William Patrick Spencer Gold, better known online as Wilbur Soot, was a popular YouTuber, Twitch streamer, and musician who is a former friend of the Dream Team and member of the Dream SMP.
Throughout his music career, Wilbur has released two albums on his own (Your City Gave Me Asthma) (Mammalian Sighing Reflex), an EP (Maybe I Was Boring), and several singles, that of which are I'm in Love With an E-Girl, Internet Ruined Me, and Your New Boyfriend. Furthermore, he is the lead singer of the band Lovejoy.
Wilbur cameoed on the Dream SMP on July 12, 2020, and properly joined four days later, on July 16. He transitioned the server into scripted improvisation, which started a storyline that contributed greatly to the SMP's fame, and he was the head writer of the L'Manberg Independence and Manberg Rebellion arcs. He stepped down after his character's death at the end of the Manberg vs Pogtopia War to work on personal projects,[5] but still made minor contributions to the storyline at the time.
Alongside expressing his interest in returning to his position as head writer in the future, Dream had stated that he would return to writing lore for Pandora's Vault, the prison of the SMP, in the future, and Wilbur had since confirmed that he had written more lore for his own character, thanks to his resurrection.
On July 13, 2020, he and George met up in Brighton at a Pizza Hut as a part of The Vlog hoax.

Abuse Allegations
Shubble revealed on February 21, 2024 in a stream titled 'Talking About Something More Serious' that she had been in an abusive relationship from 2022-early 2023.[6] This included physical abuse via frequent biting which would leave bruises, emotional abuse, and financial abuse. While Shubble initially did not name her abuser, fans noticed that the description she gave of her abuser bore many similarities to Wilbur Soot.[7]
During LexieMariex's stream on February 26, 2024, Shubble mentions that she will never forgive this person nor will have forgiveness.[8]
On February 27, 2024, Wilbur addressed the allegations on Twitter, confirming that the ex-boyfriend Shubble had mentioned was him. His tweet contained an 'apology' which was poorly received, with many other creators who had once been close to Wilbur criticizing how he did not take accountability, and how a large section of the 'apology' was quite focused on himself, and how he tried to downplay his abusive behaviors rather than apologizing to Shelby, let alone even mentioning her by name.[9] Several other content creators also replied to the Tweet, further criticizing him.
On March 1, 2024, Shubble mentions her disappointment to the response by Wilbur. She believes it not genuine.[10] She believes a genuine apology would have addressed her by name, instead of being referred to as an "ex-girlfriend". She also talks about the boys who were 18 at the time, which were Ranboo, Tubbo, and Tommy. She claims that Wilbur manipulated them and their friends. She also said that Wilbur and Tommyās friendship was āweirdā and ācreepyā.[11] Some of their friends, Billzo and Badlinu mention on Twitter that they have seen Wilbur manipulate their friends.[12][13]
On June 8, 2024, Shubble reexplained a lot of what she had previously said to clarify certain things about the situation. She clarified that the problem wasn't exactly the biting itself, but rather that she didn't consent to being hurt by said behaviors. In her opinion, Wilbur's apology was manipulative and shows his true self, and now he just hopes he can get away with it and continuing his behaviors. She also claimed that Wilbur hasn't been in therapy consistently. She restated that she will never forgive him.[14][15]
The first time Wilbur met Nihachu, he threw her to (in his own words) "assert dominance" over her.[16] Niki has mentioned that she had been bitten by Wilbur numerous times as well and received bruises from it.[17] On February 27, 2024, Niki talked about Wilbur without saying his name. She was 18 when she first met Wilbur. She mentions how harmful he was and how damaged she was from him. [18]
Sexual Assault Allegations
On March 8, 2024, cosplayer YouTuber AliceNyanNya made a tweet on Twitter explaining that she had allegedly also been in an abusive relationship with Wilbur, and that Shubble talking about her own experiences had given her courage to talk about hers as well. She claimed that she had been in a relationship with him during 2019, although when this relationship ended is unclear. During this time, Alice recalls that he was quite negligent towards her. The relationship eventually dissolved due to lack of communication, but the two met up again in 2021 for 'closure', as stated by Alice. All of this is yet to be confirmed by Wilbur.
Violent Behaviors
Back when Wilbur met Technoblade, he allegedly threw an apple at Technoblade's arm, that had just undergone surgery for cancer. Though Wilbur claimed it was an accident and that he felt remorseful for it, he also said that Technoblade deserved it.[19]
There was also an instance of which he stomped on Tommy's hand, which caught his nail when they were at Disneyland in Paris, France.[20]
Aftermath
After his apology was posted, Wilbur's social medias went quiet, despite a few more people having spoken up about their stories as well, including small streamer Dunnn, who has been allegedly bitten by him multiple times. He has not responded to these allegations.
His band posted a tweet on their account explaining that they would be taking a break due to concerns surrounding Wilbur's mental health.
On June 8, 2024, Wilbur posted on his Instagram story. He stated that he was back from his break. Regarding the controversy, he explained that he had said all that he wanted to about the allegations made against him relating to Shubble for now, and went on to say that his band, Lovejoy, would be releasing a new single, I'll Look Good When I'm Sober, in a few months. Wilbur said that they would continue touring during the summer of 2024 in Australia, and that they were all very excited to continue their music career.

Trivia
- He has an ongoing bit where he comes up with a random date whenever someone asks when his birthday is.[33] He has said that this is because he hates his birthday and doesn't celebrate it.[34] Part of the joke is that he lied to Famous Birthdays and gave them a fake date,[35] but he has also stated that this could be a double bluff, meaning his actual birthday and the one displayed on Famous Birthdays might actually be the same.[36]
- Wilbur has a condition that weakens his sense of taste to the point where he can only taste food faintly.[37][38]
- Wilbur's original online username was "settings66." He came up with the name after seeing "settings" on a page while applying for an account for a Tamagotchi forum. After an American friend constantly annoyed Wilbur by pronouncing it "sonnings," Wilbur started calling himself "sottings." Wilbur eventually changed it to "Sootings" which led to the "SootHouse" and later "Wilbur Soot."[39]
- Wilbur made his first YouTube channel when he was eleven under the username settings66. Wilbur constantly made the channel seem more popular by encouraging others to create other accounts under the same username.[40]
- Wilbur was the co-founder and lead editor of the channel SootHouse.[41]
- Wilbur edited briefly for JackSucksAtLife in between the middle of December 2018 and late February 2019. During this time, Wilbur created an ARG (alternate reality game).[42]
- Many quotes from this ARG made reappearances during Wilbur's spiral into villainy on the Dream SMP, although these are likely just minor references.
- He has said he would like to make another ARG in the future.
