Somah-100-Repair

Somah with 100 repair skill

she's a bitch. charging for my goddamn repairs. i could just as easily use the 500 epoxies found, she's repairing my stuff that i killed all of the aliens that are trying to kill her with, its the least she could do to repair my shit for free, at least until the end of the mission.

She could have charged double, triple, quadruple for the repairs and I wouldn't have cared. 100% is too good to pass up. Especially when you can easily get the caps back at the end of the mission. --Carpathian Cookie 13:24, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Indeed,i managed to get my beloved gauss rifle back up to 100%.But i don't givve a shit about cost, the money i've acquired through random Rp'ing and scouting is enough to repair 50 Broken t5-1b's The Second Wolf Brother. 13:30, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Wierd. On mine she has 95 repair skill. I want my microsoft points back!--Cheesytom 14:51, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

If you're that bothered about the caps just kill her before you exit the ship and get all your money off her corpse. No Karma and no one cares. She dissapears once you exit i think so you loose her anyway.Rouge_sheep

On my game it was 100 at one part of the add-on, then later it dropped to 75... I'm not entirely sure why that would be though... -Silent

if this bug occurs, simply load up a previous save where she had +100 repair skill, confirm she still does in fact still have +100 repair skill, then load up your most recent game and she should have +100 repair skill again. Chianti 10:49, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

G4 TV confirmed that her repair should be at 100, in their review of MZ. The article is on the Vault's front page, in the news. Nitty 06:06, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

It's always been 100 for me. God she took like half my caps in reapair!--Valoopy

Well, maybe we should go about it a bit more systematically. All I can say so far is that in the PC version her base repair skill is 75 in the GECK. I'm currently not able to say whether that is changed at some point since I don't have the time to wade through all the scripts which involve Somah. Maybe it's simply a system difference, so everybody should please list the following: system, starting repair skill (when she first offers it), repair skill at end of MZ.
For me that'd be: PC, 75, 75. -- Porter21 (talk) 13:34, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Xbox, 75, 75. Me and Chianti are going to delete and re-install MZ, run it again and try some stuff out. I'll report what we find.--DashMan54 13:44, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Clearly this is a bug, there is no denying that. Whether the bug is her ever having +100 in the first place, or gaining +100 through other means is yet to be determined. The logic I'm employing, and further testing with Dashman54, is that somehow she gains repair knowledge while running the Robot Assembly area with you. Her dialogue during this section seems to indicate she will be scavenging for parts, and she is further seen 'tinkering' with odds and ends, including the initial transporter when you first begin the area with her. Perhaps all this experience and scavanging raises her skill to +100. I uploaded the picture seen above to demonstrate to those disbelievers that she does in fact have the capacity to repair at +100. Chianti 10:45, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

I haven't investigated the glitch but there doesn't seem to be any connection with the Robot Assembly area. In my playthrough, her repair skill jumped from 75 to 100 before we even got that far. Later it was back to 75 but I'm not sure if it dropped on its own or because I loaded a save from before the increase. --68.127.165.248 22:45, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Since it's a glitch, there's no guilt in using the console to fix it. Just enter these commands: prid xx000988 (with the xx replaced, obviously) forceav repair 100 That should set her Repair to 100. --75.66.179.134 03:48, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

I played with a level 20 character with 100 repair skill, she had 75 repair skill. When I got to lvl 21 she had 100 repair skill. It's probably a way to promote Broken Steel and it's raised level cap...--87.52.71.146 14:44, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Level 30 character, all other DLCs installed but not completed, all skills maxed, and I never asked her to repair gear until I got into Engineering. Didn't even know I could until then. She was at 75% and stayed there. Should we add this to the official list of bugs? Aristatide (talk) 03:55, April 10, 2013 (UTC)

What about the Mysterious Stranger dialog option?

Cell Mates?[]

Anyone find it odd that the Wanderer and Somah were placed in the same holding cell? Maybe the aliens were hoping to observe some "amorous" behavior... --DashMan54 13:20, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Indeed, random culture shows alien's as being curious. But what about the PC Being female? The Second Wolf Brother. 13:22, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Maybe aliens are into it as much as we are?? lol Or maybe they're just a lil' confused as to how our dangley-parts work. --DashMan54 13:24, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
They've been watching us long enough to have acquired a few..tastes. --Carpathian Cookie 13:25, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
For all we know they probably wanted to see something that wasn't old, wrinkled and covered in shite (C'mon, those probes musta had a mess) The Second Wolf Brother. 13:26, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
The probes certainly set the mood...--DashMan54 13:32, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Indeed, the humans probably like having weird things shoved up their arsehole. The Second Wolf Brother. 13:39, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, I actually meant for the aliens, but whatever floats your boat.--DashMan54 14:01, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
The alien's do get sexual contact,in the form of a disintegrator round. The Second Wolf Brother. 14:07, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Do the aliens anal probe brahmin? Why would they want to anal probe us anyway? Purvet Alien? The Man on the Cheesy Moon 11:48, 5 August 20009 (UTC)
Turns out they're not actually probing the humans, they're actually engraving "Mike wuz here" in Alienese on the inside of their colons. That way, if the human's ever abducted again, the other aliens will know the score...--DashMan54 19:58, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Well i think the aliens might be the ones interested in "getting busy" with people and the prboes are to see if their ...um 'things' could fit..

Voice actor.[]

For some reason, her voice actor reminds me of Bubbie from The Misadventures of flapjack. Is it really her? Prinny God 22:51, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Holy shit, it does!--Doop. 00:56, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Sorta, most notably when she talks to Sally when in sandbox mode. Nitty 02:52, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Now that you mention, i knew i recognized her voice! Is she gonna tell me when im kicked out?--Valoopy

It's her ufo now! and also You don't tell Somah when Somah kicks you out, Somah tells you when Somah kicks you out!! Prinny God 22:51, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

For some reason her voice sounds like Wanda sykes but I dunno 71.94.63.105 01:11, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Nah, wanda has a very different tone when she speaks...it's more nasally. Prinny God 22:50, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

She sounds like Whoopi Goldberg to me.--Darth Dan 012 16:43, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Pretty sure it's Jenifer Lewis (Lucille in the movie Mystery Men. I half expected her to say, "Do NOT encourage your father!")--98.142.45.80 00:14, February 7, 2019 (UTC)

I dunno, she sounds more to me like Linda Canyon. She did the female dark elves in Morrowind and pretty much all the elf females in Oblivion. [1] Noobyorkcity (talk) 05:22, August 14, 2013 (UTC)

Location After Mothership Zeta[]

Well I haven't checked, but if anyone ever finds out if she can be found somewhere else than Zeta, please tell us. Perhaps she can be found at Paradise Falls, due to her being a slaver? Or atleast there's possibility for her being a slaver.--87.52.71.146 14:35, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

She gets disabled by the game without ever leaving the bridge and completely disappears along with Paulson, but I can't edit their pages to add the info. Presumably, they're meant to have left the ship. --68.127.165.248 22:29, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

This is exactly what happens. Somah's RefID is 0a000988. If you use the console to player.moveto that RefID, it takes you back to the bridge of the ship. You can use "prid 0a000988" and then "enable" to make her visible again. She still runs her dialog from after the bridge battle, and disappears again after you leave. The same is true of Paulson (RefID 0a003304). Somah will repair once enabled -- but if you're going to use the console to do this, you might as well just set your item status to 100% with the console. :)

Technically, it is theoretically possible that a script elsewhere could move her to a new location, but I doubt it. The dialog implies she is gone for good. Personally, I was hoping she would take Friday's place in the Pitt after you sided with the slaves. DreadPirateMurphy 03:13, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Free repairs, any amount, any time (before she disappears, of course)[]

  • Talk to Somah and have her repair your stuff.
  • End the conversation and go [hidden] (easy with Chinese Stealth Armor).
  • Hit her once with the Electro-Suppressor, she will be knocked down (guaranteed sneak critical).
  • While she is laying down, rob her - getting your caps back. After she stands up, she will still be friendly.

This process can be repeated infinitely. I repaired all the loot from the ship (drone cannons, alien atomizers, ...) this way to 100%, increasing its value by roughly 100k caps. --Lje 06:38, September 18, 2009 (UTC)

Mysterious Stranger dialogue?!?!?!?[]

Can someone provide a script (or gist!) of the Mysterious Stranger dialog option?!?!!? I always thought he was mystical or something, showing up underwater the way he does! Does Somah actually know of him!?!?!?

I second that. The Lone Wanderer says something like, "If we're lucky, a friend of mine might come and help us out." I'll see if I can go back to a previous save and transcribe it. Neenish Tart 10:50, October 11, 2009 (UTC)
Has anyone ever seen the stranger show up while using vats to fight Somah in the cell?
Yes, this dialog appears along with the note [Mysterious Stranger], requiring the perk to access it. Also, if he appeared during Somah's "fight", she would most likely be killed by him and you would be stuck. - Redmess (talk) 15:01, July 22, 2012 (UTC)
Well the Lone Wanderer mentions him showing up to help against the aliens, not against Somah. Also no, but he has showed up after using that dialogue option while fist-fighting the aliens that enter your cell. TheShotgunShogun (talk) 05:53, July 28, 2012 (UTC)

Is she evil?[]

Somah's apparently in cahoots with the Slavers; has anyone tried killing her to see if she drops a finger? This would lend further weight to the whole she's-a-slaver thing, IMO. Neenish Tart 10:52, October 11, 2009 (UTC)

Somah does not drop any finger/ear, I had to kill her to get back all the caps she charged me. PS3 confirmed

Is Somah a Ghost?[]

I don't know if it's just a bug or what, but after i had Somah repair all my gear, i used a cryo grenade on her immediately afterwards to pickpocket my caps back (along with her ammo) and ever since then i can't pickpocket her instead i enter dialogue with her, i can't even attack her (i wasted like 9 cryo grenades trying to freeze her) i even tried shooting her point blank with the alien disintegrator, and yet nothing happened, no damage, it didn't go through her, and she didn't even react to it... so is she set to "ghost" like mayor maccready after a bit into the quest line or what? p.s. i'm on the "among the stars" quest if that's relevant... Geomexis 11:09, October 27, 2009 (UTC)

Could be a bug. If it's reproducable, go ahead and post it on the article page and add {{verify|~~~~~}} at the end of the entry. If it is not reproducable, it is most likely a one-time glitch and not noteworthy.--Gothemasticator 20:39, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
No ghost, she can die, at least during the battle on the bridge. - Redmess (talk) 15:02, July 22, 2012 (UTC)

Mysterious Stranger Dialogue[]

Player: "If we're lucky, a friend of mine might show up to help."

Somah: "Uhh... Okay... So, does that mean you're in?"

80.197.132.254 16:37, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

Other interactions?[]

The following really seems more like strategy than interaction of the NPC with the player (per FW:LAYC), so I moved it here for discussion.

  • In the Engineering Core, once she is able to repair items, you can throw cryo grenades at her and she will freeze, allowing you to pickpocket the caps that you gave her for repairing your items. This makes looting the ship of weapons much more profitable, as you can have many 100% weapons without having a repair skill of 100. Elliot will make cryo grenades for you; she does not become hostile if you throw one at her or pickpocket her. The Paralyzing Palm perk can be used in a similar manner.

Anyone else care to opine? Thanks! — UncleBubba T @ C ) 20:18, October 16, 2011 (UTC)

Sounds like strategy to me. Go ahead an remove it. Either way, it will stay here on the talk page, so it's not exactly lost information. --Kastera (talk) 02:41, October 17, 2011 (UTC)

Voice actor (redux)[]

I know there's already a discussion, but it had been archived before I could add my two cents.

I'm pretty sure (although not 100%) that Somah is voiced by Linda Kenyon (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1200656/) (aka the female elves in Oblivion (and the Female Dumners in Morrowind)). The idea came to me while playing Oblivion after going through Mothership Zeta.

Bethesda is known to hire local actors to do the voice acting and Kenyon has been hired more than once by them, so it's a possibility. POLE7645 02:57, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
