Hey doods. Let's start by confirming that the message appears in hardcore mode as well. I also suspect that the canteen's sole function is to periodically reduce dehydration in hardcore... But, I'm sure its purpose will be clear to any who actually pay attention when it pings. :)

Removed stub - need verification on consoles[]

OK, I edited this pretty heavily and it seems rather complete now, although it might could use some links to other wiki entries (for hardcore mode, H2O/dehydration, etc.)

It would also be great if someone could verify all this on the consoles, since I'm on a PC.

I can vouch for it working on PS3. Each "sip" seems to be about half the thirst reduction of a purified or dirty water. I have seen it take effect with my thirst as low as 80 and as high as 190 but I haven't tested how effective it is over that.

We should verify whether it is on a timer or relates to the current thirst status. I would think it would be most helpful if it would kick in no matter where the thirst meter is, within reason (unnecessary at < 60). It wouldn't make much sense for the courier to STOP drinking from his/her canteen when s/he is so dehydrated it negatively affects his/her state of mind.

I just noticed something strange: apparently you can't get this using console commands! just thought it's worth noting.

THIS is NOT truth. I just added it back by console after losing it somewhere. You just propably forgot to type "1" after the console command. "player.additem 001735d2 1" will do just fine. Rencol --83.208.101.226 10:24, September 22, 2011 (UTC)

before you call somebody a liar you should try it with the dlc code uninstantiated. you can get it cause you've got it anyway.

Is there some way to put the info that this is not a standard item in the game higher up on the page? 99.35.220.92 03:02, September 18, 2011 (UTC)

Is it every five minutes game time or every five minutes real time? --ZappaFan 15:25, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
