C5F7 It's all right, I don't mind. It's been a few years since.
It was just old age and health catching up, really. I guess it hits harder now than before the war.
They were pretty up there when they had me. Mom was old enough she thought kids were a closed door. Surprise!
I don't remember either of them without some gray in their hair. Not even when I was a kid. though this is a story about their deaths, remembering his parents is a positive memory
Mom went first. Caught a bad cold, never really got better. Dad and I were both with her at the bedside when she passed. This is the part that hurts; it's been some years but this memory sticks out
When she was gone, I think the spirit just went out of Dad. She was the love of his life. He went a year later, in his sleep. The sadness really takes hold here; he's not on the edge of breaking down, but this is still hard to remember.
Sorry. I'm all right. I still miss them. Pulling himself together here.
0075C110 0075C5DD Sure was! Mom was always happiest with a wrench in her hand and grease stains on her clothes.
Part of her keeping me out of trouble was putting me to work. Fixing generators, farm equipment, you know.
Most of our bonding time was over disassembled engines. I think she liked passing on the skill. Took pride in it.
0075C112 0075C591 Quiet, mostly. Wasn't very big, just a patch big enough to grow some food and trade with the other folks in town for what we didn't have.
I stuck to the mechanical stuff, with Mom. Dad actually forbade me to help with the crops.
He said, "Del, I love you, but whatever the opposite of a green thumb is, you've got it." this is an amusing, happy memory
0075C113 0075C59F Oh, sure. Came into West Virginia with a group of them. The ones that are left ended up at Foundation.
I've met a few folks there. Good people! Tad and Gloria, the couple who work the stockroom, were really nice.
0075C119 0075C5FE Not unless you count dodging bullets they sent my way!
The really crazy ones, Blood Eagles - they're the bunch that hit the settlers I moved here with.
I hear the Raiders up at Crater aren't as crazy, but I'm not looking to test that.
0075C11D 0075C599 Oh! The folks at the Refuge? I stopped in there for a bit before I signed up with the Brotherhood.
Everyone's really kind there. I guess you have to be, to do what they're doing.
I hear Initiate Ellison is stationed there now. I wonder how he's doing?
0075C11F 0075C5D0 Virginia, originally. Not too far from here, but far enough it wasn't easy getting here.
Never saw too much of it, actually. The settlement I grew up in was pretty sheltered.
I never really went anywhere until after my parents died.
0075C120 0075C590 Sure thing! Anything in particular?
0075C121 0075C58D Well, after my parents passed, I didn't have a lot of reason to stick around anymore.
I'd been in one town my whole life, so I wanted to see what else was out there.
Joined up with some settlers moving into West Virginia. Seemed like as good a way to do it as any. Figured I'd help fix stuff, just like back home.
Well, we got here, lost people to Scorched, some to raiders, and we needed farmers more than mechanics.
I was as bad at that as Dad always said. Almost starved that first winter! Then the Brotherhood showed up, recruiting. this was a bad time for Del, but it's kind of funny now, and the memory of his father is a good one
They needed people with technical skills, and I was just happy not to have to grow my own dinner!
0075C122 0075C5AA You got it!
0075C124 0075C5A1 Please, man. Do NOT call me Elmer. Del's good.
0075C5A2 I'd really appreciate it if you stuck with Del, sir.
0075C5A3 I'd really appreciate it if you stuck with Del, ma'am.
0075C125 0075C5C5 Unfortunately, yeah. the thing he didn't want to be asked about
My first name's Elmer. Named after my Mom's grandfather, apparently. Not happy about this
Only fight my parents ever had, according to Dad. Mom won, of course. this story is still a fond memory of his parents, despite disliking his name; it amuses him
Dad called me Del, and it stuck. Thank God. lighter tone - the story has a happy ending after all
0075C12C 0075C5DE This might sound crazy, but... Aliens! Actual, real-life spacemen!
It was crazy. A flying saucer and everything, right over Charleston! I couldn't believe it!
There were these big machines pulsing with energy, and big-headed skinny green guys just popping in out of thin air everywhere!
I was under orders to guard our camp, so, uh... I didn't actually get that close. I saw everything, though!
0075C5DF Ever hear of the Grafton Monster? When I first joined the Brotherhood, some of the other Initiates told me stories.
Never believed them. A giant, headless monster that shoots acid from its back? Crazy. Figured it was just them hazing the new guy.
Until I saw it myself on patrol. You know Hemlock Holes, the old golf course past the dam?
We were south of there when this thing comes over a little rise. Had to be almost eight feet tall! No head!
I don't know how a headless giant can see you, but it saw us, that's for sure. The squad booked it out of there, double-time, believe me.
You know, to report back about it. You gotta report that kind of thing. Right?
0075C5E0 Haven't seen it myself, but Initiate Hewsen swears there's a giant snapping turtle that walks on two legs, down around the Cranberry Bog.
I actually trust her on it. There's enough weird stuff in Appalachia that a giant turtle-man doesn't even rate anymore.
What is it about West Virginia? Every time I think I have the hang of things there's something else crazy happening here!
It is pretty exciting, though. contrasting the previous statement
0075C5E1 If you haven't already run into them, you probably want to steer clear of the Cult of the Mothman.
Raiders are one thing, but the cultists are always raving about the Mothman while they try to kill you. And they really like bones, for some reason.
A lot. I don't get it. Moths don't even have bones. Does the Mothman have bones? Does it eat bones?
0075C5E2 Okay, so, maybe this isn't that weird, but... there's this old monorail pylon, north of Watoga? Still got a train up top.
Somebody built stairs to get up there and everything. Ran across it once and had to check it out, since it seemed abandoned.
Somebody was doing some weird science experiment up there, I think. They'd built a big ring onto the next pylon, like for the train to pass through.
Didn't get a chance to really check it out though. Spotted some Super Mutants in the area and had to make myself scarce, fast.
Still wonder what that was about, though.
0075C12F 0075C5A0 Thank you! Even just saying "Elmer" feels weird.
0075C130 0075C5FF Aw, c'mon, man. That's not funny.
0075C600 Aw, c'mon, sir. That's not funny.
0075C601 Aw, c'mon, ma'am. That's not funny.
0075C131 0075C584 Right! Yes! Protocol! Why would you ever need to call me by my first name? Forget I mentioned it. kind of embarrassed - he's asked a commanding officer something beneath their notice
0075C135 0075C588 I might've already mentioned I was not cut out for farming. Can't keep a crop alive to, well, save my life.
Never going to be a Raider, and I don't like living alone. Could have stayed at Foundation, maybe, but when the Brotherhood came recruiting...
I don't know. I guess I've felt a little lost since my parents died. Joining the Brotherhood, things were simpler. Direction. Orders.
The uniform's pretty good, too, right?
0075C136 0075C5AD Well, right now it's to organize this supply and maintenance outpost, like we discussed. Thanks again for permitting it, by the way!
You mean more generally though, right? Well, I do whatever the officers say, of course. Being an Initiate and all.
We're all training to become Knights one day. There were only three Brotherhood who came here from California, so they need to fill out the ranks.
It's funny, though - most of the time they've got me working for Scribe Valdez. I suppose she needs a lot of help, being the only Scribe.
I'm sure they'll put me through the more intensive combat training soon enough, though. Can't be a Knight without that!
0075C138 0075C5B9 You don't know? Oh, man, I thought everybody knew about them by now. Us, I mean.
The Brotherhood is...kind of a military? We protect and secure technology to prevent its misuse. That's how it was explained to me, anyway.
I'm not really the person to ask about history, though. If you want to know more, you can always head to Fort Atlas.
0075C139 0075C5A4 It's a perfect location, and it looked like you had everything I could need to get up and running, so I was hoping we could help each other out.
0075C5A5 You've got a great location and setup, perfect for the assignment. I was hoping we could join forces. Fellow Brotherhood, and all.
0075C5A6 You've got everything I need to get things up and running already. Would you be willing to allow me to run the operation from here?
0075C13C 0075C5D6 Hrm. My orders were to aid Brotherhood soldiers in the field; they didn't say anything about civilians.
But... if you're letting me stay and operate out of your property, I'm sure Command will understand. Probably.
0075C13D 0075C595 Among other things, yeah. I've been working with Scribe Valdez a lot, doing maintenance in the armory, that kind of thing.
If it's broke, I can fix it, and if I can't fix it, I've probably got something squirreled away that'll help anyway.
I've also managed to put together a decent supply of weapons, ammo, armor... even some schematics if you're into doing it yourself.
That's kind of why I'm here - you've got the storage space already!
I can also help out with any power armor you've got. Scribe Valdez says I've got a real knack with it.
0075C13F 0075C5B2 Everything a Brotherhood soldier might need on patrol in the Wasteland! Let me show you.
0075C5B3 All the materiel I could scrape together. I'm sure there's something you could use.
0075C5B4 Weapons, ammo, and more. Take a look!
0075C5B5 I've got options defensive, offensive, and recuperative. Just like I was ordered!
0075C5B6 Anything I could find that fit the mission brief. I can guarantee everything's been fully refurbished.
0075C5B7 First aid, armor, guns, even some schematics. Have a look!
0075C141 0075C5F5 Basically, they want me to stockpile stuff and do any maintenance required for Brotherhood soldiers that might pass through.
0075C143 0075C58C Until the falling out, anyway. Probably best not to talk about that right now.
0075C145 0075C59A Yep! My orders were to locate a suitable site and prepare a cache of goods and materiel to aid any Brotherhood field operations in the area.
0075C149 0075C5CC I'm sorry, but you've got to give me time to restock for more repairs.
Come check with me again later and I'll see what I can do.
0075C5CD You got it!
0075C5CE Right away, sir!
0075C5CF Right away, ma'am!
0075C14C 0075C5C4 If you say so. I'll be here if you change your mind.
0075C14D 0075C5BA
0075C150 0075C5BC Anyway, if you want, I can give the whole suit a full tune up.
Top to bottom treatment. Check all the linkages, refurbish the servos, clean out the lines...
Knock out those dents that compromise armor efficacy. Total overhaul.
I can get you not just up and running again, but even a bit better than before.
For a while, anyway. Wear and tear is killer on power armor.
Just give me a tick...
0075C151 0075C59D Sir! Thank you, sir!
0075C59E Ma'am! Thank you, ma'am!
0075C152 0075C5C3 Great! Thank you! Really glad I ran into you out here. This is going to make things a lot easier.
If you need a hand with anything, let me know!
0075C153 0075C5E3 I just never expected to be working on this directly under a Knight! Knight-Errant! Sorry!
0075C154 0075C58E All right, then! Let me know if you change your mind.
0075C155 0075C593 Absolutely! What do you need?
0075C156 0075C598 I'll get to work right away. You won't regret it!
0075C157 0075C5C1 What did you want to know, sir?
0075C5C2 What did you want to know, ma'am?
0075C158 0075C5C6 Some. Not as much as I'd like! I hear a lot of stories, and I've met some folks out on patrol with the Brotherhood.
Anything in particular you wanted to know?
0075C15A 0075C5D1 Me? Really? Well... Okay, what did you want to know?
0075C5D2 Really? Wow. The officers don't usually take the time for casual chats.
I mean, uh, they're so busy! I'm sure they would if they had the time.
I just mean I appreciate you asking.
0075C15B 0075C602 Nothing! Well, use of your facilities here, actually. Permission to stay and run the operation from your camp.
I won't get in the way, I promise!
0075C15E 0075C5F8 Super Mutants! Stumbled across some when Knight Shin took me on patrol.
Feral ghouls are one thing, but Super Mutants talk! Hard to treat them as just monsters when you hear them talking.
The whole "slaughtering and eating people" thing, though, makes it pretty easy to look past that, I guess.
Knight Shin didn't even bat an eye. "Just keep me loaded," he said. Cool as a cucumber! He ran through four belts of ammo before it was over.
0075C5F9 A few of us were on a training patrol and we ran into a nest of feral ghouls!
Terrifying! They just run at you, tripping over themselves trying to grab you.
I only had a sidearm because I was humping a lot of our additional gear, and the others only had light rifles. We had to make a break for it.
I think I set a record for running the 100 meter sprint while hauling sixty pounds of equipment!
0075C5FA Mirelurk got its claws on my ankle once.
I was on a training exercise, busy setting up some monitoring equipment by the river. Very cool stuff!
Damn thing slipped up out of the water while I was focused on that, and SNAP! Before I even realized it was there.
Good thing the other two Initiates came back right then.
Took it out and got my leg bandaged up before that crab jerk left me lopsided
0075C5FB Now, the Scorched... they scare me. Seriously!
The crystals growing out of them? The creepy things they say! Scribe Valdez says they're a hive mind, which seems crazy.
I've managed to steer clear and avoid direct fights with them. Hope it stays that way.
0075C5FC A Yao Guai got the drop on Paladin Rahmani and some of us recruits one time.
She was leading a training exercise. Real basic stuff, you know, baby's first patrol. You really felt lucky to be learning directly from her.
Anyway, just a bunch of fresh recruits learning how to march without tripping over our own feet, and this huge thing comes barreling out of the trees.
The Paladin split its skull with her glaive faster than any of us could process the panic! Just amazing!
0075C15F 0075C585 Whatever you need!
0075C163 0075C5AE Anything weird? Well...
0075C5AF Weird, sir? Well, now that you mention it...
0075C5B0 Weird, ma'am? Well, now that you mention it...
0075C5B1 Let's see...
0075C164 0075C5BB Hrm... considering
0075C165 0075C58B Not too much, besides the raiders when I first moved here. But there's been a few scrapes since then, on patrol with the Brotherhood.
0075C16C 0075C195 Why do they keep assigning me maintenance duty? How am I going to make Knight without more combat rotations?
0075C196 God, I hate Bloodbugs.
0075C197 Nothing like the shine of freshly-polished armor.
0075C198 Why'd I haul this stuff all the way out here? I haven't seen any other Brotherhood out this way. Oh, well. Orders are orders.
0075C199 Crap. Did I spill something, or was that stain there already?
0075C19A This is a pretty cushy posting, all things considered.
0075C19B Wish the weather would clear up.
0075C19C Another day, another chance to practice proper equipment maintenance.
0075C19D I wonder if any of the other Initiates have made Knight while I've been gone?
0075C19E When in doubt, use more tape.
0075C19F Scribe Valdez says most problems are either something moves when it's not supposed to, or doesn't move when it is supposed to.
0075C16D 0075C1BB This is a nice place! Never was much of a builder, myself.
0075C1BC Hey, hey!
0075C1BD Hope I'm not in the way. Am I in the way?
0075C1BE Watch your step; I'm might've spilled some grease around here. Sorry about that!
0075C1BF How's it going?
0075C1C0 Everything all right?
0075C1C1 Whoa, are you okay? That looks like it hurts! sees player is injured
0075C1C2 Oh, crap, what happened? I've got some first aid supplies if you need them. sees player is injured
0075C1C3 You're looking pretty rough... You're going to want to get some RadAway in you, fast. player is suffering from radiation sickness
0075C1C4 Did I forget a holiday? That's quite an outfit. player is in a costume
0075C1C5 Sir!
0075C1C6 Ma'am!
0075C1C7 Now, that's what I'm talking about! You need a tune-up on that armor, let me know!
0075C16E 0075C5E8 Hello!
0075C5E9 Hey there!
0075C5EA What can I do for you?
0075C5EB Anything I can help you with?
0075C5EC Oh, hey! I've got some time, what's up?
0075C5ED Something you need, sir?
0075C5EE Something you need, ma'am?
0075C5EF Hey! Did you need something?
0075C5F0 What's happening?
0075C5F1 Always have time, if you wanted to chat.
0075C5F2 Oh! Hello! You must be the owner of the place. Sorry about just showing up unannounced.
0075C5F3 Oh! Initiate! I didn't realize this place was yours. Apologies for the intrusion!
0075C5F4 Knight-Errant! I didn't expect... I'm sorry! They didn't tell me you'd be out here.
0075C170 0075C171 Fantastic! Thank you!
I'll try to stay out of your way, don't worry. If you need anything, just ask!
0075C172 No! Well, you don't know me, but I've heard about you. Nothing but good things, don't worry!
0075C173 Of course! As a member of the Brotherhood, you're exactly who I'm supposed to be helping out here!
0075C174 Right! Yes! Of course!
I might've mentioned, I've spent a decent amount of time working with Scribe Valdez, helping maintain the power armor for the officers.
0075C175 Yeah, absolutely! What about them?
