I can't get a new computer either. Just because not everyone can afford a new one doesn't mean that the entire game should be reprogrammed so that people with hardware from the early 2000's can play it.
You have to admit though.. Java isn't the best platform lol. I can run alot of games at high graphics say for example F.E.A.R 1, 2, & 3, but with Minecraft I run at like 20 frames and with 1.8 im running at 10 fps. Not saying I would like the game re-written into some other platform but It would be cool if they used a more efficient platform. One reason I like Java though, It's easy to mod.

Yeah java sucks with resources, but at least in the end it's a thousand times easier to make it cross platform seeing as the game itself works on all three major operating systems provided the native LWJGL libraries are supplied.

Exactly hit the nail on the head. I can play some modern aged games (from the last 1-2 years) at solid playable framerates (30-40) with my PC. Yet a small resolution, low bit textured java game is a snails pace. I don't blame Notch but java itself is just.. not the best platform for across multiple platforms.
Without Optifine, can I play MC? Sure. I get a "playable" framerate, but Optifine makes it a muuuuch more fluid experience and a definite fps boost. And it's not just integrated graphics that have issues either, I've seen systems running Nvida or ATI cards, with 2+ gigs of ram, multi core processors etc that have issues keeping a stable frame rate even with in-game options set to low or off.
At this point I'd PAY to have a working version of Optifine for 1.8
Look, I'm not saying people should go buy better computers, I'm saying that people who can't shouldn't feel entitled to the same things people who spend money on hardware are. I don't want all the poor people to go kill themselves or whatever, I just find the concept of "hurr durr if your fps is bad whine to mojang to make it better hurr durr," which was the poster I was originally replying to, to be rather stupid when most people who require this mod, as I stated, don't have hardware that you would generally expect to be able to run a game with.
Quit being an elitist. Your computer doesn't make you better than anyone. If a mod helps more people have access to a good game, then how is that a bad thing? At all?
So much arguing about a mod, just wait and it will come,I'm waiting for it too,so I'm still playing 1.7,though i really want to play 1.8,i tried it but it lags to much,so i just got to wait for this mod..
Also if your computer is so great and can run minecraft like nothing, why are you here? just saying.
Other than that, just wait patiently guys it will come, just play 1.7,by now you should know not to just update without a backup and/or waiting for your favorite mods to update.. :smile.gif:
For all the people saying "get a better computer" im running on a Alienware m15x i can't play minecraft 1.8 at all every 3 seconds i will get these annoying lag spikes that wreck the game for me... i can run every game on highest settings with 30 fps+ EVERY GAME except minecraft thanks to these lag spikes.......

its seem like you just need to allocate more memory to java to stop that (theres tons of tutorials just google it)

I can get one, but I just bought my computer this year and its really fast but its just minecraft that lags :sleep.gif:!
Okay.. Well I was searching how to get more frames for minecraft and tried this : and it actually worked. Withought allocating more memory to Java I was at 5-15 frames now im at 45 frames... Might work for some of you needing a quick fix.
Edit: Also on my desktop i made a new text document.. In that text put this: javaw -Xmx1200M -Xms1200M -jar "minecraft.exe" (without the colon). Then save as run minecraft.bat make sure your minecraft is on your deskstop. And you might want to have 4gb of ram. I wouldnt reccomend doing this with 1gb or lower.

You don't blame Notch even though Minecraft is so terribly inefficient -just- because of his terrible code?
There's nothing wrong with Java in a performance perspective.

Well I'm not a coder myself, I mean I've dabbled in html and php over the years (but what geek on the net hasn't, right?)
Even if Notch finely tuned MC, I still think it would run poorly compared to modern damn games. I prefer mmorpg's and when I can log in and have like 50 folks all decked out in armor and gear and items with no real huge drop in frame rate, then load a single player seed in MC and look at single digit frames, it can't solely be my pc's fault, or Notch's.
Even things that are built to use Java by default and coded well, still to this day in 2011 feel sluggish and unresponsive. Look at Runescape, yea it's not the greatest game ever but a ton of kids play it, and its all java based. Same issue occurs there for many people. When you can load up Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops and get a stable 30-40 fps with medium graphics, then load up a brand new seed in MC and get maybe, 5-10 fps? Come on.
Don't get me wrong I love MC, I bought my copy back when it was in Alpha. I just think it's unfair for some folks to blame it on our pc's fault when, it's not and we have the evidence to back it up.
thanks to this mod I went from 15 FPS on short render with default texture pack to about 25 to 50 to 60! I once got 75! And with Misa's Realistic HD(64x64) I went from about 10 FPS to 25! This mod greatly increased my performance with Minecraft. Especially since I've had this computer from 2003 lol.this mod GREATLY helped

Minecraft, for what it is, is pretty badly optimized. Of course that isn't the only issue really I mean the game by design is much different than most others. Most people, even alot of modders, don't get how Minecraft works at it's core, the world itself is very simple and low resolution and quite honestly, just barely makes your video card work at all.
Minecraft isn't necessarily limited by Java it's more limited by the world and how efficiently processes are carried out. If you think about a game like, I don't know, Crysis 2, sure it looks pretty, but there really isn't much CPU work even going on behind it(even well optimized Minecraft in C++ would probably use more CPU time than that game.) If you strip away all the shaders and fancy things your video card is doing those games don't look much different from the original half-life(although with more polygons.)

Runescape is probably one of the better examples of well coded Java games, the thing is Runescape has to deal with running in a browser, a very different environment that Java can only fight with so much. The game itself is pretty well optimized honestly(they have the money to do it.) What people don't get is if they developed Modern Warfare 2 on Java instead of C++ it'd probably only lose about 5-10% performance, and we're talking extremely experienced professional programmers, able to squeeze the last bits of power out of each language. Notch, while an experienced programmer, is really not that "good" he misses alot of very key design principles to coding and quite honestly, even if he could fix up his game and make it more efficient, Jeb is usually the only one even working on the game, so it's a moot point.
I won't go into detail about the codebase much, but, it's very messy, the game is literally slogging through tens of thousands of lines of usually pretty "slow" code and it definitely adds up in the long run.

It's called the Lag Spike Of Death, a GAME BREAKING bug that is hard, if not completely unable to be fixed, this was our only choice.
