I think the "mutant" bit is simply to tell readers that they're mutants.

Well, since I'm the main character and I can't die or the universe collapses, we seem to be at an impasse. Oh, I almost forgot... *whips out industrial sized food processor and shoves it on the Grapists head and hits puree. Grapists head is now juice* Now that he's out of the way... *right then a F3 glitch opens a gigantic hole right underneath you. you fall in and I watch as you tumble into the abyss and disappear into the darkness. the hole closes.* Well that was convienient.
