🚨The Crumbley Case and Parental Liability New Jersey State Bar Association🚨 The Crumbley Case and Parental Liability Friday, May 3rd 12:00-1:40 ☞ Robert (Bob) Bianchi, Esq. (Former Head Morris County Prosecutor) and Robert B. Hille, Esq. (Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney) show how The Crumbley Case was a Landmark Decision in Parental Liability. The #Crumbley Case Outcome The tragic school shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan in December 2021 took a dramatic turn in February and March of 2024 with the convictions of Jennifer and James Crumbley, the parents of the teenage shooter, Ethan Crumbley. This case marks a significant precedent in holding parents legally responsible for their children's access to firearms and potential danger they pose. The Debate Continues Opponents of the Crumbley verdicts express concern that holding parents criminally responsible for their children's actions sets a dangerous precedent. They argue it's difficult to define the line between parental responsibility and criminal culpability. To officially begin the divorce process in New Jersey, your spouse must properly serve you with divorce papers. Service is usually completed by personally serving the defendant; providing a copy of the papers to the defendant’s lawyer; through registered or certified mail, return receipt requested, in addition to ordinary mail to the defendant’s last known address; or filing papers with the clerk if there is no known address despite diligently trying to locate the defendant. Attorneys Adam R. Satin and Lynn Hu were honored by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly at its annual “Leaders in the Law” event for obtaining one of the five largest verdicts of 2023. In McDonald v. Ruberg, the Satin and Hu obtained a $7.56 million verdict against a Boston Medical Center cardiologist who failed to rule out a pulmonary embolism before discharging the patient who collapsed 45 minutes later and died. As reported by MLW, Satin said, “In a complex medical case like this, we tried to emphasize the things that jurors know — before they ever set foot in the jury box — aren’t right. In this case, a woman in the hospital under the defendant’s care decided she was safe to go home and sent her home with a plan to follow up with another doctor in about a month. I said to the jury, ‘She didn’t make it a month, she didn’t make it a week, she didn’t make it a day — she didn’t even make it one hour.
