One of my first real encounters in Fallout 3 (aside from a handful of mole rats, radscorpians and the raiders in Springvale elementary) was the Super Mutant Behemoth by the Jury St. Metro. I'd randomly headed off in that direction almost immediately after exiting Vault 101. After the encounter (it took me countless reloads) I then believed that these wonderful monsters were indeed random encounters out in the Wastes. For the next 72 or so game hours I would only sneak in the middle of the night when outside for fear that another one would pick up my scent and hunt me down.
Even though there only turned out to be 5 of them in the entire game in fixed locations, that's when I fell in love with Fallout 3.
