Notes on ripper[]

When wearing chinese stealth armor, or stealth boy, you remain virtually undetectable to the enemy despite the obvious noise of the weapon.

The weapon itself although declines in condition quickly, is seriously overpowered when it comes to feral ghouls, super mutant overloards, and other high end enemies, defeating them in a matter of seconds with sustained use.(haven't tested on Albino Radscorpions) so a good strategy would be to save up the ripper (Jack) for when faced with Greater enemies.--75.61.64.118 22:08, November 14, 2009 (UTC)

That only applies to Jack, to which this article does not refer. For some reason, nobody has seen fit to include actual stats on the Ripper from any of the Fallout games in which it appears. In Fallout 3, the standard Ripper is a rather non-exceptional weapon since it has a crit multiplier of 0x and is incapable of causing sneak criticals, precluding it from getting 30+ critical hit checks per second as Jack does. It takes a long time to kill standard enemies such as ghouls, radscorpions, mirelurks, and so forth when using this weapon despite the fact that it will degrade fairly quickly with use.76.123.120.56 19:50, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

Trivia[]

  • Considering the rather simple "chainsaw in sword form" design, as well as chainsaws being used in various movies and video games (example: Lancer Assault Rifle from Gears of War and Gears of War 2, which features a chain saw bayonet), usually for the bare reason of the devastating destructive power they hold (in combination with the inevitable mess they cause on living objects, as depicted in many movies of the horror and splatter genres), and so acquiring a rather unsettling popularity as a weapon, it can only slightly considered a nod, if at all.
  • Unless the Fallout (1997) programmers could time travel -- Gears of War (2006) couldn't possibly have influenced the Ripper. However, movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) and games like Warhammer 40K (1987) could very well have been the prime source of influence. Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 21:05, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
  • it's fun to argue on a wiki.
Jesus... For a moment there I thought I was in the forum. Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 21:08, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

It might have been or it might not have been so why mention it at all?

Bugs[]

I've encountered a bug where i'll be roaming the capital wasteland, and randomly start hearing a ripper. This will go on for a while and will sometimes persist after fast traveling. yesterday, the sound came on when i killed a Robobrain with a comabat knife. everytime i hear this, noone is around with a ripper. so could this be another bug? It's listed in the bugs section of the proper page. --Kris User Hola 16:04, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
