I installed optifine and I went from 75fps to about 50fps...I really want to use this for all the other stuff it gives me but it's decreasing my fps Anyone know why?
Texture packs usually add their own animated water/lava using "custom_water.png" in order to match the look of the pack.
If you want the default water enable it in "Animations -> Animated Water/Lava -> Dynamic"
This isn't always the case though, as I recently found out and as RuGuy highlights above.
Lots of people make packs to change/fix one texture, without touching animations. May I suggest tweaking the All ON / All OFF options so there's one that includes Dynamic?
Game crashes whenever I try to enter a world.
I made a clean Minecraft install, and then I applied 'OptiFine HD_B1 Ultra for Minecraft 1.3.1'.

The minecraft.jar is broken, class aux is missing. This has nothing to do with OptiFine.
Do not extract minecraft.jar to a folder when installing mods, the name "aux" is reserved in Windows and can not be created, so the file is missing when minecraft.jar is repackaged.
Hey, how can I get natural textures working on the texture packs I use? I can use them in the default pack, but when I switch to, say, faithful, I don't have them even though the option is on. Do I have to drag some of the files from Optifine into my pack's folders?
Hey, sp614x! I know you've been bombarded with questions since the release of Optifine 1.3.1, but I have a question that I hope you could at least partially solve. I play Minecraft on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and I have always used the Standard version of Optifine, because other versions caused glitchy texturing. Is there a way to make the current Ultra version act like the Standard one, or do I need to update my OpenGL drivers to fix the texturing bug? Thanks, and great work on the mod!
Chewhawka, since I too am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS you might want to try this too. I also figured out how to disable threaded optimization by creating this file:
~/.config/xserver-xgl/disable
It's just a per-user killswitch, according to the xserver-xgl devs.
I can't seem to make the mod work.... I use the MagicLauncher for easy installation of mods... and where ever i place the OptiFine in my list it says IOExeption... what do i do to fix this problem?

I got this when I tried running Minecraft. I don't know how to really allocate more memory to minecraft or anything, and I don't know how to use the mods customization options. If someone could explain I'd be greatly appreciative =/
I noticed this problem as well, but my guess is that after all the changes 1.3 did to the game, cloud render distance is now tied to terrain render distance, because if you change the render distance setting, you will notice the clouds only being rendered to the new distance as well.
I had this problem for me, but with the 1.2.5 version and this one as well I get used to it though.
This isn't always the case though, as I recently found out and as RuGuy highlights above.

A cursory inspection seems to show that worked (I thought I'd had it disabled already).

The default texture pack doesn't have graphics for water and lava animations, it generates them from code. Same for fire and portals.
