The Enclave at The Whitespring bunker used an unique sequential numbering system to date allof their entries, for both scientific discoveries and Whitespring surveillance recordings.
Breakdown[]
Instead of specific dates, the recordings use a sequential numbering system that appears to follow a Year.Month.Day naming convention, with October 23, 2077 as the point of reference (1.1.0; the 0 is because of entry 6.1.0).
The earliest recording, 1.1.2, is made after the bunker was sealed up and in the midst of purges of non-Enclave personnel. The next recording is made a few days later, marked 1.1.5, and shows the failure of external connections, with Eckhart delivering the news two days later, in recording marked 1.1.7 - which also depicts him consolidating his power and purging Enclave members not in favor of continuing the war. This allows for establishing a timeline of events related to the Enclave and can be cross-referenced with other data. It is remarkably consistent within The Whitespring bunker terminal entries and Whitespring surveillance recordings.
It is not always consistent with and the unique dating system means confusion abounds. The biggest source of the confusion is the starting point:
- For instance, after Sam Blackwell returns to Harpers Ferry following the death of Judith Blackwell, he kills an Enclave spy, which prompts Eckhart to order his death. The 6.6.1 stamp would place the order in late March 2083, matching up with the month and date from Blackwell's terminal,[1] but not the date, as Blackwell's terminal has him placing her death on February 15, 2084. Blackwell's death is subsequently referenced in entry 6.9.7, on June 30, 2083.
- The recording where Eckhart talks to Santiago is marked 6.1.0, which would place it on October 23, 2083, shortly after Eckhart rigged the AVA to make himself President and shows that transition in effect as Santiago still addresses him as Secretary. The voter services terminal entries that would display while Race for the Presidency was active show the date of the election as October 8, but 2084.
It seems that writers responsible for other parts of the game assumed that the count started at October 23, 2077 as Year 0, Month 0, Day 0 (0.0.0), rather than Year 1, Month 1, Day 0 (1.1.0), and added from there.
