The Communist commander outfit and Communist commander hat are an outfit set added in the Fallout 76 update Steel Dawn. It can be considered a high definition remake of the classic Chinese jumpsuit.
Background[]
The communist commander's uniform is a single-piece khaki jumpsuit, with a pair of slanted pockets on the torso, two vertical ones on each hip, and two horizontal pockets above the knees. All use zippers instead of buttons for ease of access. It is worn with a leather belt featuring twenty individual bullet holders and a Sam Browne strap for supporting a sword scabbard, a pair of heavy duty leather boots, and a fur hat with flaps that can be pulled down to provide phenomenal protection from cold.
Though issued to Chinese troops, shoulder tabs, shoulder sleeve insignia, the national flag, and collar rank patches are solid red, representing communism in general. The shoulderboards are gray on red, while the hat bears only a single, solid red star.

This is a cosmetic item, worn apart from any equipped armor.

Each item can only be obtained by opening a second-generation (i.e. Steel Dawn) holiday gift. The drop chances are based on the gift rarity tiers and are as follows:
- Looted small gift: 0.33%
- Looted medium gift: 1.33%
- Looted large gift: 2.67%
- Crafted small gift: 0.66%
- Crafted medium gift: 2.67%
- Crafted large gift: 4.00%
The outfit is also assigned to Communist commissars in Daily Ops.

Behind the scenes[]
Whereas the original jumpsuit was closely based on the Mao suit, this outfit is a much looser interpretation that's similar to Soviet overalls, rather than any distinctly Chinese uniform.
