How to Start Quest[]

I believe this quest can only be started if you complete Diamond City Blues by killing Henry Cooke. Am I right? As I understand it, any confrontation with the drug dealers where Cooke is still alive results in a fight breaking out (even if you pass the speech checks) and I think Nelson Latimer will then be killed, making this quest unobtainable. Can anyone confirm this? I have never been able to obtain this quest and I'm on my third playthrough, but I've also never murdered Cooke. -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 20:30, January 25, 2016 (UTC)

It is also possible this quest may be obtainable if you haven't yet met Malcolm Latimer or failed the speech check when he asks about his son's death. All I can say for sure is this quest doesn't seem to appear if Nelson died and you convinced Malcolm you aren't responsible. -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 20:34, January 25, 2016 (UTC)

I started Diamond City Blues this playthrough by leaving Cooke alive, attacking the smugglers (during which fight Nelson Latimer died), and leaving Trish alive (afterwards she killed Cooke in a firefight). So the end result was both Nelson Latimer and Henry Cooke dead. Darcy Pembroke will not say anything to me other than trite sayings, so no quest for me. The other thing is that before looking for Darcy I visited Marowski and he laid the 2000 cap quest on me, so maybe that affects this as well. --DocSilence (talk) 03:39, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

I cant start this quest, it must be becouse i let alive the barman —Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.213.68.142 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Darcy is acting the same way in my current playthrough as DocSilence said. Except Cooke lived in mine and Trish died. But as Doc said, Cooke wasn't killed by the player. I still think that may be the key to obtaining this quest. Bypassing the confrontation with the smugglers seems to be the only way this quest will start for some reason. At least that's my experience so far. I'm not convinced enough to put it in the article. -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 15:02, February 6, 2016 (UTC)

On this third attempt to get the quest started I made sure I met all the conditions mentioned in this article. Paul Pembroke died in the fight. After three days Darcy did approach me asking about his death. I went through all conversations with her except telling her Paul was dead (as the article says to do). The article says you must tell her you will help with the investigation, but this conversation option never appears. I then waited over three days, fast traveled from and to Diamond City, but Darcy keeps asking about Paul's death. So there must be another factor not mentioned in the article that is required. FYI, both Trish and Malcolm survived (though they had died in previous playthroughs where this quest would also not trigger). Obviously we are missing some other factor here since following the instructions in the article to the letter does not work. Speaking to Marowski or not made no difference BTW. -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 21:04, April 24, 2016 (UTC)

Got it! Turns out the article was wrong. You do need to tell her Paul is dead, but you need to do so as politely as possible. Then give her time to mourn (a week works well). -- DeJuanNOnley (talk) 21:41, April 24, 2016 (UTC)

the quests..[]

Malcolm talks to me accusing in killing Latimer, If I blame Paul he asks me to kill him for 200/300 caps (misc quest) (although it seems like I've got 400+300 o_O) or I can blame Marowski for 400/600 caps (misc quest). idk if killing Paul or Marowski would then trigger Darcy's quest, sneak-killing him (without any quest to kill him) and then talking to Darcy doesn't seem to trigger it. (Not to mention that Darcy sits all the time in the bar drinking right next to Cooke's body..) Also idk if choosing to kill Marowsky would allow the photo quest.

UPD: waiting for 24 hours after completing 'Kill Pembroke' - Darsy walks up and asks about him, but no photos are given. Maybe completing the DC Blues is a strict requirement?

Journal entries[]

When the quest started with Darcy giving the picture i suggested the option "Show Marowski?" which immediately gave me an entry like any other quest - but no "description". HomerDOHSimpson (talk) 21:00, November 10, 2017 (UTC)

There's a bug in the objective of stage 100[]

The optional part "Talk to Henry Cooke about photo" of the first objective normally cannot be done, although there is a dialogue with Cooke in the game files, where he offers 300/500 caps for the photo.
Darcy won't find the photo until Paul is dead AND either Cooke is dead or the ambush is completed.
After the ambush, Cooke (if he survived) leaves the city and gets disabled on unload before the Player gets the photo.
The only way to get the unused dialogue with Cooke is by start this quest before the ambush via console (Resetquest 457c6; SetStage 457c6 100; player.additem 0008a1fb 1).
