this mod is a good idea but you should add stuff like in finite liquid because currently to build deep underwater it is very hard. because you have to bulid the base and then remove the water from inside.
Seems very interesting. I think that underwater mobs of various strengths could be neat. Like a sea slime, kraken, shark, fish, and/or whale. All in all, I support
Edit: Also, some sort of assemble portal that would lead to an "ocean nether," kind of like the elemental plane of water from DnD. That is were the kraken/cthulu monster boss thing could be located.
You could add a series of tamable/breedable creatures, like breeding certain sharks may have a chance of having a prehistoric sea monster or something, and breeding certain sea monsters may result in a rare mythological sea monster like the leviathan.
And maybe a similar system can be used for the kraken.
Note:This may be a stupid idea [My idea, not the oceancraft idea it sounds awesome]
(I don't see any biological reason a shark would be related to a prehistoric sea reptile, is the biggest reason I Don't like my idea)
I had an idea like this yesterday but didn't feel like posting it. Glad to know I'm not the only one thinking that the "Oceans" in MC are pathetic.
I just finished an underwater project and most of the ideas suggested here would have helped. It gets way too dark too soon underwater.
Maybe we could have a new type of armor, one specifically for going under water.
How about a helmet made of glass, for extra air?

Underwater torches... I dont know of a crafting recipe but I know if you build a structure like this:
[] []
it will stay underwater. but it gives such little light...
I really hope Notch makes the oceans a lot larger... I want them to be like the way the land is but upside down and in the water, with random mountains and really deep holes that go to cave structures. Not just sand or dirt at the bottom, but rock and life (seaweed and sponges sound good).
Ooo!! Armor... yes, more armor! And for light and air too... Ooh yes!
I would go with like, glow stone armor or torch armor to light it. Don't ask me about air though
This is a wonderful thread. It really made me sad that this was posted in 2010 and still vanilla oceans are boring.
I'm a big fan of new sea-life. Crabs, coral, seaweed, sponge. I'd like to see a new form of underwater torch, more water structures like pirate ships, sunken ruins, icebergs and flooded caves. Maybe a desert island palm tree? Most importantly, ways to explore them all, like a diving suits or Diving Bell.
Glad to see this is still going. An idea I had was a sort of "underwater beacon" that would come in two variations.
The first (stationary) has the physics of a block. It would give off a considerable amount of light, and scare away dangerous sea creatures.
It would be crafted like so: ( Being glowstone dust )
The other version is a beacon that can be placed ON water blocks. When you right click it the beacon sinks to the bottom most block in its completely vertical descent, and if you go down to it and right click it again, it would float back up to the upmost block (usually water) that it can reach unless its blocked off. It would be crafted slightly differently:
How about an underwater maze or dungeon! I'd love to explore underwater structures with some rare air pockets! THAT would feel like exploration, not like the flat dirt floor our regular oceans have
I support the idea of adding deeper oceans and spawning more materials (kelp, sponge, coral etc.) but I'm not a fan of diving suits.. seems to technologically advanced for minecraft.. I would stick to enchantments like aqua affinity or adding a water breathing enchantment.. also we have night vision potions that would be good for underwater exploration... maybe adding some sort of bioluminescent material that randomly spawned under water would be cool..... But yeah.. I support the expansion of the ocean biome

Just a small idea
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1269151-sunken-structures/
I loved the ideas for abyssal habitats, bioluminescence, clams with pearls, and sponges.
Water habitats.
FRESHWATER
- marsh: small shallow areas, long grass growing in the water, lots of lilly pads. (possiblly add some coastally as well for salt marshes)
- lake: a deeper freshwater body with sandy bottoms (may have mashy edged).
SALTWATER
- Flats/beach: typical sandy areas, default habitat
- Rocky coast: areas with rounded, pillar like, and arch shaped formations of exposed rock in the water and coastal cliffs
- Kelp beds: forests of underwater vegetation, collectable with clippers.
- Reefs: Blocks of coral which can be mined. Maybe even add different coral types with different uses. (maybe making a golem with a brain coral head).
- Abyssal plains: As mentioned by someone else earlier. deep water mud and clay expanses. maybe with bioluminescent decorations.
- Volcanic vents: areas with smoking vents and tube worms, maybe occasionally spawning lava
DECORATIVES: items collectable with few uses.
- kelp and tubeworms: maybe have it similar to vines and climbable, not sure
- anemonies, sea fans, crinoids, sea stars, etc.
- small fish (catchable with a net)
MOBS
- Electric eels (like the eels mentioned before but with an electric attack).
- Tuna: harmless mob killable for meat
- crabs: like spiders, passive at day agressive at night. when passive they walk sideways, when agressive they walk forward.
- grouper: (bass recolor for fresh water): large slow agressive fish
- barracuda: (pike recolor for fresh water): a long fast fish, agressive
- swordfish: passive until attacked
- Shark: passive until you are injured, agressive once you take damage as blood in the water makes them hungry.
- Ender Clams: black and purple agressive clams that teleport and drop ender pearls.
- Angler fish: agressive fish with a glowing light, drops bioluminescence
- Seals: passive mob, found on shore or in water, drops meat and leather
- Whales: rare giant mobs who are passive until attacked. Drops alot of meat and bone
CRAFTING: boats and subs were mentioned by others as were underwater lamps so I will skip them.
- net: crafted from spider webs, used to catch small decorative fish.
- snorkle: crafted from bamboo and maybe a pearl, used to breathe underwater
OTHER IDEAS
if added as suggested before, sponges should spawn in a vase shape made of sponge block
How about an underwater maze or dungeon! I'd love to explore underwater structures with some rare air pockets! THAT would feel like exploration, not like the flat dirt floor our regular oceans have
