Vegetable starch is a junk item in Fallout 4.

Characteristics[]

A naturally abundant nutrient carbohydrate, found chiefly in the seeds, fruits, tubers, root, and stem pith of plants, such as in corn, potatoes, wheat and rice, and varying widely in appearance according to source but commonly prepared as a white amorphous tasteless powder. Before the War, it was used to stiffen fabrics and in the manufacturing of paper. Post-War it is mainly used as a substitute for rare commercial adhesives.

Locations[]

  • Vegetable starch can be made at any cooking station.
  • Occasionally found at vendors or as loot.

Notes[]

  • Vegetable starch is one of a very few items that can be crafted entirely from settlement-made products.
  • It yields 16 XP every time it is crafted.
  • When scrapped at a workbench, it yields five adhesive.
  • Five adhesives have a nominal value of 40 caps, in contrast to the 6 caps for one unit of vegetable starch, or 83 caps for the total raw ingredients, thus it is most profitable to sell the raw components directly.
  • The exceptions to this are (1) that the vegetable starch (after scrapping) has a better value-to-weight ratio than any of the ingredients, and (2) that (as a recipe) it can be created from ingredients that are not physically present but are accessed from remote settlements via supply lines.
