Werner Heisenberg was a famous German physicist and Nobel laureate who made outstanding discoveries particularly in the field of quantum mechanics.

Background[]

Born in Würzburg, Germany in 1901, Heisenberg later went on to study physics and mathematics at university and earned his doctorate in 1923. Afterwards, he became one of the three scientists who formulated the concept of matrix mechanics, which explains how quantum leaps occur. For all his discoveries in the field of quantum mechanics, including the aforementioned idea of matrices, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for physics in 1932.

Beyond this, he continued to make many great contributions in several areas of physics, one of the most notable being his uncertainty principle.

Notes[]

Werner Heisenberg is mentioned in the Fallout universe by the Heisenberg compensation field, a technology adopted for use in all plasma rifles.

Appearances[]

Werner Heisenberg is mentioned only in Fallout: New Vegas. The technology named after him, however, is used in every plasma rifle in the Fallout world.
