CALLER LOCATION: BOARDWALK

REASON: STRAY BULLET

SUMMARY: Some woman from near the Showmen's haunt called us up in a glizzy over a stray bullet flyin' into her abode and striking her husband in the knee. Had to send a medic over, but what a show that must've been, huh?

DISPATCHER: FRIEDMAN, HARRY

CALLER LOCATION: CITY CENTER

REASON: MUGGING

SUMMARY: Muni on his way to work at City Hall called in saying some thugs jumped him. Victim tried to deter them by yelling "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, I'M WALKING 'ERE!" to the muggers, which didn't really help at all. I called up the Family and the Showmen to see if they could send some people over to police the streets, but they said it was "too early to be fighting crime." Ah, well. Buttercup'll be jumping like a bean to rough 'em up.

DISPATCHER: FRIEDMAN, HARRY

CALLER LOCATION: CASINO QUARTER

REASON: WRONG NUMBER?

SUMMARY: Got a call from some Wise Guy over in the Casino Quarter. When I asked him what his emergency was, he said he didn't mean to call and that it was a "wrong number." Yeah. Likely story. It's 5:20 a.m.! Who prank calls at this hour?!

ADDENDUM: Thanks for subbing in, Harry. You have no idea how much I needed that coffee! But can you PLEASE leave the little personal comments to a minimum? This is a call log, not a diary.

CALLER LOCATION: CASINO QUARTER

REASON: OVERGROWN INCIDENT

SUMMARY: Got a caller in the Casino Quarter saying the Overgrown are pouring out of the old train cars. They managed to attack a few civilians who miraculously survived. Sounds like there might be a nest in there. Dispatching Sloane and a few of her rangers to investigate and, hopefully, eradicate them. Also dispatched two medics to assess civilian injuries.

Anna,

I know you've been feeling really burnt out lately. I've been feeling the same way. I find myself working 'round the clock to keep this city running, and for what? It's a cesspool of greed and violence. Is this really the best life possible in this new world? Sure doesn't feel like it.

I should be close to retirement, but I think I'm closer to death. You're young, girlie. You shouldn't be wasting away your youth at this dead-end job. I say this lovingly, as your superior.

XO,

Frieda

FROM: Lane, Timothy
TO: ALL
SUBJECT: Hang in there!

Folks,

I'm not going to mince words with you and pretend that what you see isn't what you're getting. We're overburdened and overworked. We were barely getting by with significant staffing issues as is, but the threat of the Overgrown has proven to be more than we can bear. We simply can't take on the burden of this city alone.

I intend on reaching out to our friends and allies in the Casino Quarter and the Boardwalk to see if they can lend a hand in taming Mother Nature. Maybe we've been cursed. Maybe man wasn't meant to survive nuclear Armageddon, and we're just delaying the inevitable. Even if that's true, I intend on fighting to the last breath to delay that inevitable extinction.

To that, I make a simple request of you. Simple, yet difficult. Hang in there with me.

Sincerely,

Tim

Anna

You've been looking really stressed out lately, but you should probably lighten up since you're still alive and all. I had to wipe out a few Overgrown near the old Community Center yesterday, and I brought back one of their severed heads for you. Left it on your desk. Hopefully it will remind you that you are a warrior, and will get through this. Unlike that Overgrown.

Property of Don Ropiequet

Body

2/14/2078[]

Transcript

This is Don Ropiequet, former land and soil surveyor of BUSINESS NAME.
I have since been moved to "The Science Team" as Mayor Day calls us, and I'm now in charge of setting up a water monitoring and purification system. I was never much fond of her or her political decisions, but clean water after what just happened is the first good decision that has come from her.

We've been moving as much equipment from what's left of BUSINESS NAME as we can tear up, as well as any other tech from nearby buildings. It hasn't been easy rafting many of these consoles through the floodwater, and in fact, we've lost a few loads already.

Luckily we had plenty of tradesmen survive the initial flooding, and are able to start welding together some pipework to siphon water in and out of the purification tank we're setting up in the rotunda. We should have the whole system up and running in about a month.

3/6/2078[]

Transcript

The water purification system is up and running sooner than originally projected. We had a few major leaks, but it all seems to be under control now. The tank has been running for a few hours, and after a day or two, we should have some actual numbers to go by.

5/12/2078[]

Transcript

It's been two months since the purification process has been in operation. We were initially pumping the clean water into metal and plastic drums, but as of recent, work has begun on constructing piping to run throughout town. This should cut down drastically on the issues with transportation.

The only trouble is, we are quickly running out of scavenged pipes, and scrap to make more. The settlement over in the modern side of town have been scrapping some of the more ruined buildings and hauling the metals over here. Hopefully we can construct enough piping to pump clean water over to them.

8/24/2078[]

Transcript

I've been hearing local banter about people getting sick and the contaminated dead sprouting fungus. Rumor has it that it's something in the filtered water, but there's also been talk of other more decayed corpses with the same symptoms. As if we didn't have enough on our plate already, now it seems we have some kind of epidemic on our hands. No one seems to have any solid clue on where this could be coming from. And unfortunately too, the few doctors we have aren't skilled botanists, so they are having a difficult time determining what it could even be.

Mention holding tanks in the entertainment district

2/19/2085[]

Transcript

Food supplies have been running low over the last year, and Mayor Day hasn't done a thing to fix it. Some of the newly formed groups over in the Entertainment District have been out raiding farms just so they can keep the tourists in their hotels happy.

Well, I overheard that they picked on the wrong farmer the other week. Apparently this Tim Lane managed to fend off his farm, and then came into City Hall to confront Day about the fiasco. It's pretty common knowledge that Day has been running everything into the ground, but Mr. Lane told her to step it up, or get the Hell out. I was talking with his wife Frieda, and it sounds like the both of them could really do some good for Atlantic City.
