Pretty sure he isn't an android. Any confirmation on that? Elko 09:10, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

IE: References to him being an android should be removed, imo, unless it can be reasonably confirmed that he is, in fact, an android. Elko 09:12, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

If you tell him that Harkness is the android, then you kill him, he has an android component, as does his confirmed android bodyguard Armitage. Zimmer, if he was human, should not have the component, as I did not give him one. I'm pretty sure that Zimmer is an android.

The whole 'Replicated Man' mission is clearly strongly influenced by Blade Runner. In that film an unfilmed scene was to reveal that Tyrell, the Replicants' creator, was actually a Replicant himself. I admit this proves nothing in reference to Fallout but it's so much cooler if you can infer that Zimmer himself may not be real; it makes the whole mission that much better- maybe all of the Institute's population are androids (or maybe they aren't). Anyway the article only says it's a possibility- and it is. This is fiction, and fiction is dependent upon interpretation; that's half the fun.--92.41.198.64 21:24, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

In this wiki article, I think the reference to the "Water Man" musical is a bit of a stretch. The phrase "right here in Rivet City" is generic and the implied reference doesn't follow the spirit/significance of other references. Unless proven otherwise by a reputable source, I suggest we remove that the Water Man musical reference. --Ayumix 20:35, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried following Dr. Zimmer after he leaves Rivet City to see where he goes/what he does? Also, there are two reasons for an android component on Zimmer, since he builds androids, maybe within the Commonwealth the android version of Harkness was considered faulty because of his beliefs. In order to fix that, switch the android component. The second reason would be Zimmer is an android. ````MainMeister

You do realize the paradox that would exist if, the very person hunting for an android hunter, were an android hunter himself? All unbeknownst to him, in the meanwhile trying to justify that an android can't be human, even though he believes he is human and that the android he seeks is delusional for being in the very same state.Aryeonos 08:28, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

That's not a paradox. That's called irony. 24.80.166.34 11:44, December 27, 2009 (UTC)

If someone killed you after getting the component and looted you, you would have it on your persons, does that make your own character an android? No. Having the component is just having it. Miumaru 18:14, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

The odd thing is that one comes from the android, Zimmer has one, and Zimmer's bodyguard has one. That's a pretty even distribution for something that's just being "carried." Wunengzi 00:42, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

The Fallout 3 Official Game Guide GOTY hints and him being a Android at the end of the quest's guide. Tip: "Did you open fire on Zimmer, Armitage, Victoria Watts or Pinkerton and Killed them? Then search their bodies. You might find more then just flesh and bone these corpses...." I think all 4 of those NPC including Harkness are androids. --Zkooma 04:28, August 23, 2011 (UTC)

Given that he only drops the Android component on death and it can't be pick-pocketed and now knowing the behavior of Synth component in Fallout 4 given the above it seems reasonable to conclude that he, himself was a synth. Especially since The Institute is known to replace humans and to send Synths to the outside. --Tyler Szabo (talk) 07:04, January 18, 2016 (UTC)

Location[]

What after all the scientists leave for Project Purity? After that, he isn't in the science lab anymore. Anyone have an idea? Mislaav 15:15, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Look in his room, or around it, it's on the upper deck down the hall from the Weatherly Hotel lobby.Aryeonos 08:30, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

Commonwealth[]

After he takes Harkness away, and "goes to the Commonwealth", where exactly does he go? Has anyone tried following him?24.13.83.165 21:38, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Dr. Zimmer's Voice[]

I don't know if it's the right place to ask, but maybe some of you know who has voiced Dr. Zimmer? I can't seem to find any info on the web. 83.4.84.65 20:58, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

This is a really small detail, but I felt like sharing... If you ask Zimmer about the Commonwealth, in the beginning of the second dialogue bit, he totally says the "Intitute" instead of Institute. Just a small error on the voice actor's part. --Jasper Kazai (talk) 05:12, July 28, 2013 (UTC)

That is pretty interesting, and I'll have to go back and talk to him in-game to hear that for myself. Regardless, it wouldn't be included in the article. Thanks for sharing. :) ~ Toci ~ Go ahead, make my day. 05:29, July 28, 2013 (UTC)

Its all relative[]

I can't understand why helping Zimmer gives bad karma. For crying out loud, Harkness is an android, not a cyborg. It means he has no human or animal part whatsoever. Just think about it, if your toaster decided to live its own life and fly off, you'd want it back and fixed too right, its the same with Harkness (you get the point).

true, but maybe that toaster can make beautiful music, would I, in conscious witness to that spontaneous human like creativity, seek to remove that rare splendor from the earth?Aryeonos 08:25, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

If you were extremely hungry you might? JackMcFist 02:29, November 26, 2009 (UTC)

Because the toaster doesn't have emotions or self-determination. Harkness, however, does. A human is little more than a machine with a highly advanced computer to run it. A computer that can feel and learn and make independant decisions. Even so, an organic mind can be wiped, altered, reprogrammed, etc. Just like a synthetic one.

Turing test time.....and Harkness would definitely have passed one of those. Wunengzi 23:44, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

The Institute[]

This page says that the Institute is probably the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, while the Institute's page says that it definitely is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This discrepancy should be fixed.

Minsky[]

Does he look like Marvin Minsky of MIT? --178.213.243.99 18:02, November 26, 2015 (UTC)

Zimmer is dead right?[]

So we know that Dr. Zimmer had left the Institute to find A3-21 in 2277. By the time of Fallout 4 he is still gone, as in "no one has seen him since he left 10 years ago", not "he left on another mission". So can't we assume he was killed, either by the Lone Wanderer or A3-21 himself? If you follow the Railroad's advice and give Zimmer the synth component, he leaves convinced A3-21 is dead/destroyed and returns to the Institute. If you follow Zimmer's plan, you find A3-21 and Zimmer resets him and returns to the Institute with A3-21. The only other option is the Lone Wanderer discovers Harkness is A3-21 and returns his memories to him, at which point Harkness kills Zimmer or he lets the Lone Wanderer do it. So obviously Zimmer is dead right? If he hasn't come back in 10 years then there is no other logical conclusion. 96.247.194.40 06:07, February 8, 2016 (UTC)

Alive and well[]

>it is hinted that Zimmer has not been seen since leaving for the Capital Wasteland in 2277, 10 years prior to the events of Fallout 4

Say what? Where was that hinted? Because to me, the games hint the opposite. The Institute is scared shitless of the surface. No way they would wait more than 10 (TEN) years to tag him MIA. Infact they (Ayo and Father) behave like he is alive and well, and reclaming other synths. Now, when he reclaims or leaves A3-21 be he says clearly that he is returning to the Institute, so the synths he is hunting down by 2287 are new targets. This is not speculation, it's right there in the games. I'm not sayin we should tag him as still alive (the other reclamations could have killed him afterall, and he is very old), but do not force your personal speculations like that. Write "status unknown" if you don't like the fact that he is probably still alive--Damx (talk) 17:00, May 20, 2017 (UTC)
