Part Seven was a joke when it came to its length. That being said, hopefully I can make up for you all. I will be quite busy tomorrow and I am not sure if I will have time to write, so I'm doing it a day early. My regards to the family and friends of our passed administrator.
Edit to moderator: Thanks for switching the genre, I forgot about that.
JANUARY 15, 2288
I woke up, thinking it must be New Years Day or something, and told the others a Happy New Years, but they were confused. Turns out it was the 15th. The last time I was writing, it turned out to be the 2nd of January. Not sure how or when I entered a coma, but it's been two weeks.
Preston was talking to me a bit in private. He was proud of my help to rebuild the Minutemen. But he says I need a real break. Maybe I should stop with all the fighting and consider doing something else. He's right, but what can we do? We are in one of the year's most gruesome times yet and there's no point in me slacking off.
Anyway, I've enjoyed relaxing on the couch with Dogmeat(I keep forgetting to mention him in my diary, great kiddo) while listening to the radio. The record-breaking blizzards finally passed and the temperatures improved. Diamond City Radio is as clear as the sky.
Some news came out from the west. The region called Cranberry Valley which consists of everything between Springfield and Worcester was spared much better thanks to the mountains. It was named Cranberry Valley for the countless cranberry fields that dotted the muddy landscapes, a timeless prized fruit of New England and Massachusetts.
I'm getting off track with the news part... looks like the Gunner encampments on the overpass were abandoned and it allowed for caravans to start coming back on the MA-2. Food prices are lowering. The group thinks we should start inviting more families to Sanctuary now that food isn't that big of an issue. Maybe we should.
I also asked Preston why I heard arguing with Sturges a while ago. Turns out back when I was missing for a few days after Christmas, Sturges got concerned that the raiders would discover information on my body and use it to get back to Sanctuary, so he rigged a makeshift explosive to the bridge as a last resort. Even after we cleared it out with just guns, something must have malfunctioned. Looking at the creek, it was like the bridge never existed.
Unfortunately it isn't an ideal time to rebuild the entire bridge, so we just have a few makeshift crossings supported by rocks, wood, and other objects.
I also noticed that Abernathy and Oberland are gone, unlike the time two weeks ago when they were here for the care of their wounded ones.
It feels quiet... too quiet. Aside from two other farms, we are the only people in the Concord-Lexington region.
JANUARY 16, 2288
Good morning, Boston. Travis caught another flu again, but the rest of Diamond City also has it, so it's not much of a big suprise. I am however, in a good shape to broadcast in his spot, so here I am.
It is 9:30 AM, New England Time.
The Cambridge Police Station has gone quiet after a siege which lasted over a month. The distress signal is still operating. Diamond City is contributing resources, combined with Bunker Hill, to secure bridges and ensure ferals cannot access them. The raider gang previously controlling the U.S.S Riptide was destroyed for the means of authority on the Charles River. Goodneighbor has not yet made contact with Diamond City.
Contact with the rest of Massachusetts is back after the MA-2 was freed up, allowing caravans from Cranberry Valley and Nuka-City(aka New-ka-Springfield) to visit the Commonwealth. The raised overpass makes it favorable to avoid the ferals in Lexington and Cambridge. Sales continue to rise in Bunker Hill, which has helped to fund the blockade.
And now, a shoutout to a scavenger that managed to recover some old records. I am sure you will all like a change to the songs that we play on here.
Fired up the recruitment radio beacon today. The group has worked on restoring some of the homes. There are about fourteen properties, five of which are stripped down to the foundation because of ruined houses, and four currently in use for either residential or storage purposes. That leaves us with five homes. We have worked on some repairs, mainly with the roof, foundation, and redoing all the walling and flooring. A lot of us have gained strength and the adequate meals have helped.
JANUARY 17, 2288
Two new families arrived, the population is up to 15. We are still working out the final renovations and asked if the new guys can help us.
Snow is melting a bit, especially with the bags of salt we have stored, but the frost is still thick outside.
JANUARY 18, 2288
Oberland almost got raided, thankfully I'm glad I told them to hide the packaged foods when not using it.
It has been pretty chill and it looks like things are getting better, and now we can finally move out of the storm. Unfortunately, with how quiet the Northwest is and more farms out east, some are saying the Minutemen is returning. If we want to restore trust in a matter of time to save our legacy, Preston suggests we retake "The Castle", the old Minutemen HQ.
Turns out the old tourist attraction "Fort Independence" got a new name a while ago and served as the former Minutemen HQ, but almost fifty years ago a mirelurk queen tore it up pretty bad. If we want to reorganize operations in the Commonwealth, well, it was the spot to do it.
We pretty much control the NH&M railway from Carlisle to Ashton and we could easily use the local area to get to South Boston and back.
We made sure to stockpile and purchase quite a lot of shotgun shells and a crap ton of explosives(especially mines) and I told Preston I would meet him at the Castle with the other Minutemen recruits.
JANUARY 19, 2288
The railway track was pretty friendly until we got past Oberland but still it was actually relatively peaceful. Just some wild animals. Taking the trainyards at Boston was easier than I thought, but it leads to Mass Pike Underground, which has a lot of feral ghouls, so I decided to blockade the rationing site entrance.
I took a rest for the night since the walk alone must have been seven hours, I'm not too sure.
JANUARY 20, 2288
I used an isolated relay tower to avoid walking straight into Greenskin territory. It's harder then it seems but at least I'm not chased by hulks, one probably strapped with a bomb on his hand.
Jamaica Plain is also feral-infested but not as bad as some of the other towns i've seen.
University Point is home to a fight between synths and a deathclaw, so far? Victory for the deathclaw. Thank god it's distracted so I can walk along the coastline. Managed to avoid any fights with the high school gangsters.
Met up with Preston and the gang. The rest took different routes and are fine for the most part. God, it sends chills down my spine seeing the old candy shop again. Haven't been there since I was eight after we left the tour of the fort.
We ultimately decided to just make a direct offensive, start with the courtyard, and clear out the castle walls and catwalks. The shotguns do a damn fine job at clearing out the nests, and enough firepower from each shot(or two) can fear a mirelurk's face apart and drive it insane.
Courtyard was cleared in a few minutes, but by then we alerted the rest of the mirelurks around the Castle. We were doing really well and clearing out the last nests when we heard a deep roar from Pleasure Bay.
The mirelurk queen was back and was approaching its way across the destroyed sections of the castle walls. One person died from her attacks and I got a nasty acid burn.
Took way too many explosives until the bastard finally trembled to the floor on her last legs. I got medical support while the rest of the nests were cleared out.
JANUARY 21, 2288
The acid burn did one on me but it's healing pretty well. The dead Minuteman is being transported back to Sanctuary via handcar.
We're cleaning up the Castle right now. Just scrubbing the walls, ripping off the seaweed, shovelling the sediment and **** away, and trying to make use of all the mirelurk meat. We repaired one of the generators so we can keep the fridges stocked. Even with a chainsaw though, the shell of a mirelurk queen is a pain like hell to cut through.
JANUARY 28, 2288
A week has passed since we retook the Castle. Cleanup with the mirelurks and sea **** has finished up, and now we turn attention to restoring and glorifying the castle. Since we want it to last, I've decided to give it a new name: The Pentagon.
Even if what Sturges said about DC is true, the Pentagon is probably a silent crater as I write this. Don't see no reason why not place it at Boston, the fort is shaped like it anyway.
Hired some unlucky people in the South Boston area to clean up and sort through the rubble, and the promise of clean water and good food got them running quickly. Not exactly ethnic, but hey, at least I'm even bothering such good rations.
Of course, this was a few days ago, and they've done a damn fine job at cleaning up the place, so I might have to up the calorie intake and stockpile more filters.
I decided to create a little minefield up around Jamaica Plain, went to one of the end roads, and made as much noise as possible. Wiped out most of the feral ghouls in the area. This town is ours, now.
Now that Jamaica Plain is safe to walk through(hopefully), I began to work on restoring some radio links to establish Pentagon Castle to Sanctuary.
FEBRUARY 1, 2288
The cleanup workers at Pentagon Castle have done an incredible job on the ground level. We are moving towards the basement now, but we still can't access the armory. Speaking of which, an old Minutemen veteran talked to me about the locked armory and helped me to get to the access. Had to take out one of our best robots, but we need the supplies in the armory. Found one of our old generals dead, so we brought him upstairs and prepared for a burial.
The button mechanic to open the doors works just fine and the armory is now accessible. We used this advantage and gathered all the ammunition, weapons, and even saved our precious artillery blueprint. We cleaned up the trash piles for each corner tower of the castle, so we should consider rebuilding the models soon.
I need to stop writing, I need to help with something.
